We purchased this vehicle used from Thompson Chrysler 4 years ago. At the time, it had 67,000 miles. It now has 120,000 mile and is now an extra car. The paint is not the greatest with a few stains from acid rain and a number of small scratches and a few minor dings, all of which did not show up in the pictures. Mechanically, the car should be sound. It has a new headlight/turn signal switch, new outer tie rods, rear suspension parts, front end alignment was just done, new brakes, and just passed Maryland State inspection. Given all the new parts, this car should be pretty reliable transportation for its next owner. We still owe some money to the bank on this vehicle and it will take approximately 10 days to get a lien release to you after paying off this car. This car still has a high book value of $5700 given the mileage and condition. The reserve is considerably less than that.

Fri, 25 Apr 2014It's fascinating the way that one change to a complex system can have all sorts of unintended consequences. For instance, there are hundreds of new Chrysler Town and County and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built in Windsor, Ontario, sitting in lots on the Detroit waterfront because of the energy boom in the Bakken oil field in the northern US and parts of Canada.
The huge amount of crude oil coming from these sites mostly use freight trains for transport, and that supply boom has resulted in a shortage of railcars to carry other goods. According to The Windsor Star, North American crude oil transport by train has gone from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 434,032 carloads in 2013. Making matters worse, some North American rail infrastructure is still damaged because of this year's harsh winter, and that's slowing things down even further.
Chrysler admits to The Star that it has had some delivery delays due to the freight train shortage. In the meantime, it's using more trucks to deliver its vehicles. Trucking is a far less economical solution, partially because a train can carry so many more units at one time, but alternatives are slim. The Windsor plant alone has a deal for 33 trucks to distribute the minivans around Canada and the Midwestern US.

The stalwart duo of Chrysler minivans will be reduced by half in the vehicle's next generation, with the Dodge Grand Caravan likely going away in favor of a new people-mover-type vehicle. And while the reworked Chrysler Town & Country shouldn't radically shake up the usual minivan formula, a new report from Automotive News suggests that some new technologies and thoughtful updates are in the cards for our Canadian-built van.
