Up for auction we have a beautiful 1971 Chrysler Town & Country Station Wagon. This car currently has 77,614 original miles and is powered by the optional 440 c.i. V-8 also original to the car. Options include A.C., power windows, split bench seat with power 6-way on the drivers side and reclining back rest on the passenger side, remote drivers side mirror as well as a manual passenger side mirror and front disc brakes. Car also has the 3rd seat in the rear making this a 9 passenger model. This car is essentially a survivor with mostly original paint , nice chrome and a beautiful original interior without a rip or tear to be found. The only rust to be found is a small spot on the inside edge of the spare tire well (seePhoto). I purchased this car a little over a year ago after a lengthy search since my parents had an identical Town & Country when I was a child and have put over 3000 miles on it since that time. This car runs fantastic and has to be one of the most comfortable cars I have driven, in fact I was invited to the Hemmings Concours in Saratoga N.Y. last fall where the car was voted “Best Car to Drive to California” by the Hemmings staff. The tires are almost new as well as the exhaust system and I recently replaced the brake master cylinder, power steering pump and rear wheel cylinders. The power windows including the tailgate window all work flawlessly as does the power seat. Items that do not work include the A.C., it’s 100% complete with the belt on the compressor, I just never got the chance to try and figure it out and frankly It never bothered me. The gas guage also doesn’t work, again not that big a deal since the car has a re-setable trip odometer and I would set to zero at every fill up, also the AM radio doesn’t work, but I have a spare original radio that goes with the car, I much rather listen to the rumble of the 440, that’s music to my ears! You can see this car was not ordered with the optional roof rack, I was fortunate to find an original and correct rack for this car in very nice shape and have already had the stainless portions of the rack polished. I also found a set of the optional grab handles that are mounted on either side of the tailgate window that help when entering the third seat. Both the grab handles including the shorter stainless trim pieces (also polished) required for the conversion and the luggage rack are included with the purchase of the car and yes all the necessary mounting hardware is also included. While I consider this car to be in excellent condition, it does have it’s share of little touch ups and minor scratches, there is also some minor damage to the right rear door(see photo). My reason for selling is simple, while this car is on my top 5 list, my number 2 choice became available and I simply cannot keep both cars. I am happy to show this car by appointment, I can be reached at 203-219-2962. Connecticut does not issue titles for older cars anymore so this car will be sold with a bill of sale only. |

Chrysler called out over lackluster Ram Runner by racer who helped develop it
Fri, 11 Apr 2014Fans of off-roading and desert blasting might recall that Chrysler offers an aftermarket conversion that can turn a Ram 1500 into a road-legal desert racer, called the Ram Runner. The kit, sold through Mopar, includes some significant suspension upgrades, body tweaks and a brawnier cat-back exhaust for the truck's 5.7-liter V8.
Considering all of this, comparisons with the almighty Ford F-150 SVT Raptor are common. Among the off-road community, that makes these two a sort of Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang for people that prefer driving on dirt. In the Race-Dezert forum, the discussion as to which truck was better was proceeding as normal - Ram fans said their piece and Ford fans said theirs. Then, a man named Kent Kroeker offered up his two cents.
See, Kroeker is a Baja racer, and the man that helped develop the Ram Runner. Despite his association with the truck, though, he had some less than kind words for Chrysler and the Ram Runner.
Pickup prices rising at 2x industry average
Tue, 11 Jun 2013We've said it before, but bears repeating: Pickup trucks are the financial engines of America's automakers. Good thing, then, that the segment is in rude health - in fact, Automotive News is suggesting that pickup truck sales are arguably healthier than they were pre-recession, even though the segment's volume is still significantly down from where it was before the bottom fell out of the US economy. That's because per-unit profits on full-size trucks are skyrocketing, outpacing the industry's average price increases by more than double since 2005. According to data from Edmunds, the average transaction price of a full-size pickup is now $39,915 - a heady increase over the $31,059 average price in 2005 - a gain of over 8 percent after inflation is factored in.
Just how important are trucks to automakers' bottom lines? Automotive News quotes a Morgan Stanley analyst as saying the Ford F-Series is responsible for 90 percent of the company's 2012 profits, and General Motors isn't far behind, with the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins chipping in about two-thirds of the automaker's earnings.
Automotive News points out that Detroit's automakers now have the money to invest in modernizing their full-size truck offerings, in part because they don't have the same overhead and legacy costs that pushed General Motors and Chrysler into bankruptcy. Certainly, the pickup segment has seen a lot of innovations as of late, including turbocharged V6s, coil-spring rear suspensions and active aero. Those improvements in important areas like fuel economy and ride comfort have given existing pickup buyers new reasons to upgrade. In addition, automakers are piling on the tech and luxury goodies, creating more and more high-content, high-profit models like the Ford F-150 King Ranch, Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn and Chevrolet Silverado High Country (shown).
Fiat talking with banks about buying rest of Chrysler
Wed, 13 Feb 2013All that stands in the way of Fiat's total ownership of Chrysler is a 41.5-percent stake currently held by the United Auto Workers healthcare trust, but according to SFGate.com, Sergio Marchionne is currently trying to raise the capital to complete the acquisition. The article says that a deal could be completed in as soon as 12 months, and the estimate for the remaining stake could cost Fiat SpA around $2.98 billion.
With a goal of completing the deal by the end of 2014, Marchionne is said to be in talks with various banks to help finance some of the deal. According to the report, the banks have indicated a need for a stronger balance sheet, controlled debt and reserve cash.
Two things that don't seem to be on the table to get the deal completed include issuing new shares to raise the capital or selling a stake in Ferrari. Fiat started with a 20 percent share of Chrysler in June 2009, and it raised its stake up to 58.5 percent in January 2012.
