Up for bid is a 1976 280z. 2 seater vehicle with 4 Speed Manual Transmission. All original - 2 owner vehicle has been meticulously cared for over its 38 years. Always garaged, no accidents with minor surface rust in a few spots. EXTERIOR: The paint has faded throughout the years. However, the body is nice and straight with a minor dent on the passenger door. I have placed a flat magnet on every inch of the body and can assure there is no bondo. The lines from the trunk, hood, doors and body are straight and match up nicely. All doors open and close with ease. INTERIOR: Nice original interior. Door panels and headliner are in good condition. The driver’s seat is ripped and worn at the seat and passenger seat has one rip. Carpet is in decent condition. All electrical works for exception of the clock (which is common to go out on these cars). ENGINE: The motor is also in original-unmolested condition. 4 Speed manual transmission. Starts up right up from cold start and idles nicely at 750 RPM. The car drives nice. This car is on non-op (no back fees) and has a clear title under my name. You will need to get the vehicle smogged if you buy it. Although the vehicle runs and idles nicely, I cannot guarantee it will pass. HIGHLIGHTS: This is an all original, California vehicle (purchased at Datsun of Fairfield), and still has the original blue license plates. I have all of its service records since day one, along with the original keys - a very rare find. What you see is what you get. This would be the perfect car for someone to restore it to original condition, or modify it to their likings. I am selling the vehicle because I do not have the time, the space or the budget to restore it. I have sold a few vehicles on EBAY in the past, hence why I have an impeccable feedback review. Datsun previews new budget sedan for Russia [w/video]
Thu, 13 Mar 2014Nobody does cars on the cheap quite like the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The former part of the equation already has its Dacia brand of cost-effective, no-frills vehicles that have become a favorite of Top Gear co-host James May, and last summer, the latter revived its Datsun nameplate for a budget brand of its own.
The reborn Datsun launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's given us our first look at an upcoming budget sedan developed specifically for the Russian market.
The as-yet unnamed vehicle (which we'll bet will incorporate the word "go" into its nameplate somehow) is set to debut on April 4, where it will launch the Datsun brand in Russia. Few details are available at this point, but the low-cost sedan was designed in Japan to offer Russian drivers "an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right and transparent price, with a competitive Total Cost of Ownership."
37K miles in a 1967 Datsun Roadster
Tue, 11 Mar 2014When we think of comfy, long-distance road cars, there are a few obvious choices. A Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Bentley Continental GT or, assuming fuel efficiency isn't paramount, a Range Rover are all good options for a road trip. But what if that road trip was 37,000 miles? Maybe something more reliable but still comfortable, then, like a Honda Accord. What about a 1967 Datsun Roadster?
As insane as it sounds, Scott Fisher is doing just that, running a Datsun 1600 Roadster across North America and racking up 13,500 miles in his first three months on the road. His total journey will see him pile over 37,000 miles on his red convertible. The car is lightly modified, but most of the work is for the sake of reliability and comfort, with a five-speed manual 'box, an upgraded radiator and electronic ignition.
Fisher's trip hasn't been all smooth, with a few typical bits of trouble. He also ran into some deer in Utah, quite literally, clipping one of the animals, which delivered quite a bit of damage to the passenger's front fender (hence the rear three-quarter view in our lead shot). Still, the car seems to be holding up well, as shown in this latest video from Petrolicious.
Malaise Era All-Stars
Fri, 17 May 2013A few weeks ago, we bid a fond happy 40th anniversary to the automotive dark ages of 1973-84 that have come to be known as "The Malaise Era" - the performance ice-age when 160 horsepower was a lot and a 0-60 time of under 10 seconds was remarkable. Like music in the 1980s, everything in automobiledom didn't suck, however. There were a few bright spots. Here are five of our favorites:
