1978 Datsun 280z 6.0 Lsx Conversion on 2040-cars

Year:1978 Mileage:1200
Location:

Denver, Colorado, United States

Denver, Colorado, United States

1978 Dastun 280Z

This car is incredible.
Stupid fast with approximately 450 brake horsepower and only 2720 pounds
VERY solid 280z, floors and rails are in great shape, except for a few jack dents.
All doors, locks, hatch and hood open and close nicely
A couple of small bubbles in the paint in front of the passenger rear wheel.
This is not a hack job conversion. Gets lots of compliments on how "clean" the swap is.

Engine is an 6.0 LY6 engine out of a 2008 Silverado 2500HD
Factory L92 heads
LS3 intake manifold from a 2010 camaro
Corvette throttle body
PSI wire harness, keeps it looking tidy under the hood
TSP 225/230 cam with hardened push rods and dual springs with titanium retainers
Tuned for the cam using HP tuners and wide band O2 sensor. Starts, idles and runs like it should.
T56 6 speed manual transmission
Z06 clutch
Taurus style fan, has not over heated on me
Full length 1-3/4" stainless steel headers
3" single exhaust with turbo style muffler
Sway bars
Eibach springs
Strut tower braces
Runs and drives great, did a ~350 mile round trip road trip a few weeks ago, no problems.
Got 25.4 mpg combined hwy/town mountain driving.
Car ran 12.5@116 mph on normal street tires at Bandimere which is 5800 above sea level
Easily a low 11 second 12X mph car at sea level with traction.

Bad:
Still has stock open diff r200 and axles, haven't given me any problems
Brakes are still stock, fine for street, not fine for going fast
Dash is cracked, aren't they all?
Paint is showing its age, it still gets compliments, but I'm picky
Heat and AC are not hooked up, will include 2500HD compressor if you can figure out how to mount it, will still need condenser, dryer and lines
There are some holes in the floorboard and wheel wells from a roll cage
No antenna for the stereo

Malaise Era All-Stars

Fri, 17 May 2013

A few weeks ago, we bid a fond happy 40th anniversary to the automotive dark ages of 1973-84 that have come to be known as "The Malaise Era" - the performance ice-age when 160 horsepower was a lot and a 0-60 time of under 10 seconds was remarkable. Like music in the 1980s, everything in automobiledom didn't suck, however. There were a few bright spots. Here are five of our favorites:

Datsun expands low-cost revival with new Mi-Do in Moscow [w/video]

Fri, 29 Aug 2014

Those who were disappointed when Datsun changed its name to Nissan over three decades ago may have been pleased to see the marque revived last year, even as a budget brand. Nissan's counterpart to its ally Renault's Dacia budget brand, Datsun has been steadily expanding its lineup of low-cost transportation for developing markets with the debut of the Go hatchback in India, the Go+ minivan in Indonesia and the On-Do sedan in Russia. And now it has returned to Moscow to reveal its fourth model, the Mi-Do.
Based closely on the On-Do sedan (which itself is based on the Lada Granta) the Mi-Do takes on a five-door hatchback bodystyle but with no more frills. It uses the same front-drive chassis with the same wheelbase as the sedan, but its chopped tail makes it a good foot and a half shorter overall. Into that compact shape, Datsun has fitted dual airbags, ABS and... well, that's about it. It's got a 1.6-liter, eight-valve inline-four kicking out a grand total of 87 horsepower to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Bare bones, this is.
While delivery of the first On-Do sedans commences next month (with the first example going to an IT specialist in Omsk), the Mi-Do is set to begin delivery early next year. Scope out the video and press release below from the Mi-Do's reveal at the Moscow Motor Show.

Datsun previews new budget sedan for Russia [w/video]

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Nobody does cars on the cheap quite like the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The former part of the equation already has its Dacia brand of cost-effective, no-frills vehicles that have become a favorite of Top Gear co-host James May, and last summer, the latter revived its Datsun nameplate for a budget brand of its own.
The reborn Datsun launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's given us our first look at an upcoming budget sedan developed specifically for the Russian market.
The as-yet unnamed vehicle (which we'll bet will incorporate the word "go" into its nameplate somehow) is set to debut on April 4, where it will launch the Datsun brand in Russia. Few details are available at this point, but the low-cost sedan was designed in Japan to offer Russian drivers "an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right and transparent price, with a competitive Total Cost of Ownership."
