THE GOOD:
• We purchased this Dark Blue Caravan (not Grand) used with ~53k miles,~ four years ago, from Bonneville & Sons in Hookset NH, where it had also been purchased new. It looked like the dealership went through it and installed new belts, rear shocks, brakes, etc. . .
• It now has ~93k miles, and it's been a reliable, trouble-free ride the entire time.
• It starts, runs, shifts, drives and stops just as it should - smooth and straight, and uses only ~one quart of oil between changes.
• It is a non-smoking car, with clean interior (no rips, tears, stains, etc.).
• Routine maintenance performed by yours truly has included oil/filter changes every ~5000 miles, tire rotations every ~10,000 miles, new front brake pads/rotors and a new battery.
• The only warranty repair was replacement of the transmission solenoid pack, performed ~two years ago by Port City Chrysler.
• The only non-warranty repair was last year's replacement of the forward oxygen sensor, which was indicated by my little OBD scan tool. (This was the ONLY time the check engine light came on during our four years of ownership.)
• The factory options on this particular SXT model include: A/C (blows cold and strong -- always has), Cruise Control, Driver/passenger zoned climate controls, Power windows, Power locks, Power mirrors, DVD player, AM/FM/CD, Alloy wheels, Second row bucket seats, Rear privacy glass, Roof rack
THE BAD (full disclosure):
• It's going to need tires (size 215/65 16); the ones on it now are worn uniformly & perfectly -- right down to the tread wear indicators.
• The passenger-side power window is nonfunctional, with the window stuck in the up (closed) position.
• The power lock on the driver side rear door works 'seasonally'; only in the cold/winter months for some reason.
• There is a crust bubble on the driver side front fender, along with some other minor nicks & scratches -- typical for a nine year old minivan.
(Regarding the reference to an 'accident' in NC reported in the vehicle history, I remember seeing this same report when we were buying the car, but I'll be damned if I can detect any related issues.)
THE UGLY:
• Nothing to speak of. . .
Price is set at $3,725. Vehicle is located at our residence in Dover, NH. Local Pickup Only - No transport. Email with questions and/or to arrange viewing. Roadkill builds crazy-cheap 1968 Dodge Charger rat rod using an old motorhome
Tue, 24 Dec 2013Certain requests for description simply cannot be fulfilled, like if someone asked you to describe Picasso's Guernica or Gilliam's Brazil. There is only one appropriate answer to such entreaties, and that is: "You just gotta see it." That's where we are with the latest episode of Roadkill, wherein Messr's Freiburger and Finnegan dig out a 1968 Dodge Charger that Freiburger acquired in exchange for a set of cylinder heads, and intend to stuff it with the big-block motor from a long-bed, three-quarter ton Dodge pickup.
Only the pickup is too nice to tear apart, and the Charger needs a whole lot more lovin' - and parts - than initially expected. Enter, stage right, the Class A Dodge Pace Arrow motorhome with a 440 big-block purchased for $1,000, and a retired Plymouth Fury from a previous episode.
What ensues over the course of the 40-minute installment is more cuttin', yankin', leakin', stallin', hammerin' and smokin' action than you've seen in a long time, and some techniques that would have made even Cooter wonder, "I'm not sure if we should do that." By the end, though, the payoff is good enough to make you think about perusing AutoTrader for a '68 Charger just to see if maybe...
Mopar rolls out new Scat Packages for Dodge Challenger, Charger and Dart
Tue, 05 Nov 2013Dodge buyers looking for that extra performance edge, take note: Mopar is bringing back the Scat Pack. Announced at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas today, the new Scat Packages will be available in three stages for the Challenger, Charger and Dart starting next spring.
Upgrades for the Charger and Challenger equipped with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine include a
new cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust, as well as a remapped ECU. Upgrade to the Scat Package 2 and you get a new camshaft, and the Scat Package 3 tosses in ported and polished heads and hi-flow headers. Upgrades for the Dart GT with the smaller 2.4-liter, four-cylinder Tigershark engine with six-speed manual transmission start with a cold-air intake, short-throw shifter and upgraded brakes. The second stage kicks in a remapped ECU and cat-back exhaust, while the Scat Package 3 for the Dart gives you even bigger brakes, an adjustable suspension and sway bars front and rear.
Dodge to resurrect Scat Pack?
Fri, 27 Sep 2013Before social media ever existed, if automotive enthusiasts wanted to be noticed or recognize other fans, they joined a car club. For Dodge muscle car lovers from 1968 through 1971, that group was known as the Scat Pack. Just like the Charger, Challenger and Dart nameplates, it looks like the Scat Pack could be getting a resurrection by Chrysler.
Automotive News is reporting that Chrysler recently renewed its trademark on the Scat Pack name, and while this is in no way a guarantee that the name will return, AN talked to Tim Kuniskis, Dodge President and CEO, who stoked the fire a little more. In the article, Kuniskis said that the name is "a very important part of our history" and added that "we like the whole idea of having a Scat Pack of cars." Scat Pack models were identified by their bumblebee stripes and helmet-wearing bumblebee logo, and the idea of a modern Scat Pack doesn't seem all that outlandish in light of recent vehicles like the Charger SRT Super Bee and the Ram 1500 Rumble Bee Concept.
What do you think, is this a cool idea, or is it just an unwelcome bit of nostalgia? Have you say in Comments.
