1969 Dodge Dart Gt on 2040-cars

I am selling my 1969 DODGE DART GT. This car has a LOT of hard to find parts/pieces that MOPAR addicts will love. It has been sitting around waiting to be worked on for about 12 years, and I’ve finally decided to put it up for sale. It was my daily driver back in high school and I drove it for about two years straight before going to college. After returning from college I made a few attempts to work on it, but never made it too far. The last project I started was the body work and paint preparation, which is why it looks so dull in the pictures today. It was a labor of love and I hate to see her go…but I would rather give her a new home then let her sit around any longer.

This car is an original GT car with all the cool extras. The dash VIN and fender tag both match as you can see in the pictures. You can email me if you want a full decode, but here are the highlights of its original stats:

LP23:
Dodge Dart,Demon
Premium (a.k.a a GT model)
2 Door Hardtop
F: 318 230HP 1-2BBL 8 CYL
9: (1969)
R6: Red Exterior Color
W1: White Int. Door Frames
C55: Bucket Seats
G33: LH Remote Racing Mirror
R11: Radio Solid State AM (2 Watts)

The car spent most of its time in a garage and it still RUNS and DRIVES today. Everything on the car works mechanically as well as the electrical. It will likely need a new water pump as it had a small leak from sitting for so many years. While prepping the car for sale I also replaced the fuel filter/line, as well as the master cylinder. You will see from the pictures the car is solid and it has a few spots that will need more work then others. The only real bad rust in on the back driver’s side quarter panel. It has been like that for a long time and never worsened from what you see in the pictures.

Listed below are the specs the car currently sits with:

Engine: 360cu/5.9-liter small block V-8. It has professionally built ported and polished cylinder heads with big valves. Adjustable rocker arms. Crane Cam hydraulic flat tappet cam shaft. Ceramic coated headers. Edelebrock valve covers. All MSD ignition. Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake. The engine as a whole only has about 40k miles on it.

Transmission: built 904 transmission with a lower first gear.

Rear end: 8 & 3/4 positraction with 325 gear ratio. See video below for positraction clinic :-)

Brakes: Four wheel drum

Wheels: It has 15” rally wheels in the front and 16” rallies in the back. All four have the center caps (no outer rings though as I never liked the look, so I always passed up buying them at swap meets)

Hood: The car comes complete with an original steel GTS hood with BOTH chrome 340-Four Barrel hood inserts! You will also notice in the pictures it has the original front hood molding. As for the hood clip holes….those were made by the previous owner of the hood….

Interior: Right now the front bucket seats have some run of the mill seat covers to make moving the car around more comfortable. Underneath are the original and tattered seats. You will need new seat foam and upholstery for both bucket seats as well as the rear. The roof was painted, but will likely need another coat before the new headliner goes in.

I replaced the original stereo with a Sony Explod brand CD player as well as some nice Sony Explod rear speakers. The fronts (also Sony Explod brand) are not installed but included with the car.

Body: The entire car was being prepped for paint the last time it was out--hence all the primer spots. The passenger side is straight and you may notice there is no upper chrome piece on either side of the car. Although the GT models came with a chrome piece along the upper body line, I removed it and welded the holes shut. They were then grinded down and smoothed out to give it a more unique look.

So back when the car was a daily driver, my dad took it for a spin and apparently a “deer”….committed suicide by ramming the drivers side of the vehicle while he was driving down the highway…..whether it was a deer or a mountain, we had some work to do at that point. The front driver’s side quarter panel was replaced with another original from the junk yard and you can see the driver’s side portion of the grill is a little jacked up from the impact. We did a little bit of body work on the driver’s side door and it’s not too bad. It has a few waves in it but nothing horrific. I tried to capture everything in the pictures, but if you would like more please feel free to ask.

As you can see from the pictures, I have a ton of extra parts/pieces that all come with the car. This list of parts includes: Four new Spectra brake pads, two matching front Sony Explod speakers, new in the box power/electric antenna, the original horns, hood insert gaskets, original radio, both license plates, battery charger, fire extinguisher, seat belts and seat belt mounts, as well as tons of original nuts/bolts that came off the car while working on it. Also included are some of the original hard to find chrome pieces. There are three “GT” pieces, one “Dart GT”, one “V-8”, and one star emblem. Everything has been packaged nicely and placed in the trunk.

As I said before, the car runs and drives just fine. It needs some work, but there is a lot of potential here. It has a lot of original parts like the chrome bumpers, grill, trunk plate etc that you can see in the pictures. Please check out these videos on YouTube of the car running & driving today.

Here is another video of the car from back in 2002. The engine, exhaust, etc, is the same in this video as it is today. When it was last at the track it ran in the high 14’s in the quarter mile, which isn’t too bad considering it was also a daily driver. Sorry in advance for all the movement. Some of it is from the person taking the original video, but I recorded this on my phone while I played the VHS tape on my television. If this doesn’t make you wanna finish the car and throw down some more rubber I don’t know what will!

eGarage interviews a couple with 65 Vipers

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

Owning multiple vehicles can be a hassle worth enjoying if you're willing to spend the time and the money required to acquire and maintain them. But when it's hard to make ends meet while underused valuable hunks of metal, plastic and rubber sit happily taking up garage space, journeys into the depths of other people's well-developed automotive obsessions will either bring you and your cars closer together, or compel you to sell them off before you become one of those fanatics. A recent video by eGarage is one of those journeys, and it's not for the faint of heart: D'Ann and Wayne Rauh own 65 Dodge and SRT Vipers in a collection of automobiles that exceeds 100.
We're not sure if the couple has developed heat-resistant calves from stepping over Viper door sills made burning-hot by side-exhaust pipes, but we wouldn't be surprised if they did. We did learn that their obsession with the no-holds-barred sports car started in 2006 with a trip to a dealership to buy just one Viper, which goes to show how innocently car obsessions can start. But the Rauhs seem to be doing just fine - perhaps better - 64 more Vipers later.
Watch the video below for the full story and to see what eGarage claims is the world's largest Viper collection.

How fracking is causing Chrysler minivans to sit on Detroit's riverfront

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

It's fascinating the way that one change to a complex system can have all sorts of unintended consequences. For instance, there are hundreds of new Chrysler Town and County and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built in Windsor, Ontario, sitting in lots on the Detroit waterfront because of the energy boom in the Bakken oil field in the northern US and parts of Canada.
The huge amount of crude oil coming from these sites mostly use freight trains for transport, and that supply boom has resulted in a shortage of railcars to carry other goods. According to The Windsor Star, North American crude oil transport by train has gone from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 434,032 carloads in 2013. Making matters worse, some North American rail infrastructure is still damaged because of this year's harsh winter, and that's slowing things down even further.
Chrysler admits to The Star that it has had some delivery delays due to the freight train shortage. In the meantime, it's using more trucks to deliver its vehicles. Trucking is a far less economical solution, partially because a train can carry so many more units at one time, but alternatives are slim. The Windsor plant alone has a deal for 33 trucks to distribute the minivans around Canada and the Midwestern US.

Dodge celebrates centennial with Charger and Challenger 100th Anniversary Editions

Tue, 19 Nov 2013

In 1914, the Dodge brothers went from being a parts supplier to a full-scale automaker, and to celebrate the centennial of this milestone, Dodge will offer special editions of the 2014 Charger and Challenger early next year. Both cars will be sold in limited numbers (although no specific number was given), and these cars will stand out thanks to unique touches like 20-inch wheels, 100th anniversary edition logos and the exclusive High Octane Red Pearl Coat paint job (shown above).
The 100th Anniversary Edition package, which runs $2,200 on the 2014 Charger and $2,500 on the 2014 Challenger, comes with red or black leather seats with a cloud print (for a denim-like look) and metal badges on the seatbacks that read "Dodge Est. 1914," while similar logos are also found on the wheel center caps and front fenders. The instrument gauges are unique to each car, with the Charger getting black gauges and the Challenger getting white gauges, and to enunciate the 100-year anniversary, both cars have red numerals on the speedometer for the 100-mile-per-hour mark.
Finishing off the 100th Anniversary Edition cars, which will be offered on V6 and R/T models, Dodge adds a flat-bottom steering wheel and embroidered floor mats as a part of the package. Scroll down for the full press release for these commemorative models.
