1998 Dodge Durango Slt on 2040-cars
Patchogue, New York, United States
This is a 1998 Dodge Durango SLT with a good running 5.2L engine. It has had the fuel injectors replaced approx 2 years ago, along with a new power steering pump and water pump. At about the same time I paid over $1200 to have the heater box pulled and the core replaced, the squirrel cage fan replaced & the AC evaporator replaced (sorry, I think that's what else was in there)-and whatever else NEEDS to be replaced when they spend 2 days of labor to do it!!! It also had O2 sensors, crankshaft sensor & a couple others replaced prior to its last inspection. I should have most if not all receipts. The body is in decent shape for a 16 year old vehicle, a few parking lot dings & a couple bubble spots in paint. The front bumper has a rust hole through it on drivers side....don't know why but it's not the 1st Durango I've seen rusted through in the same spot!!! The interior is in pretty good shape, factory AM/FM/CD/cassette with the premium sound system, rear AC, all power, 3rd row seating...the drivers seat has a tear in it & the clip to hold the power controls to the seat broke.
Now for the PROBLEM. THIS DURANGO NEEDS THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED!!!!!! Sometimes it will shift through all gears, but much of the time it stays in 1st gear. This started right after I did the AC & last inspection/repairs 2 years ago. I don't think there's any way around it. IT NEEDS A TRANSMISSION!!!! The check engine light is on & the codes are for the transmission....internal solenoids, which usually go bad when the torque converter begins to self-destruct. Other then that, it is a good looking, good running vehicle. (I am now into Jeep Cherokee XJ's & have neither the time nor the desire to do any work on this, my 4th Durango!!!!! Hence the reason I wish to sell it). I have clean, clear NYS title in hand!!! It is on south shore of Long Island, central Suffolk County. I WILL NOT ship it, YOU MUST PICK IT UP or HAVE IT TOWED!!!!! Contact me if you'd like to see it. IT IS AVAILABLE FOR SALE LOCALLY!!!! |

Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year
Tue, 22 Jan 2013Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.
Will Dodge limit 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat to 1,200 units?
Sun, 20 Jul 2014With over 700 horsepower on tap and a price tag barely over $60k, Dodge appears on paper to have a winner on its hands with the new Challenger SRT Hellcat. But if you want to get your hands on one, you may have to act quicker than this most powerful of muscle cars covers the quarter-mile.
That's because, according to our compatriots over at Edmunds, Dodge may limit production - in the first year, at least - to just 1,200 units. That would amount to barely a quarter of the Challengers that Dodge moves each month, and would also mean only one Hellcat for every two Dodge dealers in the US - which could lead to some serious contention over which stores and which customers can get their hands on the ultimate Challenger.
Reached for comment, SRT spokesman Dan Reid told Autoblog that "there is no plan to limit production of the Challenger Hellcat," echoing the words of Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis who told Edmunds: "We don't know what the market demand is." Which doesn't mean that it won't restrict production, but doesn't mean that it will, either. It just hasn't decided yet - or announced any such decision, at any rate - over what will be the final allocation strategy for what could be a game-changing muscle car. That is, at least, until new versions of the Mustang and Camaro come along in pursuit of Dodge's bragging rights...
Chrysler extending production of current Dodge Avenger, Jeep Wrangler, Grand Caravan
Wed, 24 Jul 2013Are you hesitant to pull the trigger on a brand new Dodge Avenger in hopes that a new one will be coming? Well, don't hold your breath. According to The Detroit News, Chrysler will be extending production of the current Avenger sedan through the end of 2015.
Originally, we heard that the company would kill the Avenger to better focus its midsize sedan efforts on the Chrysler 200 replacement. But then new reports stated there would indeed be an Avenger successor, and that we could see it as early as next January. This Detroit News report cites supplier sources confirming the extension of Avenger production, though Chrysler has not released an official statement on the matter.
These same suppliers say that the current Jeep Wrangler will live on through mid-2018 - that's right, another five years. The Detroit News reports that a replacement for the iconic, go-anywhere Jeep was due in mid-2016.
