The well-equipped SXT comes with a 235-horsepower, 3.5L V6 engine and six-speed automatic with AutoStick, which allows manual gear selection if desired. It has an all-wheel drive system is also this system sends most power to the front wheels except when power is needed at the back wheels for traction. Between 25 and 65 mph, some power is also sent to the rear wheels to enhance handling and stability. The versatile interior is configured so as to carry up to seven people plus cargo, or a combination thereof,  with the three-row, seven-passenger on upmarket SXT. In the third row, which is elevated slightly above the level of the first and second row, Dodge says that the Journey allows two inches more head room than its leading competitors, and the back two rows can be folded down to allow a huge cargo floor. The Journey's back doors open 90 degrees to allows easy entry and loading access, and the second-row seat has a child-seat-friendly feature that allows it to slide forward or rearward a total of 4.7 inches to bring children closer or allow more legroom for adults. Access is made even easier through the so-called Tilt 'N Slide feature on third-row models, which allows the second row to tilt upward and slide forward.A clever, optional Flip 'N Stow in-seat storage system under the front passenger seat includes a fold-down front passenger seat and has enough space to store a planner or other small items with the seat down in place, and two other in-floor bins located just behind the front seats can hold a dozen 12-ounce beverage cans out of sight. The bins have latched lids and removable liners. Third-row models feature yet another similar covered compartment behind the rearmost seats. The Journey's carlike underpinnings include a four-wheel independent suspension with a multi-link rear suspension layout for good handling and a smooth ride. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are standard across the model line, along with an electronic stability control that includes a Trailer Sway Control mode to help prevent the loss of stability while towing. Front seat-mounted side air bags are standard, along with supplemental side-curtain bags that provide head protection to all three rows.Noteworthy options include a UConnect hands-free calling system, a rechargeable flashlight, three-zone climate control,  the Parkview backup camera, and includes a navigation system,

Dodge CEO and Gas Monkey Garage dissect the 10-second Challenger Hellcat

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

So far, whenever we've seen the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with its 707-horsepower, supercharged Hellcat V8, the muscle car has been smoking its tires. Dodge is finally proving that the SRT can do more than ruin perfectly good sets of rubber, though. In it's latest video, company CEO Tim Kuniskis hands the Hellcat off to the guys from Gas Monkey Garage to show how quickly the automaker's most powerful model can make it down the drag strip.
Of course, the only fitting contender to race against Dodge's latest top muscle car is its grandpa - a Hemi-powered 1971 Challenger, in this case. Before getting to the main event, the hosts also show off some of the SRT's unique features like the blanks in the grille that feed the intercoolers. We'll go ahead and spoil that the Hellcat makes its pass in the 10-second range, and the video admits the tires on the production version would take just a touch longer to cover the quarter-mile. However, you have to watch film to see just how quick it actually goes. Scroll down to see a classic example of American muscle drag racing against its modern legacy.

NHTSA investigating power modules on Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans

Mon, 29 Sep 2014

The Center for Auto Safety is officially petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to begin scrutinizing alleged problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on about 24 Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans. The advocacy group claims that the part's failure can cause affected vehicles to stall or not start at all. NHTSA is still looking into the accusations and deciding whether a full investigation is actually warranted.
The CAS petition claims at least 70 TIPM failures, but according to NHTSA, six of the complaints are for models that don't have the modules. In 34 of the reported cases, the vehicles refused to start, and in 17 of them the engine stalled. There were also two allegations of smoke and one of a fire. However, none of these affected airbag deployment or resulted in a crash.
This petition isn't the first TIPM-related problem for Chrysler Group. A recent report in the New York Times alleged that it found 240 complaints potentially related to the issue on NHTSA's website alone. In September, the automaker also recalled 230,760 examples worldwide (188,723 in the US) of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango replace the fuel pump relay circuit inside of the TIPM-7 with one external to the unit. The original part could allegedly cause the models to stall without warning. Even earlier, the company also recalled about 80,000 examples of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro in 2007 to have the module reprogrammed.

Are you the Dodge Dart SRT4?

Tue, 08 Jan 2013

Dodge has just confirmed that it will be bringing its newest Dart variant, the Dart GT, to Detroit next week, but we're still in the dark about when we'll see a truly hotted-up SRT4 version. But now, by way of the rumormill anyway, we've got at least one proposed, potentially Dodge-based rendering to light our way.
Seen here is what would appear to be a design sketch of the SRT4 Dart. Obviously the image that has surfaced is of rather low-resolution, but there's at least some evidence to support that it may be legitimate. In the original picture, one can just make out the name Tim Doyle in the lower right corner. As it turns out, Tim Doyle's name is also watermarked on the final design image for the 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel Black & Tan, a model that was shown at SEMA in 2010.
Of course, even if this really is the work of Doyle, there's nothing to say that this image isn't one of a great many potential looks for the future SRT4. In fact, the departure of the cross-hair grille from the Dodge's nose seems like it could be a hard sell, though we do, naturally, dig the sleek hood scoop and the bulked up wheel/tire combination.
