Up for auction is my 2004 Dodge Ram. It is a 2500 ST with 4 wheel drive, automatic transmission and Cummins turbo diesel engine. I have owned the truck since I bought it new in late 2004. I have used the truck for about 50% work/50% personal use since then. I am in the process of selling my current landscape business and need to replace this truck with a small car for my new commute. Over the years I have kept up on the maintenance well and most commonly worn out stuff has been replaced at least once. The most costly being the transmission & torque converter, which was completely rebuilt and upgraded with heavy duty parts about 6000 miles ago ($4800). Documentation will be provided. The truck is overall pretty clean for being in the Northeast which I attribute to very frequent washing including the underneath. The truck does have a plow on it (8' Sno-Way 29HD with wireless controller) which was installed February 2011. We had very little snow for the rest of that winter, very little snow for winter 2011-2012, and well under average snowfall this past year so the truck has not really plowed that much snow. I will include the plow for $2000 over and above the winning bid amount. It was over $5500 and documentation will be provided.

The Ram runs perfect. It is, I believe what they call a 2004.5 model with the HO 325HP/600 engine. The engine starts and runs with no issues, no abnormal smoke and is all stock. Fuel and air filter changed yearly. Engine oil and filter changed every 3000-4000 miles with either Rotella T or more recently Delo 400. It has never had an aftermarket air filter or computer programmer in it. The exhaust is an aftermarket MBRP stainless steel system because at the time it was less expensive than factory parts. It didn't seem to change anything about the truck. It is not quiet however. Not ridiculously loud, but not quiet as stock parts would have been. The transmission, as stated above, was completely rebuilt by the best transmission specialist in our region. Heavy duty torque converter (they build them in their own separate facility), heavy duty clutches etc. I specified the use of the truck (multi use, some heavy towing) and they took it from there. It works/shifts like new and is not noticeably more abrupt shifting and seems to have about the same as stock stall speed. The transfer case was also disassembled and re-sealed, at the same time, since it had a slight leak coming from the center gasket. It also works like new. The front and rear differentials have never been apart and have no problems. The t-case, and differentials have been serviced every 30Kmi or so with Amsoil lubricants.  Front U-joints have been done a number of times and are still good. Front 4wd driveshaft was rebuilt locally at Albany Universal about a year and a half ago. Rear u-joints were just replaced over the winter. Ball joints, tie rod ends, track bar bushings etc. have all been replaced with Moog components. Front wheel bearing assemblies have been replaced with the best ones I could get. The batteries and alternator were replaced late last summer. The tires are Cooper Discoverer AT3's and were put on new over the winter along with an alignment (which was almost perfect before adjustments anyway). The tires are still in great shape with only a few thousand miles on them. They are good in the snow, but noisier in the dry weather than the previous sets of Cooper tires I have had on the truck. I also have a set of chrome stock wheels with very worn Nokian snow tires that I will include in case you want to have a set of snow or spare tires for the truck. The Patriot Blue body color is nice but there is some small dents and dings and a number of scratches. There is some bubbles showing on the bottom edge of the tailgate and a spot on the passenger door where I believe there was a rock chip. Largely the body is rust free. Part of the drivers side door was just repainted due to having a big dent in the center of it that could not be pulled out. I took specific pictures of the most important defects (top edge of tailgate, lower rear left by rear bumper, driver door ding by door handle). Inside of bed has many dings and scratches, no major damage and no rot. Rear bumper has a dented area from someone running into it while parked. Front bumper has a number of small dings/dents from using it to push race cars up the ramp into my garage when they couldn't be driven. Nothing major. The interior is in good shape. There are no holes worn into the floor covering. Few scratches in the plastic panels here and there. There is a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller installed as well as an Alpine AM/FM/CD player to replace the factory cassette deck. I would not hesitate to drive the truck anywhere, anytime. I have gotten as high as 18.12 MPG in summertime with the truck.

Notable "Bad Stuff": Front seal on engine leaks some oil. Not enough to have to add oil between oil changes, but still a nuisance. The steering box leaks some power steering fluid. Again, not enough to have to top off the fluid regularly, but a nuisance and I have had to add fluid in the reservior once. The Air Conditioning has not worked on the few almost hot days we have had this spring. Has always worked fine prior. As the pictures show, there is the common driver seat hole in the upholstery. I spoke with a local auto upholsterer and they gave a quote of $300-$325 to restore the foam and recover that section of the seat with matching fabric. The red reflector on the passenger side door panel is missing and I have no idea when it popped out. Air bag light has been on for a couple years. I have no idea why, just noticed it was on one morning when I started the truck.

Please ask any questions you have. I have pictured and described the truck the best I can. I have great feedback and have sold a number of motor vehicles and pieces of equipment on Ebay over the years. Since this is my last vehicle to sell, I am going to need payment promptly. I will store the truck for as long as the buyer needs, but I need to have payment in full within 5 days from the end of the auction. Please have your finances in order. Payment can be made with cash, or a certified check. I will not take Paypal for any amount. I will not take any trades or any other forms of payment. The title is clean and clear, and I can sign it over and express mail it to the buyer once payment is made.

On another note, I just thought of the Autocheck that Ebay provides. I have no way of viewing that, or its contents prior to listing. I will assume that the truck gets a low score, due to the fact that it has been re-registered a few times over the time I owned it. Originally, Albany Dodge made some kind of mistake with the registration or titling process and had to re-do all of that paperwork thru the Department of Motor Vehicles. Another instance I did re-title the truck from my name, into my landscape business for insurance purposes. All of the time the truck was kept at my home address and was driven by me for probably 116K of the miles that are currently on the truck. It was not driven by employees or kids or anyone else. The truck has never been in any accidents or anything like that. Never flooded, wrecked, in a fire, stolen, totalled or anything like that.  One time I did report an incident to a local police officer where I came out of traffic court from paying a DOT ticket and someone had parked there minivan right into the drawbar inserted into the trailer hitch. They didn't even back up. Of all places to run into a guys truck...  The truck obviously had no damage thanks to me never taking the drawbar out of the hitch receiver. I thought about just leaving but didn't want to let the minivan driver get away with driving like an A-hole, so I went back in and let one of the officers write it up. Thought I would disclose all of that in case it shows up on the Autocheck.

Chrysler recalling 780k minivans over fire risk

Fri, 09 May 2014

Chrysler is recalling 780,000 of its Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans from the 2010 to 2014 model years due to the possibility of circuits overheating, which can lead to a fire. Of the 780,000 total vans being recalled, Chrysler estimates that 644,850 are in the US, 106,980 are in Canada, 8,009 are in Mexico, and 20,638 are in other markets. All of the affected vehicles were built between August 25, 2010 and October 31, 2013.
Chrysler's engineers discovered that beverage spills or exposure to moisture (from rain, snow, car washes, and the like) were linked to circuits shorting in the window switch assembly. Short circuits can overheat, and thus, cause a fire.
Chrysler will contact owners and let them know when they may schedule service, at which point, the window switches will be replaced. In the interim, the automaker says that owners may visit their dealers after May 14 to have the switches disconnected.

2014 Dodge Durango Ron Burgundy ads already have 2.7M views [w/videos]

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

The guy who once made the Dodge Stratus a punchline of sorts is now a spokesman for the 2014 Dodge Durango, and the move appears to be paying off handsomely for Dodge. Will Ferrell, acting as 1970s-era TV news personality Ron Burgundy, has teamed up with the automaker for co-branded advertisements between the refreshed 2014 Durango and Ferrell's new movie, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Like Ferrell's fictional character, the ads are outrageous, flamboyant and a bit random. They're also successful: Automotive News says that more than 2.7 million people have already watched the videos since they debuted on October 5.
Those views are similar to the numbers that AN's top viral video of the year (e.g. Volkswagen's "Get Happy" Super Bowl ad) received, but there will eventually be as many as 70 videos comprising the Burgundy-Durango spots. According to the report, the videos were created primarily as a viral campaign online, although some are airing on television, too. For Dodge's part, the cost of the videos was significantly lower than a usual television campaign thanks to the fact that Ferrell wasn't paid for the spots since they were made in cooperation with promotional efforts for his new movie.
We've already posted a few of the videos in our previous post, but scroll down for several more - and head over to Adweek for a little added background on how these spots came to be.

Challenger A/T Unlimited Concept could be your next Hellcat-powered ORV

Fri, 29 Aug 2014

This past June I spent an excellent day hanging out with Joey Ruiter, driving and discussing his Reboot Buggy project. Before heading home, I let him know that he was more than welcome to keep me abreast of whichever new automotive project he'd get into. You can never have too many car designers and one-off fabricators in your Rolodex, right?
Ruiter recently made good with the follow-up, emailing me with details on this Dodge Challenger A/T Untamed Concept that pushes a lot of hot buttons for the muscle car and off-roading enthusiasts.
This all-terrain Mopar is a lot more than a Challenger body dropped on a truck chassis, too. A materialized version of the A/T would included a completely new, long-travel suspension, skid plates, body armor and rock sliders, and obviously flared fenders to help accommodate a hellacious set of off-road-ready tires. The dramatically revised underpinnings would be topped with a slick graphics package and a killer lower light bar, all making the A/T look quite cohesive in its own, radical way. And the result would be a car no longer limited to mere road-driving.
