History-
This car was owned by my neighbor's mother who is now in her 90's.  She bought the car new from Kirkwood Dodge in Wilmington Delaware in 1992.  She drove the car locally until a few years ago when she stopped driving.  The car was then stored under cover in my neighbor's driveway.  My neighbor drove the car monthly for the last few years to keep it running smoothly.  I acquired the car from my neighbor 3 weeks ago because he was tired of storing the vehicle and knew I currently had a Delaware dealer plate.

The car was just repainted in its original silver color, and serviced by my mechanic.  My mechanic replaced the fuel tank, fuel filter, fuel sending unit and windshield wiper blades.  A total of $1,150 was spent on the paint job & mechanic service.

The car is ready for a new owner to drive and enjoy.  My mechanic advised me that the car may need a new battery in the future, but the battery currently holds a charge.

Location-
Vehicle is garaged in Wilmington Delaware.  I can pick up the winning bidder at either Philadelphia, PA International Airport or Wilmington, DE Amtrak Station if necessary.

Dodge shows can-do attitude with grand Can'avan sculpture

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

There are lots of ways to celebrate an important birthday, and all of them are well deserved. You can throw a big party, buy yourself something nice, or - if you're the altruistic type - do something for others in need. The latter is how Chrysler has opted to mark the 30th anniversary of its Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country.
Together with hunger-advocacy organization Canstruction, the Chrysler Foundation has built a full-scale replica of the Grand Caravan out of 30,000 food cans in the square at the corner of Yonge and Dundas in Toronto, a ways down the highway from where the real vans are built in Windsor. The sculpture was built over the course of 10 hours by 30 volunteers and was displayed earlier this week.
Now the installation is being taken down, and the cans of food are being donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank, which will assemble them into 2,000 food baskets to be distributed to those in need through its network of 200 food banks across the Canadian metropolis. Check out a neat time-lapse video of the build and the press release below.

How fracking is causing Chrysler minivans to sit on Detroit's riverfront

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

It's fascinating the way that one change to a complex system can have all sorts of unintended consequences. For instance, there are hundreds of new Chrysler Town and County and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built in Windsor, Ontario, sitting in lots on the Detroit waterfront because of the energy boom in the Bakken oil field in the northern US and parts of Canada.
The huge amount of crude oil coming from these sites mostly use freight trains for transport, and that supply boom has resulted in a shortage of railcars to carry other goods. According to The Windsor Star, North American crude oil transport by train has gone from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 434,032 carloads in 2013. Making matters worse, some North American rail infrastructure is still damaged because of this year's harsh winter, and that's slowing things down even further.
Chrysler admits to The Star that it has had some delivery delays due to the freight train shortage. In the meantime, it's using more trucks to deliver its vehicles. Trucking is a far less economical solution, partially because a train can carry so many more units at one time, but alternatives are slim. The Windsor plant alone has a deal for 33 trucks to distribute the minivans around Canada and the Midwestern US.

Dodge lets us drive 100-years' worth of history [w/videos]

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

A raft of important production models from the last hundred years were available for me to either drive or ride in.
Dodge is 100 years old this year. So, as happened on Ford's recent centennial, the 50-year birthday of the Porsche 911, and others, the company has an excuse to trot out the highlights of its history next to its upcoming model lineup, and declare that "these are the fruits of the Dodge Boys' tree whose roots have grown strong." Or something like that. Never so hampered by marketing skepticism that I'll pass up the opportunity to burn someone else's rubber, I was happy to drive out to Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester Hills, MI - former grand estate of the Dodge family - to hear the spiel.
