The American Club Racing (ACR) model was introduced in 1999 which has suspension and engine enhancements focused on maximizing performance in road racing and autocross environments. With the use of K&N air filters and smooth intake tubes, horsepower on the 8 liter V10 was bumped to 460 (370 kW), while torque increased to 500 lb-ft (678 Nm). Weight was reduced by over 50 pounds (23 kg) by stripping the interior and removing other non-essential items such as the fog lamps (replacing them with brake ducts) while the new stiffer, adjustable suspension removed another 14 pounds (6.4 kg). These models feature an ACR badge and 18 20-spoke BBS wheels. Power from the V10 is transmitted through a 6-speed manual transmission to the rear anti-spin differential with 3:07 gear ratio. Optional equipment on this rare Viper Red with dual painted gray stripes is the aforementioned ACR Competition Group, Comfort Group that includes air conditioning and an Alpine stereo system with a CD player. Standard interior appointments include analog gauges, night/day mirror, tilt, leather wrapped steering, power steering, security system with keyless entry, 5-point racing harnesses and a special ACR dash plaque. The 5-point harnesses are missing the bottom connector. The rear view mirror has red in it, don't know how since it was there when I bought it. The front tires have less than 2000 miles on them and the rear tires have dry rot, but I have new Nittos tires in the garage which will be included in the purchase of the car. The interior is all custom, yellow and black just like the exterior.

Will Dodge limit 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat to 1,200 units?

Sun, 20 Jul 2014

With over 700 horsepower on tap and a price tag barely over $60k, Dodge appears on paper to have a winner on its hands with the new Challenger SRT Hellcat. But if you want to get your hands on one, you may have to act quicker than this most powerful of muscle cars covers the quarter-mile.
That's because, according to our compatriots over at Edmunds, Dodge may limit production - in the first year, at least - to just 1,200 units. That would amount to barely a quarter of the Challengers that Dodge moves each month, and would also mean only one Hellcat for every two Dodge dealers in the US - which could lead to some serious contention over which stores and which customers can get their hands on the ultimate Challenger.
Reached for comment, SRT spokesman Dan Reid told Autoblog that "there is no plan to limit production of the Challenger Hellcat," echoing the words of Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis who told Edmunds: "We don't know what the market demand is." Which doesn't mean that it won't restrict production, but doesn't mean that it will, either. It just hasn't decided yet - or announced any such decision, at any rate - over what will be the final allocation strategy for what could be a game-changing muscle car. That is, at least, until new versions of the Mustang and Camaro come along in pursuit of Dodge's bragging rights...

NHTSA investigating Chrysler for airbags, ignition switches

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

Chrysler is being targeted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a pair of actions that focus on over 1.2 million Jeeps, minivans and crossovers.
The first is a "preliminary investigation" that focuses on an airbag issue afflicting the Jeep Commander built in model years 2006 and 2007 and Grand Cherokee from 2005 to 2006. In total, 700,000 vehicles could potentially be affected. It's not entirely clear what the airbag issue is, with The Detroit Free Press simply stating that the restraint systems in the affected Jeeps may be "faulty."
The other investigation is what's called a "recall query" and it covers a problem that General Motors should be familiar with. In this case, there could be a problem with the ignition switches of 525,000 vehicles, ranging from 2008 to 2010 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, to the 2008 to 2010 Dodge Journey crossover. Again, it's not entirely clear what sort of behavior prompted the 32 complaints that NHTSA has received on these vehicles.

Dodge vs. Chevy tug-of-war taken to the extreme

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

They say "idle hands are the devil's playground," but said playgrounds grow to Disney-sized proportions when a pair of jacked-up trucks, two egos, a chain and an empty mall parking lot are involved. Proof of this is the video below, which shows a Cummins-powered Dodge Ram circa 2006 to 2008 chained tail-to-tail with what looks to be a gasoline-powered Chevrolet Silverado from the late 1990s or early 2000s.
We don't necessarily have to tell you who wins this battle, but we'll let you see for yourself the lengths the "winning" driver goes to prove his point. There's plenty of foul language in the video below, so beware that this might be Not Safe For Work, and not that we should have to tell you, but please, do not try this at home.
