Ferrari F360 Modena Challenge
MFY: 2001
Engine: F131B
Assembly #: 39674
Price: $95.000.

Fans of the Ferrari brand will know the Ferrari 360MC (Modena Challenge) is an extensively reworked, non-road legal version of the 360 Modena Road Car.  It was originally produced to compete in the Ferrari Challenge Racing Series.  The 360 MC is a fully factory built affair which afforded the Ferrari engineers the chance to maximize weight reduction, converting the road car into a viable circuit racing machine.

A huge attention to detail ensures this car is drastically stripped of unnecessary weight over the road ready version and appropriate safety equipment such as a carbon fiber racing seat, FIA approved restraint harnesses, a roll cage and an OMP fire suppression system with inboard controls have been incorporated.  The fully stripped out interior and bare carbon detailing ensure the car really does feel a world away from its luxurious road going brother. Race drivers will appreciate the Spartan but highly functional interior where unnecessary toys such as the sound system, electric windows, central locking, interior trim, airbags, air conditioning, hand brake and road seats are all removed in the name of reduced curb weight.

The suspension in the 360 MC was extensively revised and the electronic adaptive comfort system of the Modena was rejected for a traditional fixed damping setup, which is substantially stiffer and lower. Now while this does cut pitch and roll at the compromise of road car comfort, who really needs road car comfort in a dedicated racing car?  Thicker brakes designed to cope with the constant stress and strain of the track incorporate air cooling ducts to prevent overheating. And who can argue with the enhanced driving characteristics of an F1 gearbox? Although the 3.6 engine is broadly similar to the original, according to Ferrari the 360 MC can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds. That’s a full 0.6 seconds quicker than the standard 360 Modena F1.

It’s inspiring what good old-fashioned weight reduction and an improved power-to-weight ratio can accomplish.

Here are the official performance figures for this 2001 Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge (TRACK), Red with Red interior, Stock number 39674

Ferrari reveals one-off F12 TRS at Sicily cavalcade

Mon, 23 Jun 2014

Every year Ferrari owners gather from all corners of the globe for the annual Ferrari Cavalcade. This year's edition just wrapped up in Sicily, where over 90 proud owners from 27 different countries brought their prides and joys. Some of the participating supercars were more rare and notable than others - included among them several LaFerraris - but the extravaganza included the reveal of one very unique Prancing Horse.
That would be the new F12 TRS. The one-off creation surfaced just last week, the work of the Ferrari Special Projects division for one very fortunate client. It's based on the F12 Berlinetta, but replaces its coupe bodywork with new roadster sheetmetal that incorporates a glass window to reveal the red cylinder heads from which its inspiration - the 250 Testa Rossa - drew its name and a cowled rear deck. The open cockpit is trimmed in leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber, but ditches the glovebox, air vents, carpeting, audio system and other creature comforts.
Contrary to earlier reports, the F12 TRS does not appear to have a hybrid powertrain, the conventional 6.3-liter V12 producing the same 730 horsepower as the coupe to propel this one-off roadster to 62 in 3.1 seconds and to 124 mph in 8.1 - so as you can see, it hardly needed any help in the first place. Check it out in photos above, and feel free to read more in the press release below.

Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider tops Gooding's Saturday auction at $15.18 million

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

During the weekend's automotive smorgasbord in Pebble Beach, Ferrari has played a huge roll. Twenty examples of the ultra-rare 250 TR, better known as the Testa Rossa, were prominently on display at the Concours d'Elegance, and the Prancing Horses have been top sellers at many of the auctions. You can chalk up one more on that list with a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider with a scarce, optional hardtop included going for $15.18 million at Gooding & Company's sale on Saturday night. Ferris Bueller would find it so choice.
In all, the auction house brought in about $60.4 million during the night, and 17 of the cars on the block sold for over $1 million. None of the other cars on Saturday managed quite the stratospheric highs of the California, though. A 1955 Aston Martin DB3S was the second-highest seller at $5.5 million. The next four top vehicles were all Ferraris with final prices ranging between $2.09 million and $2.365 million. Clearly, investors are in love with the Prancing Horse these days.
Check out our gallery, and scroll down to read the auction house's announcement of its top Saturday results.

2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale

Wed, 28 May 2014

I wasted my last hour with the 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale pacing the polished concrete floor of Home Depot. My quest was to find an industrial-strength adhesive that would permanently bond me to the bright-red Italian's carbon-fiber racing seat. At that moment, I was determined to spend the rest of my life with this Ferrari - glued behind its F1-inspired steering wheel - selfishly dismissing trivial matters like eating, bathing and all future interaction with my wife and kids.
After reviewing literally hundreds of exceptional vehicles, many considered the finest enthusiast offerings each automaker has to offer, I had finally found my mechanical soulmate - the limited-production 458 Speciale. I somehow became convinced that cementing myself within its spartan cabin would ensure that our love affair would never end. My plan was ingenious, assuming the hardware store still had a large bottle of Gorilla Glue on the shelf.
Simply put, there is no better way to start a weekend than with a gassed-up Rosso Corsa Ferrari 458 Speciale parked in your driveway and instructions to "Enjoy!"
