You are bidding on a heavily modified 1974 Ford Bronco I purchased in Palm Springs, CA in 2003.  When I bought the truck, it was bone stock with a tired 302, 3 speed on the column with a shot suspension.  I installed a 2 inch body lift then added a Deaver 3.5 inch front and 2.5 inch rear suspension lift for that SoCal look.  The extended heim-jointed front radius arms give fantastic articulation off road while the twin Rancho 9000 shocks at each corner keep things under control at speed.

The engine is a Smeding Performance build 392 stroker.  Classic Truck magazine did a write-up on this motor in April 2007; Google it, this truck gets after it!  A hydroboost power braking system get you slowed down quick.  Feeding that engine is a Howell throttle body injection system.  A 25-gal fuel tank gives a 300-mile range....give or take.  Behind the 392 is an NV3550 5-speed transmission; an Atlas II twin stick transfer case sends power to the high pinion Dana 44 front and 9-inch rear end.  Front and rear axles have 4.10 gears with ARB lockers.  The full width axles from a 1978 F-150 are stronger than stock and give an extra 6-inches of wheel track adding to stability off road.  Off road you are protected by a custom 6-point roll cage built just for this truck while 3/8 steel rock skis protect the rocker panels and provide a nice step-up into the cab.

At the front of the truck a pre-runner bumper holds a pair of Hella HID lights for long range illumination and two 5-inch KC running lights.  The 9500-lb winch is wrapped with synthetic rope for safety.  The truck was completely re-wired in 2007 ensuring that the electrical system was up to handling the power that the winch additional lights draw.  The winch has remote controls installed on the dash.  The rear bumper holds up to a 38-inch spare tire and  high-lift jack on one side and a Jerry can and ice chest on the other.  I modified the hard top to a safari-style top with a rag top sunroof installed.  I recovered the front seats in reproduction original style seat covers.  The rear seat is a fold and tumble unit from Wild Horses.

I'm sure I am forgetting a bunch of things because the list of modifications is longer than my arm.  I have over $65,000 in receipts for work that I have had done on this truck.  It's no show truck but I get lots of compliments on it wherever I go.  This truck is built to go just about anywhere without any worries and is reliable enough to jump in and drive across the country.  I hate to sell it I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it.

Ford Police Interceptors win acceleration war against Dodge, Chevy

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

Just last month, Ford announced its first-ever non-pursuit-rated version of the Police Interceptor sedan for agencies looking to maximize fuel economy, but that doesn't mean that Ford is giving up on chasing down the bad guys. While the Dodge Charger can lay claim to the fastest lap time at the Grattan Raceway test facility held by the Michigan State Police, the results are now in for the Police Vehicle Evaluation acceleration tests. And Ford's Police Interceptor duo (sedan and utility) came out on top.
In the acceleration tests, Ford says that the Taurus-based PI Sedan with the newly available 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 was the quickest among prospective police cars in both 0-60 and 0-100 mile per hour times. The sedan posted a 0-60 time of 5.66 seconds with all-wheel drive and 5.71 seconds with front-wheel drive, besting V8-powered competitors like the Chevy Caprice and Dodge Charger by more than 0.3 seconds. These rivals close the gap on the AWD sedan in the 0-100 test with the Ford taking 13.5 seconds compared to the Chevy's time of 14.35 and the Dodge's time of 14.7.
As for utility vehicles, the Explorer-based PI Utility, which accounts for 60 percent of Ford's police vehicle sales, essentially went head-to-head with the V8-powered Chevy Tahoe with similar results. Equipped with the new EcoBoost engine option, this big SUV hit 60 mph in just 6.28 seconds and 100 mph in 15.51 seconds compared to times of 8.22 seconds and 21.95 seconds, respectively, for the Tahoe. Other important tests in the PVE include braking and top speed, but while no automakers have stepped up to boast about their numbers in either of these categories, Ford's images show that the V8 Caprice had the highest top speed of the cars at 155 mph while the Tahoe's 139-mph speed made it the fastest utility vehicle.

Hertz goes Dutch with Ford Focus ST-H

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

Want to take a performance car for a ride? Hertz can make that happen. Spin by your local rental location (depending, of course, on availability) and you can take out a Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro, even a Corvette as part of the Adrenaline Collection. Hertz's Dream Cars lineup even includes Porsches and AMGs. But the really interesting stuff is what you can't get anywhere else: cars built specifically for Hertz.
Back in 1966, Hertz had Ford cook up a special run of Mustang GT350H models in back with gold stripes. It became an icon in and of itself, and in 2008 Hertz had a new batch of Shelby GT-Hs made. Earlier this year, Hertz contracted Penske to deliver another fleet of specially-built Mustangs you can rent. But if your travel plans include a trip to the Netherlands, Hertz has a completely different type of specially-prepared Ford on offer for you.
Back in August, Ford delivered a couple of Focus STs made specifically for Hertz in Holland. Now it's expanded that fleet even further. The Ford Focus ST-H features the same 252-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo four (and everything else) as the standard Focus ST, but gets that signature black exterior with gold stripes and a black leather interior with Recaro buckets. So in case a trip to Amsterdam doesn't hold enough thrills, now you can throw a hot hatch into the mix as well. Scope out the press release (in Dutch - isn't that weird?) below.

Ford Tourneo ready for duty in Connect, Courier and Custom flavors [w/videos]

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

Ford was relatively quiet at the Geneva Motor Show, but it did take the opportunity to roll out its new family of Tourneo vans: the Courier, Connect, Grand Connect and Custom. As the passenger version of the Transit cargo vans, the new range of Tourneo models vary from the B-segment Courier up to the fullsize Custom. The Connect and Grand Connect are based on the redesigned 2014 Ford Transit Connect.
With an overall length just three inches longer than the Fiesta hatchback, the Tourneo Courier seats four to five passengers, and it offers a choice of three engines: the 1.0-liter EcoBoost or two small diesels. Like the 2014 Transit Connect was saw in Paris last year, the Tourneo Connect comes in a five-seat configuration while the Grand Connect can seat seven. Finally, the Tourneo Custom seats up to nine passengers, and it is available in two lengths up to 210 inches long putting it just six inches shorter than a standard-length E-Series van and about a foot longer than the Explorer.
