1999 Ford E350 Super Duty 7.3L Turbo-Diesel Ambulance Camper/RV Van Conversion Project
I am the first private owner of this ambulance (and you would be the second) after it was retired from a Kansas hospital fleet with a perfect maintenance record.
It requires no special license to register/drive, and is insurable as a commercial vehicle (commercial because of its weight class). As long as the red lights are blacked-out, it is completely street-legal in every state.
The exterior decoration includes the tibetan "om mani padme hum" sutra repeated in the decal stripe (the same mantra that is written on prayer flags/prayer wheels), yin-yangs in the p-wave of the EKG, and rainbow peace signs outlining the blue medical stars-of-life.
Potential uses include:
Quality heavy-duty engine (with block heater) and 1-ton chassis (the 7.3's have a great reputation)
<127k miles (of which 20k were from me)
~12 mpg
All new commercial tires(6) plus 1 new full-size spare
"Air ride" rear axle suspension
Fresh oil and brand new fuel filter
Passes emission standards as of April 2013
Full safety inspection shows everything in good condition with two exceptions: 1) needs new rear brakes 2) speedometer needle does not function (however, VSS, odometer, and trip meter are all fully functional)
Camper conversion details:
Wheeled Coach brand ambulance box
Fully insulated walls, tinted windows, 2 rear and 1 side doors
3 AC wall-outlets with 120V inverter off of the engine plus a standard-socket external hookup line
Box heat/ac with thermostat control
10' Camping Awning
Propane stove (plus propane, which is stored in the ventilated oxygen compartment), and microwave included
Sink area is non-functional, I used the area for water tank storage
Coat hanger plus 2 shelves in closet space (doors closed in photo), additional modular storage along right wall
Dual bike hooks in the rear
Overhead lighting: adjustable-brightness incandescent, red-tinted fluorescent, and LED push-lights
TONS of internal and external storage space

2015 Ford Mustang stars in bizarrely awesome '80s aerobics video
Wed, 30 Apr 2014For reasons we can't comprehend, here's a music video starring the all-new, 2015 Ford Mustang and a number of dancers dressed and styled in the most stereotypically 1980s way possible. The dancers then take part in a male-versus-female dance off. Again, we've no idea why it exists.
It's weird, and for the second time in two weeks, we're sat at our computer wondering, "What are we watching?" That said, it does show the new Mustang from a number of angles, and it's one of the first car-related YouTube videos we've seen that's available in a 4K, ultra-high-def stream.
Take a look below, and let us know what you think in Comments.
1964 Ford GT40 prototype sells for $7M
Mon, 14 Apr 2014Seven-figure Ferraris are not horribly rare. Heck, an eight-figure Ferrari isn't a rare occurrence. Between modern masterpieces like the Enzo and more classic offerings, cracking the million-dollar mark isn't a particularly tall order for the cars from Maranello. For a Ford, though, it's a big deal.
Now, this is not just some rare Mustang. This is a GT40, the car that Henry Ford II commissioned to whip Enzo Ferrari around a track in France. As far as the Le Mans-winning racers go, they don't get much rarer than this one. Sold at the Mecum Auctions in Houston, this is one of the prototypes, meaning it's one of the very first GT40s ever built. That makes its $7 million winning a bid, a record for on-air coverage of the auction, a pretty darn impressive figure.
You can watch the auction below, but first, take a look back at our original story on this rare Blue Oval.
Next Ford F-150 delayed for aluminum body panel issues?
Wed, 11 Dec 2013The timetable for next-generation Ford F-150 may be in trouble if a report from The Truth About Cars is true. The next F-150 is slated to make extensive use of weight-saving aluminum in its body, but the aluminum alloy provided by suppliers hasn't met Ford's requirements in the earliest phases of pre-production, according to the report.
The F-150 represents a huge portion of Ford's profits and is the best-selling truck in the US, even in the face of increased pressure from cross-town rivals General Motors and Ram. While the current truck is treading water against its competition, we'd be lying if we said the F-150 weren't growing quite long in the tooth.
If production of the next-generation of the Ford cash cow, said to be based on the Atlas Concept from the 2013 Detroit Auto Show (pictured above), is delayed, it could be bad for Ford. Production at Ford's Dearborn Truck Plant is already set to be delayed six to ten weeks, missing an internal on-sale deadline of Memorial Day.
