Drive Solo in the HOV/Carpool lanes!  Make your commute quick and easy.  Fill up a tank for half the price!

You are bidding on a 2001 Ford F150 CNG XL with 126,806 miles on it.  It was purchased in 2011 from a dealer and had only one owner up to that time.  When purchased there were 119,000+ miles on it, so we've only put about 7,000 miles on it in the past two years.  It was purchased as a commute vehicle to allow my wife to zip through traffic on the freeway, but rarely used otherwise.  Almost all the miles are highway miles.

This truck is in great condition.  Great cosmetically inside and out.  No mechanical issues.  Clean title and no accidents, not even minor ones.  Tires have plenty of tread.  New battery and shocks were added in 2011, as was a replacement thermostat.  No issues or repairs other than that.

This truck operates on Natural Gas only.  It can be filled up in a number of different locations, or even at your own home (with a special pump).  I have refueled it at either the local PG&E station or at the San Jose Airport.  Either work great.  Natural Gas burns cleaner than gasoline, and is about half the price, so its nice not having to take out a mortgage to fill up the tank on a truck.

This truck also comes with the optional 3rd CNG tank, which brings the range to about 300 miles.  Tanks were inspected in 2011.  This is important.  By law, CNG tanks need to be inspected every three years, but in my experience, neither dealers nor consumers ever have their tanks inspected.  If you are in the market for a CNG vehicle please ensure that the tanks have been inspected (or have them inspected yourself prior to use).  The tanks are rated for 3600PSI, although they can also accept 3000PSI nozzles if you are at a station that does not offer 3600PSI (I'm not aware of any in my area, but there may be some elsewhere)

The sound system was upgraded when we purchased the truck, to a new Sony head unit with CD player and Bluetooth capability.  WOrks great for taking calls from the road, and it even wirelessly streams music (e.g., Pandora) from your smartphone to the sound system.

Mechanically eveything runs fine.  Cosmetically, the exterior is in great shape.  I have tried to take pictures showing all parts of the vehicle.  There are a few tiny paint chips on the hood, and the front bumper has some scratches in it, both of which I have shown.  There are the occasional minor paint chip around the vehicle, but nothing you would notice unless you looked very closely.  Way above average for a 12 year old vehicle.  The truck bed is a long bed, although the CNG tanks take up some of the space, so it is the equivalent of a normal bed.  The bed itself has some worn paint and scratches in it, but it is not noticeable from outside of the vehicle unless you have the gate down.  If it bothers you, you can put a bed liner over it, although my wife never seemed to notice because she never used the bed.

Interior is in great shape.  No tears in the seat.  One of the visors shows some minor wear.  One visor clip (the part above the windshield that you snap the visor to when moving it back into position) doesn't work, although the visor holds in place fine without it.  Steering wheel shows some minor wear.

The engine is a Triton V8 5.4L, very powerful engine that can tow a boat (with an optional trailer hitch).

If you are local to the San Francisco Bay Area and wish to test drive the vehicle, please let me know.  I cannot ship the vehicle myself but if you wish to hire a vehicle delivery service (I can recommend some if need be), then I am certainly willing to cooperate with them.

Deposit of US $300.00 within 24 hours of auction close. Full payment required within 7 days of auction close.

This vehicle is being sold as-is.

2016 Ford Explorer embarks at the LA Auto Show

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

Twenty-five years since its debut in 1990, Ford will celebrate a quarter century of Explorer models next year with the debut of a refreshed 2016 model at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19. The Blue Oval is keeping mum on hard details about the updated SUV for now, but the brand promises, "a new look, added capability and additional driver-assist technology," in its announcement.
Company marketing boss Jim Farley elaborated a little more on what to expect. "The new Explorer is still the SUV America fell in love with - a vehicle built for the perfect family adventure," he said in the release that you're welcome to read down below.
An updated Explorer is a pretty big deal for Ford's bottom line. Worldwide, SUVs and crossovers account for about 23 percent of Ford's sales, and the segment is projected to grow to around 29 percent by 2020. Ford further says that SUVs and CUVs are the world's quickest growing segment with demand up 88 percent since 2008.

Ford bringing 10 custom Transit Connects to SEMA

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

With 57 vehicles planned for its SEMA display, it comes as little surprise that Ford has plenty of teasers for its show cars. After showing us what it has in store for the Mustang, Fiesta and Focus ST, now we're getting a look at some of the custom creations based on the redesigned 2014 Transit Connect van.
These nine Transit Connects are decked out to various degrees of customization, but our favorite might be the chopped and lowered Transit Connect from Mob Steel (shown above), which has a similar slammed stance that we see on some custom VW Buses. On the opposite extreme, LGE & CTS Motorsports has jacked up a Transit Connect to make a Cross Country cruiser that we wouldn't mind taking on a road trip.
There are seven other teasers from various companies, and you can check them all out in the gallery above or in the press release below. Ford is also promising a tenth Transit Connect for SEMA, so stay tuned for that as well.

Ford using robot drivers to test durability [w/video]

Sun, 16 Jun 2013

In testing the durability of its upcoming fullsize Transit vans, Ford has begun using autonomous robotic technology to pilot vehicles through the punishing courses of its Michigan Proving Grounds test facility. The autonomous tech allows Ford to run more durability tests in a single day than it could with human drivers, as well as create even more challenging tests that wouldn't be safe to run with a human behind the wheel.
The technology being used was developed by Utah-based Autonomous Solutions, and isn't quite like the totally autonomous vehicles being developed by companies like Google and Audi for use out in the real world. Rather, Ford's autonomous test vehicles follow a pre-programmed course and their position is tracked via GPS and cameras that are being monitored from a central control room. Though the route is predetermined, the robotic control module operates the steering, acceleration and braking to keep the vehicle on course as it drives over broken concrete, cobblestones, metal grates, rough gravel, mud pits and oversize speed bumps.
Scroll down to watch the robotic drivers in action, though be warned that you're headed for disappointment if you expect to see a Centurion behind the wheel (nerd alert!). The setup looks more like a Mythbusters experiment than a scene from Battlestar Galactica.
