My son drove this car while in high school in the late 90's.  The blue interior is in decent shape.  There is no body damage but there are rust-through areas around the fender wells and rocker panels and there is surface rust.  The bumpers show rust and would need to be rechromed.  The glass is in good shape.

My son and I rebuilt the engine in 1997.  We had a machine shop install a reground crank with new bearings, hone the cylinders and install new pistons and rings.  We installed a new camshaft and gears, timing chain, rebuilt cylinder head with hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel, rebuilt carb.,etc.  We basically rebuilt the complete engine.  My son drove it for a few thousand miles and then it was parked in my pole barn in 2002 where it sat for a few years.  I moved it to South Carolina about 5 years ago where it has sat in a storage lot.  It has not been driven or started since 2002.   By sitting for 11 years and not having been driven or started I am declaring the car to be not driveable.  If you buy this car you should be prepared to trailer it home.

The odometer shows 22,696 miles but it probably has 122,696 miles on it.  The engine has less than 10,000 miles on it since being completely rebuilt.

It's a 4-door Fairlane 500 with a 200 c.i. inch 6-cyl. engine and automatic transmission.

This is a complete car that needs to be restored or possibly could be driven without a lot of work but the running condition is not guaranteed.  The car is being sold as-is.  See the pictures for details and email me for my phone number if you would like to talk about the car.  I have additional pictures and can email them if you contact me.

I am also selling a 260 c.i. V-8 63 Fairlane 4-door for parts and a 221 c.i. V-8 63 Fairlane 2-door.  See the last picture and my other ebay ads for details on these cars.

I will need a deposit via paypal within 2 days of auction end and will only accept cash when you pick up the car.

The car is for sale locally and the auction may be withdrawn if the car sells locally before auction end.

Car and Driver lists 10Best for 2013, same as it ever was

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Forgive us for having the distinct feeling of déjà vu, but it certainly feels like we've been here before. By that we are referring Car and Driver and the announcement of its annual 10Best vehicles for 2013. To be sure, it's an impressive selection of cars that combine heart-pounding performance and frugal sensibilities, but it also represents something of a broken record on the part of C/D. We're not so sure that's a flaw, though, as the resulting list is tough to argue with.
Vehicles like the Ford Mustang, Porsche Boxster, and BMW 3 Series have maintained their high-horsepower spots on this list for several years now. Even on the more practical and nimble end, the Honda Accord, Honda Fit and Mazda Miata have not budged. These continued spots are even in light of redesigns for some vehicles such as the Accord, Boxster and 3 Series.
In fact, the only newcomer to the 10Best list this year are the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ twins, which knocked out the Cadillac CTS-V. We think it would have been a huge misstep to have excluded the FR-S/BRZ, even in light of the supercharged Caddy's lamentable departure from 10Best.

Ford dinged by OSHA for asbestos at Buffalo plant

Sat, 20 Jul 2013

Ford has come under fire from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for violations regarding asbestos exposure in a company metal stamping plant in Buffalo, NY. OSHA has cited Ford for eight violations in total, according to an Automotive News report, and faces fines of up to $41,800. 537 workers are employed at the stamping facility.
The violations include a pipefitter at the facility being exposed to asbestos-containing material while working on a steam line, other workers exposed to the material without respiratory protection and work areas that were not designed to limited the number of workers in contact with asbestos. Further, areas in which asbestos was present were not properly restricted, and levels of asbestos in the air were not monitored.
According to an unnamed Ford spokesperson in the AN report, the company feels that the OSHA citation is erroneous saying, "We have fully cooperated with the local OSHA officials and we don't believe the citations are warranted." Ford also maintains that it will work with the authorities to resolve the issue.

1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express in Generation Gap showdown with 1933 Ford Pickup

Fri, 18 Jul 2014

Auto enthusiasts love a good debate, whether it's Mustang versus Camaro or Ferrari against Lamborghini. But how about a battle between two very different vintages of classic pickup trucks? In this case, the fight is between a 1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express and a 1933 Ford Model 46 truck with a flathead V8.
The shootout comes courtesy of the internet series Generation Gap, and its concept is super-simple. One guy prefers classics, and the other likes newer rides. They choose a category, pick two vehicles and put them head to head. In this case, neither is exactly modern, though. The Ford is more than old enough to receive Social Security checks, and the Dodge is hardly a young whippersnapper.
Other than both being pickups, these two models were made to serve very different functions. The Li'l Red Express was basically the progenitor of today's muscle trucks, with a big V8 that made it one of the quickest new models in its day (admittedly, 1979 was a rough time for automotive performance). On the other hand, the '33 Ford was just meant to work, with little pretense for anything else. One of the hosts describes it as "the simplest, most difficult" vehicle he's driven because of the tricky double clutchwork necessary to shift gears. Scroll down to watch the video and try to decide which of these two American classics you would rather have in your garage.
