1966 Ford Econoline Campwagon on 2040-cars
Evanston, Illinois, United States
1966 Ford Campwagon/Falcon Stretch Camper/Van. This is one of the nicest vehicles I have ever owned, and sadly I am selling it and saying goodbye to an old friend. This is, in my opinion, every bit as cool as a VW camper with more power and reliability! It was stripped and painted it's original color scheme by a fantastic body and paint guy who became seriously ill just as he finished the project. The body condition is clean and dry, and the paint is as close to a "10" as I have ever seen. It runs great, does not leak anywhere, has brand new tires with less than 100 miles on them, and the camper pop up mechanism is tight and leak proof, with nice windows and screens in the "upper deck.". The dinette folds into a double bed, and the seats can be flipped in any direction though facing each other with the table in the middle seems to be where it likes to stay. The front seats are perfect and original. Chrome is beautiful. Driving it is a joy. The front end is tight, the suspension perfect and smooth, and it tracks straight down the road with only the occasional rattle from something in a cupboard! The brakes are all manual and work well. The transmission shifts perfectly and is very smooth. All fluids have been changed recently, and it's just received a new battery and starter. I have just put in a fuel sender and will hook it up this weekend. It has no radio but an antenna and hookup for easy installation. It has: 2 burner propane stove Sink with 4 gallon water tank Icebox (block ice type) which lasts 3-4 days Good cupboard space/Storage front and rear Original hammocks (never used) that fit into holders up top and over front seats. (perfect for kids) Spare tire brand new It needs: The dinette cushions should be reupholstered. *They are fine just a little frayed. The handle on the emergency brake needs replacing. It should get new curtains! I don't know a seamstress or I would have done it. The dash was NOT painted when truck was stripped. To be perfect/it should be done. I have set a reasonable reserve on this van. Please only bid if you are serious and have the funds available. Your bid is a contract and I expect you to honor it. No one with a 0 rating will be able to bid, so please...no fantasy stalkers or dreamers please! This is a beautiful and rare vehicle and it will give you years of trouble-free service with some regular care and maintenance. |

Ford builds Lightweight Concept with Fusion shell [w/video]
Wed, 04 Jun 2014It's a fairly well known fact that removing weight from a car is essentially a panacea for many of the modern automobiles problems. Does it handle like crap? Remove weight. Underpowered? Don't add power; trim the fat. Need to improve fuel economy? It's diet time.
Actually executing a major weight reduction program, though, much like with human beings, is no easy task. Unlike you or I, where motivation is the issue, the prohibitive measure in trimming a car's waistline is money. Lightweight materials are expensive, with carbon fiber and carbon-fiber reinforced plastic still primarily in the domain of higher end vehicles. Even aluminum construction, pioneered on a mass-produced level by Audi and Jaguar, is only now starting to make its way into the mainstream, thanks to the upcoming Ford F-150.
With this concept, though, Ford is attempting to show that a mass-produced, lightweight vehicle isn't too far off. This is the Lightweight Concept, and while it may look like a Fusion, it weighs as much as a Fiesta. For reference, the lightest Fusion available to the public is the 3,323-pound, 2.5-liter model with a manual transmission. A manually equipped, 1.6-liter Fiesta, meanwhile, is just 2,537 pounds.
Ford jumps back in the water with marinized 6.2L V8
Wed, 06 Nov 2013Nameplates like the Mercury Mariner and Lincoln Navigator aside, Ford hasn't offered a marine engine in over two decades. But through a new partnership with one of the biggest names in the business, the Dearborn-based automaker is dipping its proverbial toes back in the water.
Announced yesterday at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the new partnership between Ford Component Sales and Indmar Marine Engines will see the 6.2-liter V8 from the F-150 SVT Raptor and F-Series Super Duty marinized for use in boats.
The largest privately owned inboard gasoline marine engine manufacturer in the world, Indmar has been in the business for 43 years, and figures the Ford V8 will be just what watersport enthusiasts are looking for to tow waterskiers and wakeboarders to their hearts' content.
NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue
Tue, 07 Oct 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.
