Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States

The Good:
  • I purchased this vehicle in 2009 with 20K miles. I am the second owner. I purchased from the local Chevy dealership as a certified pre-owned.
  • This car has 142k miles currently, primarily highway, since I was traveling around TN and AR for my company.
  • The adherence to the regular scheduled maintenance on this vehicle has been taken very seriously. All oil changes (Full Synthetic), system maintenance and tire purchases/rotations have been thoroughly documented.

The same meticulous care has been given to the interior and exterior upkeep.
  • This is a smoke free, pet free car.
  • The cabin trim is extremely comfortable and quiet. It has all leather seats, with heated driver and passenger seats.
  • The car is equipped with Microsoft's SYNC technology, which means you will be able to connect your smartphone via Bluetooth and USB interfaces. The voice activated commands allow you to navigate music, phone calls, and GPS directions.
  • The speakers that deliver this technology are extremely satisfying! I typically upgrade my autos stock stereo systems and was prepared to do so on this car, but when I first heard the sound quality of this Fusion, I was instantly satisfied, and impressed. Rich bass, definitive highs, along with speed volume control make this auto system enjoyable to use everyday.
  • The buttons and controls on this model are all so intuitively placed and operation of features like cruise control, sunroof, temperature control, and radio are all made extremely simple and convenient. The cruise control is sensitive and accurate.

Other trim amenities include:
  • Plently of cup holders.
  • 12V power adapters in both the dash and the armrest. USB charging and interface in the armrest.
  • Trunk access from back seats allows for a large increase in cargo space.
  • All of the floor mats are present and in good condition. I also use seasonal all weather mats during the winter months.

Bottom line, this car has been one of the most reliable, and enjoyable vehicles I have ever owned. There have not been any major mechanical issues. Brakes are solid still. Tires are about 2/3 through their life. Interior and exterior aesthetics have been carefully maintained.

The Bad:

I have had the front bumper professional repainted using the OEM color because of an accumulation of chips and scratches from road debris.
I have to replace the front left headlamp assembly because it has started to accumulate moisture.
The driver seat is beginning to show its wear through minor cracks in the leather.

Ford sued over alleged 3.5-liter EcoBoost defects

Thu, 16 May 2013

Three Ford owners from Ohio have filed a lawsuit against the automaker over defects that they allege exist within the company's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. Automotive News reports that the lawsuit claims the engine "contained serious latent design, manufacturing, or assembly defects." Those defects, the suit claims, cause the vehicle to shake, misfire and lose power quickly.
Two of the plaintiffs, a married couple, own a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, and allege they experienced a loss of power and stalling, while the third, an F-150 owner, claims he lost power while accelerating. In addition to the Taurus SHO and F-150, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine is also available in the Ford Flex, Explorer Sport and Lincoln MKT and MKS. Other three- and four-cylinder EcoBoost engines are not included in the suit. There have been no recalls associated with 3.5-liter V6 engine, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently not investigating the matter.
The plaintiffs, however, claim Ford has known about the problem, citing several technical service bulletins issued to dealers of the F-150 that suggest possible fixes. Ford had no comment for Automotive News, saying that it's yet to review the lawsuit, which was filed last Friday in Columbus, OH.

Spy shooter claims proof of upcoming aluminum Ford F-Series Super Duty

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

Ford has already confirmed that the 2015 F-150 (pictured above) was just the beginning for its more extensive use of aluminum. CEO Alan Mulally said it himself during the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. We've even already seen the future Raptor testing with an aluminum body. But a recent discovery from an intrepid spy photographer might indicate that the lightweight metal is coming to the Blue Oval's Super Duty pickups in their upcoming generation, as well.
According to Automotive News, a spy shooter in Colorado spotted a prototype for the next-gen F-350 testing. He happened to have a magnet on hand and got close enough to check the truck out. When he held it up to the metal in the bed, it didn't stick, which signaled to him a switch from steel to aluminum.
Obviously, this claim raises some questions. Given that it was a test vehicle, one possibility is that the Blue Oval is just evaluating the feasibility of switching to aluminum for the Super Duty trucks, not necessarily committed to it yet. Ford has been testing it quite exhaustively, after all. In fact, much of the rest of the truck in question was covered in camouflage, so it's possible that the magnet failed to work along the rest of the body not because it was aluminum, but because it wasn't powerful enough to get through the disguising material. Thus, the lightweight metal's use could be far less substantial than on the new F-150. Still, it was a clever idea for the cameraman to check things out and might have given us the first hint about brand's next heavy-duty models.

Ford and Chrysler reducing summer plant shutdowns

Wed, 22 May 2013

Most domestic automaker assembly plants traditionally take a couple of weeks off during the summer. The shutdowns give each plant time for much needed repairs and maintenance, and in some cases, help better align production with demand. Not this year, though, as demand for many models is outstripping what Ford, Chrysler and General Motors plants can produce.
Ford has announced that it will shorten its annual summer shutdown for most North American plants from two weeks to one. The shorter shutdown will increase the carmaker's annual North American production by 40,000 units on top of the 200,000 extra units that it was already planning to produce this year versus last. Automotive News reports that Ford produced 2.8 million vehicles on this continent in 2012, and that output this year has already increased 13 percent through April.
Chrysler, meanwhile, is also operating at full tilt and plans to run some plants through the summer with no shutdown at all. Those not getting a break include Jefferson North where the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango are assembled, Toledo North that will assemble the new Cherokee, and Conner Avenue, home of SRT Viper production. Other assembly plants will be down for a single week, while all of Chrysler's engine and transmission plants except one in Indiana will continue operating with no shutdown this summer.
