The last buyer could not come up with the funds so I'm relisting.  If you are looking for a ratrod that you can just jump in and enjoy, here it is!  This rod gets a lot of attention so be ready!  It has won many awards at local car shows and is a ton of fun to cruise. It runs and drives great!  This car is a ratrod so the body is not smooth, shiny, or perfect.  Here are some of the details

Motor and tranny:  SBC with T-350 tranny with shiftkit, electric fan, zoomie style headers, gear drive, mild cam, powder -coated tunnel ram with Holleys, exhaust ignitors, engine does not leak or smoke

Frame, Body, and the Rest:  12" Z in rear, 6" Z in front, built from 3x2 rec tube, removeable tranny crossmember, driveshaft loop, 4 link adjustable, chrome coil over shocks, adjustable tubular Mustang II front end, all adjustable tubular control arms, rack and pinion steering, Ford 9" rear end with 308 gears, steel body with some filler in usual spots, body is not shiny and perfect which is the ratrod look I was going for, flat black paint (not primer) with white scallops, chrome reverse steelie rims, white custom interior trimmed in green/gold metal flake just like the frame, medical grade glass on sides and rear, new window regulators, door handles, and window felt.

The car does need a new rear tire, and the brakes may need bled every once in a while.  Other than that this car just needs to be driven!

ABSOLUTELY NO TRADES!   We have enough toys and a new little boy so trades are not an option.  I reserve the right to end this auction at any time.

Jay Leno's Garage goes eco with Ricardo HyBoost

Mon, 17 Mar 2014

"Now before you turn away, this is not another boring hybrid car thing..." Despite the slightly defensive introduction from Jay, the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage is actually pretty fascinating. The Ricardo HyBoost is a 2009 Ford Focus that has had a 1.1-liter engine swapped in for the stock 2.0-liter four. That might not get you performance enthusiasts out there fired up, until, that is, you hear that the 1.1L is also fed by both a turbocharger and an electrically driven supercharger for an instant-on "torque-fill" effect. Sounds about right, considering that Ricardo engineering is part of the genius behind the McLaren P1.
Perhaps most exciting of all, the Ricardo folks say that the package should run somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,100. A sort of performance-hybrid that makes sense for the frugal driver and the enthusiast one, then. There's a lot more to the HyBoost, all of which can be seen in the video below.

1947 Chevy rat rod pickup leaves rubber and smoke in its wake

Thu, 08 May 2014

Cool comes in multiple flavors. One one hand, we have the sophisticated attraction of svelte design and the efficient use of power. Of course, on the other hand there is the allure of being the bad boy and going against the grain. That is part of the appeal of rat rods. Ideally, they are built without rules to an owner's specific tastes, and this widened and heavily modified 1947 Chevrolet pickup rod is a perfect example of that spirit.
Coming down the highway with a bent grille, rusted body and pouring smoke, it looks like the pickup from hell. It backs up the looks with some very impressive mechanicals too. Owner Troy Gubser says that the truck packs a Ford Power Stroke diesel with to 42 pounds of boost that runs out of 8-inch exhaust stacks at the back. He claims it managed 505 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque on the dyno. To harness all that power, this hot rod has a ZF five-speed manual gearbox with a ceramic clutch and short-throw shifter. Plus, it has cool little features like a doorbell on the tailgate that operates an air horn.
You might not expect a truck like this to actually be useful, but it has a fifth wheel coupling to haul an RV around drag races and car shows. The air suspension also probably keeps the ride fairly comfy when Gubser wants it to be. Scroll down to check out this beastly rat rod pickup and watch it engage in some diesel drag racing. Warning, there is some NSFW language.

Ford looks back on 50 years of the Mustang in Detroit

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

Ford has something special sitting in its booth here at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. In fact, it brought two special somethings in the form of the Ford Mustang 1 Concept that first saw the light of day in 1962 and the very first production Mustang that rolled off the production line in 1964.
These classic creations are sharing floor space with the brand-new 2014 Mustang in honor of the pony car's 50th Anniversary. Since Ford's latest 'Stang already made its auto show debut (at a number of locations, including Los Angeles), we think it's pretty cool that the Blue Oval did something special for its home-town show.
Check out both the Mustang 1 Concept and first production 1964.5 Mustang above and below.
