1931 Ford Model A Pickup

You are looking at a great little rod built in the mid to late 1960’s East Coast style.  It is a steel 1934 Ford cab sitting on a TCI Model A chassis.  It has a heavy 6” channel and no chop.  4" drop I-beam front axle.  The cowl vent was welded shut and a mock gas cap welded in place to make it look like a Model A.  The bed is bobbed with a canvas tonneau cover covering the 17 gallon fuel tank and battery.  The cab and bed were built and painted in the 1970’s and has a great patina that fits the truck perfectly.  Exterior pinstriping has been done on the firewall, around the mock fuel filler, and tailgate.

·        The Chevy 350 was rebuilt by CPR Performance Parts in West Columbia, SC and has an estimated 380HP.  The Accel coil sends spark to a small cap HEI distributor.  The intake is period correct, polished Weiand tunnel ram with a pair of Holley 450s mixing things up.  There is a small Stewart Warner oil pressure gauge near the distributor.  A pair of K&N velocity stacks add a little extra shine to the top of the motor.  Finned valve covers help keep the period look.  The truck runs around 190 degrees F (even in traffic) and around 70-80 lbs of oil pressure consistently.

·        All of this power is mated to a TH400 with a manual valve body and shift kit.  Gears are selected with a Lokar floor shifter.  As you press the accelerator the spent gasses can either be routed through the 2 turbo mufflers under the truck or you can take the caps off the LakeStyle headers.  One ride with open headers will give a smile that lasts for hours!  Going fast is one thing, but stopping is another.  If you can’t control the power what good is it?  Power front disc brakes handle most of the “whoa” duties while the Ford Ranger rear end has drum brakes.  It has an e-brake cable that reaches to the cab, but has not been hooked up.  The truck rolls on a set of old school 14” Cragar S/S rims.

·        The inside has a custom bench seat made from a stretched school bus seat and covered in white roll & pleat vinyl with red piping.  There are 6 white faced Classic Instrument gauges in an overhead console.  Turn signal/high beam indicator lights and the headlight switch are housed overhead also.  The truck was wired from scratch with a fuse box under the dash.  Tasteful pinstriping has been done on the smooth 1934 fiberglass dash and the overhead console.

·        Much of the work was completed by Hot Rod Fabrication in Lexington, SC and I have a stack of receipts from the build.  The "Buy It Now" price is less than I have in it.  The truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early.  $1,000 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction ending.   The port of Charleston, SC is only 2 hours away for overseas shipment.  Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, but I will be happy to work with the winning bidder's shipping company.  Don't bother bidding if you have a poor e-bay rating.  I encourage prospective buyers to ask questions and inspect the vehicle in person or by your representative prior to the end of the auction.  You can call me at (Ate Oh Tree) Sicks Oh Ate - Fife Fife Too Niner (no texts) with any questions or more picture needs.

Ford Transit production fires up, American Pickers among first takers

Wed, 30 Apr 2014

Not long ago, the History Channel showed a seemingly unending stream of World War II documentaries, but it made a switch a few years ago to include an increasing mix of 'reality' programming. American Pickers was one of the early attempts at this new formula, with cameras following hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz around the country in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter as they tracked down collectibles and "rusty gold" for their Iowa shop, Antique Archeology. The show has since gone on to become one of the channel's most popular programs.
Starting in the new episode airing tonight, the affable hosts will swap their Benz for a 2015 Ford Transit, a nicely timed bit of marketing to coincide with the launch of the model's assembly at the Blue Oval's Kansas City Assembly Plant, which also kicks off this week. Ford is touting 2,000 new jobs created as part of its $1.1-billion investment in the plant.
No strangers to product placement, the guys from American Pickers say their switch away from the Sprinter is because they wanted to balance cargo capacity and fuel economy to make the most of their cross-country jaunts. They opted for the largest Transit available with a long wheelbase, extended body and high roof, giving them 487 cubic feet of cargo room. Hauling power comes from a 3.2-liter, five-cylinder diesel engine with 190 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive. Fittingly, the van wears the same Antique Archaeology logo over white paint as their old Sprinter.

Ford reports $3B profit in Q4, $6.9B for the year

Tue, 28 Jan 2014

Good news out of Dearborn today, as Ford announced $3 billion in profit for the last quarter of 2013, a 90-percent increase over the same period of 2012. Net income for all of last year, meanwhile, jumped to $7.2 billion from $5.7 billion in 2012, while pre-tax profits sat at a decade-topping $6.9 billion for all of 2013.
The results of the substantial profit increases are bigger profit-sharing checks for UAW employees. How big? A record $8,800 on average for 47,000 UAW workers, making 2013 the biggest year for profit sharing in Ford history. In total, $414 million will be paid as part of the profit-sharing scheme.
Now, it should be pointed out that a fair portion of Ford's Q4 profits were due to tax benefits, totaling $2.1 billion, according to Automotive News. Total profits would have also been higher, had there not been a significant recall on the Escape, as well as plant issues in South America.

Ford builds USAF Thunderbirds Edition Mustang for charity

Tue, 02 Jul 2013

Each year since 2008, Ford has created a one-off Mustang to celebrate military aviation, and the cars have been auctioned off at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Gathering of Eagles charity event to raise money to inspire the next generation of aviators. This year's charity car is the 2014 Ford Mustang GT US Air Force Thunderbirds Edition, which also helps celebrate 60 years of Thunderbirds air show excellence.
Of all the EAA charity cars, this Thunderbirds Edition is the most in depth. Painted to match the F-16 Tomcat fighter jets used by Thunderbirds, this Mustang also gets a widebody kit and 22-inch Forgiato wheels to go with the cockpit's Recaro bucket seats, rear-seat delete and modified navigation screen and gauge cluster. Even the Mustang's projector puddle lights have been changed to show an aircraft silhouette - rather than the Mustang's galloping horse logo - when the doors are open.
Themes for previous EAA charity cars include the Blue Angels, SR-71 Blackbird and the Red Tails as well as the F-22 Raptor-inspired AV8R and AV-X10 "Dearborn Doll" models. Scroll down for the press release for the 2014 Ford Mustang GT US Air Force Thunderbirds Edition, and be sure to check out our galleries for all six aviation-themed Mustangs.
