This car was built by Altered Image Motorsports in three and a half months. It was debuted at Detroit Autorama 2015 and we took home the Young Gun Award. I have put just over 200 miles on the car in the past 7 days and it has been a blast. This car is very fun to drive and tends to get attention out on the roads. It was built to be driven and that is what you can do with it. The car runs comfortably down the expressway at 70-75 mph at about 2500 RPM's. This was a hole themed build with holes in the frame rails, radius arms, headlight stantions, grill shell, front spring mount, motor mounts, axle, visor, seats, shifter handle, gas and brake pedals, roof support bars and door panel accent. I did tons of bead rolling and dimple dieing on the interior and exterior. The list of aftermarkets and one off parts for this build go on and on. I am 6' tall and I fit in the car very comfortably. With the driver seat being adjustable for someone from 5'6''-6'3''. Here are some of the great features. Exterior: This car was chopped 4'' and channeled 1 1/2''. The exterior was ground down and clear coated with 3 coats of semi gloss clear. The car was an original rumble seat car so the deck lid still latches with the original handle but I did use different hinges. The front grill insert was a main focal point on the car and the tac welded wings also match the seats. The body is in pretty good shape as you can see from the pictures. I didn't fix any dings or dents but I did fix the major rust. Still has some old brazed in spots here and there that I thought gave it a ton of character. The doors open and close nicely and latch with the factory style latches. I used 1''x1'' steel tubing for the roof support and drilled holes in all of them as well. We just had a nice black vinyl top made that you can snap to keep the weather off you. Some other little things consist of tear drop tail lights with smoked lenses, license plate light, and Sylvania Extra Vision headlights. Chassis / Suspension: The frame is custom built 2''x4'' that is Z'd front and rear. The front frame rails start at the firewall as 2''x8'' and taper out to 2''x4'' with holes that step down from 7'' to 3 1/2''. All seams have been plated in 1/4'' plate and it is X'd under the body. This is set up with the suicide front axle just to give it the right look and stance. The front axle is a 4'' Drilled Superbell drop axle, Superbell spring, one off hole themed radius arms, Ford 8.8 rear axle, triangulated 4 link on adjustable coil overs. This is 4 wheel disc brakes with a limited slip carrier and 2.86 gear. Rear axle is rebuilt with all new Timkin bearings and seals. Front steering stabilizer shock and front hardpan bar. Also all the frame and suspension pieces that are are not bare metal are done in POR 15 Chassis gloss black paint. All wiring, brake lines and fuel lines are nicely routed and secured to the frame for a clean look. Motor / Transmission: This has a Crate motor 355 Chevy Small block with a Big Mutha Thumper Cam, hardened pushrods, Meling High Volume oil pump, deep 7 quart oil pan, Comp Cam double roller timing chain, billet timing cover, billet finned valve cover and double shotgun air cleaner, polished intake, Edlebrock 600 cfm manual choke carb, K&N air filter, Weiand aluminum water pump, billet braided oil dip stick, chrome high pressure fuel pump, heavy duty flywheel, 3 HP mini starter, 2'' Gilmer belt drive kit, HEI distributor, black 9.5 mm plug wires, Holley fuel pressure regulator and -6AN fuel lines with black fittings. As for the transmission it is a rebuilt Turbo 400 with a 3200-3500 stall converter, adjustable vacuum module, billet braided tranny dipstick, and billet tranny cooler mounted under the body. The cam sounds great at idle, under load and moving it around. The trans shifts nice and smooth like a new car. The headers were built for the car out of 1 7/8'' tubing, with a 3 1/2''x9'' baffled muffler after the collector and into turn down tips. Car sounds great. Wheels / Tires: The rims and tires are Coker Firestones and these are Bias ply. The rear tires are the 8.20-15 Firestone Gum dipped Dragster slicks. As for the fronts they are the 6.70-15 Firestone Vintage. All four tires are tubeless. The rims are all made by Wheel Vintiques and are a series 12 smoothie. Rear rims are 15x8 and fronts are 15x5. New chrome lug nuts. Interior: One of the main focal points on the interior is the reworked 1956 Ford Dash. The interior has a ton of bead rolling on the floor, tunnel, door panels, inner quarter panels, and seats. Some other little parts are vintage Dolphin gauges (speedometer, volts, temp., oil and fuel), LED turn signal and high beam indicators, cigarette lighter, glove box with locking button, Grant wood grain steering with pull off adapter for easy access, sheet metal bomber seats and the driver seat is on adjustable tracks, black lap belts, and one off door panels to finish it off. This is all wired up with 6 panel fuse block and wiring has been heat shrinked. The doors, gas tank cowl and under side of tunnel have been in sound deadener to quite things up.

Saleen previews new 302 Mustang

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

The introduction of a new generation of a model like the Ford Mustang may be exciting enough in its own right for enthusiasts, but that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, because you know that Ford itself as well as numerous aftermarket tuners will soon follow up with even more desirable versions. And few Mustang tuners carry quite the same clout of Saleen.
Recently reunited after its previous split, Saleen is back on the map and hard at work on new aftermarket modifications for a wide array of muscle cars. We knew it would only be a matter of time before it would release a new 302 Mustang, and now it's sent out the first image to show us what to expect.
Details are scarce, but House that Steve Built says the 2015 Saleen 302 Mustang "is perfectly positioned as the next American exotic." And it should know, considering that it's the same outfit that produced the Saleen S7 that really was a true American exotic. From the teaser image above we can see that Saleen has given its Mustang a new front air dam, a very wide air scoop on the hood and of course Saleen's trademark slat grille.

Ford investing $500M in engine plant for 2.7L EcoBoost production

Sun, 30 Mar 2014

Ohio is a hot area for Ford at the moment with the announcement just a few weeks ago that production of the next-generation F-650/F-750 medium-duty trucks would move from Mexico to the Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio. Now, Ford is investing $500 million to hire 300 workers at its Lima Engine Plant in Lima, Ohio, to add production of the twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 for the 2015 F-150.
The latest investment will be used to add a new flexible engine assembly system and renovate 700,000 square feet of the plant for machining and assembly areas. The Lima factory already builds Ford's 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter Duratec V6 engines. The plant opened in 1957, and it's on track to build its 40 millionth engine later this year.
Ford claims that the 2.7-liter EcoBoost will offer V8 performance with better efficiency in the F-150. It comes standard with intelligent stop/start that doesn't activate when the truck is towing or in four-wheel drive, and it's made from a combination of compacted graphite iron and aluminum for low weight and high strength. The company says that V6 engines have already proven popular in the F-150 with 57 percent of trucks in 2014 being equipped with either the naturally aspirated 3.7-liter or turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines.

2015 Ford Edge holds line on pricing, starts at $28,100*

Tue, 04 Nov 2014

The Ford Edge gets an updated platform, bolder styling and a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine pumping out 245 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque for the 2015 model year. You might expect that all those new features would result in a big price bump, but you'd be wrong. Ford is keeping costs identical to the 2014 model with a starting MSRP of $28,100 (*plus an $895 destination charge), according to Edmunds. Ford spokesperson William Mattiace confirmed the numbers to Autoblog.
That's a pretty good deal, but the real ticket here might be the model's Sport trim. Buyers get a 2.7-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine with over 300 horsepower and standard adaptive steering for $28,600 plus destination. That's just $500 more than the base model.
Pricing for the Titanium trim has not yet been announced, but it'll be a short wait to find out. Mattiace tells Autoblog that full pricing and the configuration for the model will launch on November 5. He has also confirmed that the 2015 Edge will begin hitting dealers in the first quarter of 2015.
