1967 Mustang Fastback with a 385 Series 460 Big block mated to a C6 automatic 3-speed transmission and a 8-inch rear end. Non-matching numbers. No power brakes or steering. The body is very solid with very little rust. Raven Black is not the original color as in some areas Lime Green or Dark Green (Bullitt) is visible. I have owned this car for almost seventeen years and it has been a pleasure to drive. It always attracts attention with "Nice Ride!" comments, and gets plenty of thumbs up when out and about. It's a beautiful example of the best (in my opinion) Mustang years '67/'68, which were three inches wider than 64-66 to accommodate larger engines, yet smaller than 69/70, so they still feel like a pony/sports car, not a large land cruiser. And like the '68, has the true Fastback--all the way down the trunk---a beautiful line seen in profile shots.

My son and I started restoration and upgrading some years back and as life changes quickly, we left it unfinished. I have driven it in the summers for a few months, and have done some occasional upgrades such as having the Holley carb rebuilt, adding a high torque-starter with heat shielding and a Petronix ignition. The interior is stripped down to the metal, because we wanted to check for rust and add rust inhibitor from Eastwood. We also replaced the floor pans which were the only really rusty areas. Water used to come in the vent, run down the cowls and drip onto the floors on these models--hence the clear vent/cowl seal you can see in the photos just in front of the windshield. I replaced the cowls years ago, and kept the vent sealed to prevent further dripping, which is not a problem since I do not have the heater connected and drove only in fair weather anyway. So interior is bare and dash gages are disconnected, wiring harness is in place with the battery in the trunk. We didn't install the 4 point roll bar so it is in the New Parts list.

As far as issues, with cars this old there are always a few:

There are  three small mounting holes in the trunk lid where the Cougar spoiler was mounted. I removed it last year because it detracted from the Fastback smooth line. As it could use some body work or new paint, this is not a big issue.

Some electrical work needed. Headlamps not working, but Fog Lamps are. I have used lighting harness in used parts.

It has always had a drip at the rear seal of the trans, which (the seal) I have had replaced, but it still drips---probably because it's just not driven enough and it dries out.

The rear end housing had a hairline crack in it, which I had welded, but it still drips slowly. I'd just replace it as an engine this size needs a 9-inch rear end anyway!

The engine runs well but bogs just a bit at low RPM during take off--probably because I haven't changed the spark plugs for a long time (it's a challenge the way this monster is shoe-horned it), but once past that she will bury the needle on the speedometer and go well beyond the 120 mark mph--easily--which is quite amazing considering it's a three-speed trans. The 460 has incredible torque, activate the line-lock(roll control) button on the Hurst ratchet shifter, hit the accelerator and she will vaporize the rear tires in a cloud of smoke. I never had the rear end ratio checked so I can't say what it is--somewhere in mid-range I think-- as she both accelerates well and has a good high end, as stated.

That's pretty much it with issues.

The Weld racing wheels need a good polish but are in good condition. The Radial T/A's are in very good condition with maybe 4,000 miles on them.

I was told the Cobra air cleaner is vintage and rare.

It has a Accel SuperCoil, GT style Fog lamps, '69 Cobra Jet hood scoop and shock tower brace and Monte Carlo bar.

Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015

Mon, 10 Feb 2014

Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper.
For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011.
The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors.

2015 Galpin Ford GTR1

Mon, 25 Aug 2014

Last year in Monterey, we met GTR1 for the first time. Galpin Auto Sports pulled the wraps off its Ford GT-based supercar, powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.4-liter V8 good for a whopping 1,024 horsepower and 739 pound-feet of torque. The thing was totally custom-made and reportedly took some 12,000 man hours to create. And there it sat on the Pebble Beach grass, $1,000,000-plus price tag and all.
This year, the Galpin was back, albeit with one big change. That twin-turbo engine? Gone. In its place, a 5.4-liter V8 with a 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger bolted on, delivering an astonishing 1,058 hp and 992 lb-ft of torque on 110-octane fuel. 0-60? 2.9 seconds. Top speed? Somewhere above 225 miles per hour.
"Some things to keep in mind: no stability control, no traction control," were the only warnings given by Galpin's Brandon Boeckmann before taking me on a quick spin in the supercar. And after having my eyes thrown into the back of my skull a few times, laughing hysterically and trying to regain full use of my hearing after my ear drums being bombarded by the apocalyptic roar behind me, Brandon pulled over and said it was my turn, if I was ready to take the wheel.

Petrolicious pays visit to tuning sensation the Ringbrothers

Fri, 08 Nov 2013

We caught up with a few projects from Ringbrothers at SEMA this year: a classic Ford Mustang body rendered in carbon fiber, and a De Tomaso Pantera-based concept that made us swoon.
It's with good timing then, that our friends at Petrolicious have uploaded their newest, well-crafted mini-documentary to the expansive airwaves of the Internet. Here, we meet the brothers Ring in person - Mike and Jim - and see how they've lent they're passion for craftsmanship to their business, along with their surname. A 1964 Ford Fairlane dubbed "Afterburner" and a 1965 Mustang called "Producer" star in this show.
