1948 Ford 'f1' 1/2 Ton Pickup on 2040-cars
Portland, Michigan, United States
1948 Ford 'F1' 1/2 ton pickup. It has the factory 6-Volt electrical sys., 226 cu.in., 6-Cyl., 95 hp, Flathead engine, with 6.8:1 compression ratio, 1 barrel carb. 3.73:1 axle ratio, Non-Synchromesh 4-speed trans. w/granny gear. I have owned the truck for 20 years, purchasing it in August of 1994 from a man who brought it to Michigan from Soddy-Daisy, TN. The restoration was done in 1993, the flat glass was replaced, fiberglass running boards were installed, oak bed boards were replaced and the truck was painted in single stage Black. I've had the carb, brakes, generator and radiator rebuilt, the gas tank dipped & coated. I have added a Dennis Carpenter 'RED' headliner & kick panel kit, beauty rings / hub caps and a quality 'California' brand cover. I have done the standard tune-ups plus changed the hoses and belt through the years but the engine has had ' no wrenching ' , " If it isn't broke DON"T fix it " ! This was an old farm truck in its hay day. The engine runs strong but it is 66 years old. It is wound tight between 50 - 55 mph with the factory 3.73:1 gear. |

Ford Australia pulls the ol' talking car prank
Mon, 07 Apr 2014Siri from Apple has proven that being able to talk to your technology doesn't always work perfectly. But what if it could eventually go far enough to give a personality to inanimate objects like our cars? Ford took just this path to comedic effect by playing a prank on many unsuspecting Australians, in a new commercial for its EcoSport compact crossover.
The Aussies seem very nonchalant about having a random parked car talk to them, and they seem surprisingly game when it asks them to get in, call a celebrity and tell a joke. (We're guessing there are some hilarious outtakes, too.) Scroll down to watch some folks from Down Under have a conversation with Ford's CUV.
Consumer Reports says Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevy are big winners in brand perception survey
Wed, 05 Feb 2014According to Consumer Reports, the automotive brands that stand out in the minds of car buyers are, in order: Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevrolet. This news comes after the magazine polled its readers, asking them to take into account vehicle quality, safety, performance, value, fuel economy, design/style, and technology/innovation - which are the factors that car shoppers are most influenced by.
It's important to note that this award is only about perception. In other words, it's perceived quality, not actual quality. "Often, perception can be a trailing indicator, reflecting years of good or bad performance in a category, and it can also be influenced by headlines in the media," said Jeff Bartlett, Consumer Reports deputy automotive editor.
The brand that made the biggest jump in perception amongst Consumer Reports readers is Tesla, which posted an impressive 47-point gain to finish in fifth place. Subaru is also notable for finishing in the top 10, despite being one of the smaller manufacturers doing business in the US. Scroll down below for all the details from Consumer Reports, if you're so inclined.
Ford Fiesta ST customs get wild at SEMA
Tue, 05 Nov 2013The massive 57-car SEMA showcase by Ford ranges from obvious aftermarket-friendly models like the Mustang, to the not so obvious ones, like the Transit Connect and cute-as-an-explosive-button Fiesta ST. Ford plucked several Fiesta STs for SEMA duty, and we were on the show floor today to get a closer look at some of them.
First up is the striking COBB Tuning and Tanner Foust Racing Fiesta ST (above) finished in a black-and-gray digital camouflage, much like that used in the military, and is meant to raise awareness for the Pat Tillman Foundation. COBB also fitted a three-inch exhaust and a cold-air intake. A new shift knob, carbon-fiber hood and a Kicker stereo round out the mix of upgrades.
MRT got its hands on a Fiesta ST and created a car inspired by Forza Motorsport 5 (below, left). Featuring a two-tone paint job and more performance upgrades than you can shake a stick at, this Fiesta ST is one of the cooler compacts at Ford's stand. A high-performance exhaust system, along with a complimentary COBB induction system, allows the ST to breathe better, while an H&R coil over suspension and Steeda brakes help it stop and turn better than stock.
