This is an almost complete and darn solid 1951 Ford F-1 Pickup project that I am listing for a friend.  I will answer any questions you may have through eBay.  The owner wishes to sell this truck as a COMPLETE PACKAGE.  He is not interested in selling parts until the complete truck is sold, at which time there will be quite a few duplicate parts left over.  The initial buyer will be blessed with first choice on ALL parts, and will receive ONE of each part needed for the project.  (Example: There are two sets of grille "guards", one painted and one chrome.  The buyer gets his/her choice of either set.) Payment of a $250 deposit is required within 48hrs of auction end. PayPal cannot be accepted for anything but the deposit!!  (Please see payment terms)

The entire body has been removed from this truck, the frame cleaned, sanded, primed and painted. The frame appears to be in excellent condition, straight, solid and with no rust. We believe the transmission, differential, axles and springs to be original and all appear to be in very good condition. Braking system is of unknown condition as we have not driven the truck. The cab is loosely attached to the frame for transport.  As shown in the pix, it will require rear corner repair or replacement cab corners.  As far as I can find, this is the only significant body "rot" on the entire truck. The dash is solid and unmolested, the floorboard is solid and the rear of the cab is straight and solid.  The roof is straight and solid except for a small, poorly repaired hole where a CB antenna was mounted. This small hole (1/4") will need repair.  The firewall appears solid and unmolested.  The transmission cover has some rust, but there are two replacements from which to choose.  Door posts and glass frames seem very solid and straight. Front and rear windshield glass is included, but is the original, showing some stains and minor clouding.  No cracks or chips that I could find. Windshield rubber (new) is included.

Motor is the original Flathead V-8 for 1951.  It is believed to be in running condition.  We removed the heads to examine the cylinder walls and piston "slop".  There is very little movement (side to side) indicating the rings are not badly worn. The cylinder walls appeared clean and smooth, with a very minor top ridge. The motor turns over freely and smoothly.  The only missing part (from the motor) of which I am aware is the carburetor. It appeared to be in good condition, so we removed it, wrapped it in oily rags, and put it in a safe place.  If we find it before the buyer takes the truck it will be included.  Please bid with the assumption that you will need a carburetor.  Oil bath air cleaner is included.  New Mallory Distributor cap is included. New points and condenser are included.

The transmission is a three speed, column shift.  We believe the transmission, clutch, pressure plate and shift linkage to be in good condition, but we cannot guarantee this because we have never driven the truck under power.  The transmission shifts in and out of all gears smoothly, and the clutch engages/disengages. The column shifter appears complete and functional.  I believe the column in the truck is a "floor shift" version installed temporarily. The steering wheel is original, serviceable but should be restored.

The front fenders are very solid and straight, but NOT PERFECT!!  Very small "dings" are present, and at the very bottom corners/lips there are small stress cracks and some minor rust.  The smaller (bottom extension) fender pieces are quite solid. If you are familier with these truck fenders you will recognize these as EXCELLENT for used fenders.  All the various components of the front grille, hood shelf, hood latch, radiator support, splash guard, grill guards, park lights, headlight buckets, battery tray, etc. are present and in good, solid used condition. The hood is solid and straight with minor imperfections.  Hood brackets, springs, latches and trim are all included.

Truck doors are VERY solid and straight, with hinges still attached. Hinges have very little play. All 4 pieces of door glass are included, but are the originals with some staining/clouding.  No cracks or chips that I could see.  Metal door insert panels are in good condition.  Window risers and door latch assemblies are present and appear in good condition.  New glass channels are included.   (Note: I only have pix of one door.  The other door is in just the same condition!)  Original window cranks are included, but one interior door handle and one exterior door handle are missing. If we find them they will be included with the truck.

The pickup bed is pretty remarkable.....I don't think I've ever seen bedsides as good as these.  I believe them to be used original parts, but they are amazingly solid and damage free.  The rear fenders are very good, solid originals with minor dings. The tailgate is not perfect, but is solid and very repairable.  The bottom tube needs a little straightening/smoothing but is solid!  The front panel is smooth and solid (very heavy but may be a reproduction). New bed support crossmembers are included.  A complete (NEW) oak bed floor kit (with stainless steel runner strips) is included. (Pix just shows part of the kit.) I think the bolts are missing.

Both the original wiring harness (good original condition) and a high quality new harness are included.  Two very good headlight buckets with inner and outer chrome trim are included. The speedometer and instrument cluster appear to be in VERY GOOD and complete condition. The heater appears complete/solid but is untested. The heavy duty radiator appears in good condition but is untested. Front and rear bumpers and all brackets are in very good condition. The original choke and throttle cables are included, as are the ash tray, cowl vent assembly and HUNDREDS of new and used rubber seals, bushings, gaskets, body shims and small parts are included. Please look carefully at ALL of the pix........most of the available parts are shown, but not everything.

The only parts MISSING from this project truck (as far as we can determine) are the original 16" wheels, the seat, the carburetor and the taillights.  I am NOT a "Ford Expert", so I may have missed something that you need to know.  PLEASE ask questions BEFORE bidding!! Please look carefully at the pictures!!  I have described this truck to the best of my ability, but it is the BIDDER'S RESPONSIBILITY to clarify any confusion or ask any questions prior to entering into a buyer's contract. I will help any way I can!!

The truck is available for viewing and pickup in Hudson, FL  (Central West Coast) or I can deliver for $1.00 per loaded mile. (anywhere in lower 48) If you wish to arrange other transport the owner will help with loading.

NOTE: I could not load all the pix of the smaller parts due to eBay restrictions.  Serious "shoppers" may request extra pix through eBay messages/questions or ask about specific items.  Thanks!

NOTE: The front fenders alone (4 pieces) cost the owner $500, and the Oak Bed Kit lists for about $350...........If you do the math you will see that this rock solid project truck is a STEAL at double the starting bid!!

NOTE: The truck is for sale locally, so the owner reserves the right to end the auction early and cancel any existing bids.  I suggest bidding seriously to eliminate that possibility.

Ford acquires Livio to bolster connectivity biz

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

Ford Motor Company has announced the acquisition of Livio, a Ferndale, MI-based software development company best known for aftermarket in-car connectivity devices, but also as a supplier of technology for proprietary systems for automakers. Livio, co-founded by Sigal and Massimo Baldini, will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Global Technologies.
"With the additional expertise Livio provides us, Ford intends to continue to lead the next generation of in-car connectivity with technology advancements that give consumers more options to access their devices on the go," said Paul Mascarenas, chief technical officer and vice president, Ford Research and Innovation, in a statement.
Ford is clearly trying to beef up its in-house tech capability around telematics and device connectivity. While the Blue Oval has been a leader in these areas with SYNC and MyFord Touch in terms of getting the systems into as many cars as possible, the execution of the applications have been criticized for glitches.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor adds some sport to shake things up

Thu, 27 Jun 2013

Like most quakes, the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor caught us by surprise. We weren't expecting Ford to offer up another version of its best-seller so soon before the truck's full redesign, but that's exactly what the company is doing.
While Ford calls the Tremor a "performance truck," the new pickup doesn't play on the same level as the SVT Raptor does on dirt, or even the long-gone SVT Lightning did on pavement. Think of it as a parts bin sport truck that probably does a better job looking the part than acting it. The Tremor utilizes the same twin-turbo, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 available across the F-150 lineup, producing 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, but matches it with a 4.10 rear axle - the shortest final drive ratio you can get in an F-150 - for the strongest possible acceleration.
The Tremor does do a decent job looking the part. Available only in short-wheelbase, regular cab configuration with your choice of two- or four-wheel drive, it struts around wearing the F-150's FX Appearance Package, flat black accents, 20-inch black wheels, HID headlights and a special exterior graphics package. The Tremor is the only regular cab F-150 with a flow-through center console, which means it also gets a floor-mounted shifter and bucket seats that are covered in black leather with red piping. Some brushed metal accents and steering wheel with red stitching round out the interior upgrades.

Ken Block ain't got a care about ruining his wheels

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

During a drifting session at Irwindale Speedway in California, Ken Block made a boo-boo that would send a number of drivers immediately back to the infield. But there's an answer to "What do you do when you bash the wall while drifting and your wheel explodes?" and there's completely different answer when the question begins with the phrase, "When you're Ken Block..."
Instead of us telling you how Block handled the calamity in his Ford Fiesta competition car, you can watch it happen in the video below. You can probably also guess what it is - but it's more fun to watch.
