This 2001 Ford Ranger XLT is stunning in every way. I get looks, compliments and "thumbs ups" almost daily. It is seriously one of the nicest and most reliable Rangers that I have seen for its age. It has never been abused or neglected, I have babied this truck and kept impeccable service on it. Everything works perfectly. The interior does not smell at all and I don't use air fresheners, it doesn't need them!
It packs a Ford 4.0L SOHC V6 engine with plenty of power, automatic transmission, switch-controlled 4-wheel drive, 4-door extended cab, full power package with power door locks, windows, keyless remote and cruise control, automatic headlights with exit delay, overhead console with dome lights, temperature and compass, front 40/60 cloth seats with console, rear jump seats, passenger airbag switch, tilt steering wheel, chrome bumpers, bedliner with tie-offs, and a sliding rear window. They also have a set of really sharp MB Torque 16" wheels that are not even a year old. Some add-ons that I professionally installed: LED dash illumination lights and indicators, LED dome lights, and HID projector headlights. The lighting modifications have been a great addition to the truck and all use stock parts. The dome light gives out plenty of light at night to see anything inside the vehicle and the dash is a huge improvement over the standard incandescent bulbs. The HID projectors are not the cheap, junky ones you can purchase off of eBay. They are modified OEM light housings with top-quailty projector retrofits. They work normally with the headlight switch just like the OEM lamps. They feature 4300K HID lamps with 35-watt ballasts and REALLY brighten up the night. I don't know why Ford never offered them. I hate to have to sell this beauty as it has been an awesome truck. It is in near mint condition and I have taken excellent care of it during my ownership. How Ford's light lab keeps the sun shining on the new Mustang just right [w/video]
Thu, 02 Jan 2014Anyone who's bought one of those old school metal shift knobs knows they're really cool until they sit in a parking lot in the sun for a few hours. Then they're not cool at all. Likewise, features such as the aluminum dash on the 2015 Ford Mustang can be all kinds of neat right up until the sun hits it just the right way and sends shards of blinding light through the cabin. The Ford Visual Performance and Evaluation Lab is where engineers figure out how to make sure that doesn't happen.
Cars like said Mustang are parked inside the 30-foot reflecting dome under 6,000 watts of lights that can mimic the sun at any time of day and in any weather condition. Engineers can then spend cold, overcast days inside, testing for interior legibility, glare and reflections on every interior and exterior surface as if it were bright and sunny. They can also learn how a car's sheetmetal and colors will look out of doors, all year round.
Ford showed off the lighting lab without the music and interviews three years ago when the Explorer was being prepared. You can watch it at work again in the video below, and read about it in the press release below that.
Ford wins second consecutive International Van of the Year award with Transit Connect
Wed, 18 Sep 2013The redesigned 2014 Ford Transit Connect isn't even on sale yet, but it's already making its presence felt around the world. At a commercial vehicle expo in Russia, the Transit Connect was named the International Van of the Year.
Ford's small work van edged out the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter by just seven points to allow Ford to grab this honor for the second consecutive year, which it won last year with the Transit Custom. Not only does this make Ford the first to ever win the award in back-to-back years, but it's also the fifth time the automaker has won this award since 2003 (two with the Transit Connect, two with the fullsize Transit and once with the Transit Custom). Ford congratulates itself for the accomplishment in a press release posted below.
Ford Focus RS ready to make our hot hatch dreams real
Fri, 17 Oct 2014Ford's current hot hatch siblings the Fiesta ST and Focus ST are already two pretty great entries into the segment, but there's always a desire for a little more. Thankfully, it looks like the Blue Oval is ready to satiate that need because it's continuing to test the even more powerful Focus RS around Europe. According to our spy shooters, these shots come from near the Nürburgring.
As with previous photos, Ford engineers continue to heavily camouflage the front end of the RS prototypes, but there's a big difference here. Unlike earlier ones, this example appears to have a closer-to-production-ready front bumper rather than just a horizontal strip for the license plate. That may point to development getting somewhat closer to wrapping up. Although, this one lacks the larger rear wing from prior testers, and the exhaust also appears to be a work in progress with the rear diffuser covered in mesh in these latest shots.
The RS is rumored to be using the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from the 2015 Mustang, but power is reportedly turned up from 310 horsepower in the 'Stang to somewhere between 325 hp and 350 hp for the Focus. Routing all that just through the front wheels could be a recipe for serious torque steer, and all-wheel drive is potentially being used for better traction.
