The 1955 Ford Thunderbird is another item worthy of the "timeless" designation. This particular '55 is a great example of the exact car buyers originally fell in love with. Dressed in torch red and powered by a 312ci/245hp V8 with a three-speed automatic transmission, the car is great to look at and even better to cruise in thanks to a restoration that didn't overstep its bounds like so many do. If you're looking for a Thunderbird that looks, sounds, and feels authentic, this car is for you! Please note, restorative efforts took place in 2012 when the whole car was torn down and freshened throughout. I would grade the paint on a scale of 1-10 a 9.5, A bright red new vinyl interior offers seating for two with plenty of period-correct charm, I would grade it 8.0, Nicely installed red carpet, 10, matching door panels, 7.0 The dash appears to be original 9.0. Trunk carpet 10. Underneath and the chassis is 9.5 it has been completely been re-done. In my opinion, considering my feedback, this vehicle is a step below show car, and a step above a driver. |

Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls
Tue, 04 Nov 2014
Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
1964 Ford GT40 prototype sells for $7M
Mon, 14 Apr 2014Seven-figure Ferraris are not horribly rare. Heck, an eight-figure Ferrari isn't a rare occurrence. Between modern masterpieces like the Enzo and more classic offerings, cracking the million-dollar mark isn't a particularly tall order for the cars from Maranello. For a Ford, though, it's a big deal.
Now, this is not just some rare Mustang. This is a GT40, the car that Henry Ford II commissioned to whip Enzo Ferrari around a track in France. As far as the Le Mans-winning racers go, they don't get much rarer than this one. Sold at the Mecum Auctions in Houston, this is one of the prototypes, meaning it's one of the very first GT40s ever built. That makes its $7 million winning a bid, a record for on-air coverage of the auction, a pretty darn impressive figure.
You can watch the auction below, but first, take a look back at our original story on this rare Blue Oval.
Project Ugly Horse: Part VI
Thu, 21 Mar 2013Solid axle? What solid axle?
I was fully prepared to embark on a seven-day journey down a rabbit hole of broken bolts, internet hearsay and consternation.
This should not have gone this easily. Having a long and checkered history of simple projects punctuated by much wailing and gnashing of knuckles, I was fully prepared to embark on a seven-day journey down a rabbit hole of broken bolts, internet hearsay and consternation when I finally decided to lay hands on the '89 Mustang with the goal of relieving the car of its stock rear axle. Instead, it took less than a full morning's worth of work to carve the old 7.5-inch solid axle from its moorings and mock up something, well, different.
