Car History
Early in 2004 a Quality Assurance Engineer from North American Aircraft Corporation decided to do a full body-off
restoration on his 1957 Thunderbird.
He proceeded to completely disassemble the vehicle including; removing the engine, transmission, undercarriage
components suspension / steering components and separated the body from the chassis.
The chassis and all undercarriage components were powder coated gloss black. This powder coating included: frame,
suspension components, steering components, brake components and rear axel housing.
After frame was coated, new brakes, brake lines, gas tank and fuel lines were added. The engine and transmission
were professionally rebuilt and assembled into the chassis. The rolling chassis was topped off with four new
chrome Kelsey Hayes type 14 inch spoked rims and new Cooker radial whitewall tires.
The body was sent out for a rotisserie Starmist Blue paint job. After painting, body and chassis were mated at his
workshop. It was later sent out to Prestige Thunderbird, Santa Fe Springs, CA, for a complete new interior, seat
upholstery, dashboard, all panels and a new white top, headliner, glass and associated hardware.
Once back in his garage he proceeded to finish the rest of the restoration process. Unfortunately, The Engineer
fell ill in 2009 and passed away early 2010 without completing his project. The car was covered and in his garage,
where it remained for the next nine years.
Needless to say when I purchased the car in March of 2017, it was not running and many items had frozen over time.
The car had been run at some point during the restoration, as the odometer indicated five miles had been put on the
car. Odometer currently at 110 miles.

Auto industry insider previews tell-all book, What Did Jesus Drive?

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

"It's about some of the biggest crises in history. It's about who did it right and who did it wrong." - Jason Vines
Jason Vines, the former head of public relations at Chrysler, Ford and Nissan, has seen a lot during his more than 30-year career, and now he's offering a behind-the-scenes look at the auto industry in his tell-all book What Did Jesus Drive? that went on sale this month.

2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost already hitting 12-second quarters

Sun, 28 Sep 2014

The arrival of a new Ford Mustang means many things to many people, but not least of them is drag racers. The pony car has always been a mainstay of the drag strip, and the Ford Racing team aims to carry that reputation forward with this latest generation. So it cooked up a few basic modifications on three new 'Stangs and headed to the strips at US 131 and Milan Dragway to see what they could coax out of 'em.
Impressively, the 5.0-liter V8 Mustang GT with a few modifications (but no forced induction) managed to clock a quarter-mile time of 11.77 seconds. Another Mustang GT fitted with a supercharger clocked a blistering 10.97 seconds. But just as intriguing was the modified EcoBoost model that, with only four cylinders and 2.3 liters of displacement, still passed the gates in just 12.56 seconds - nearly half a second better than expected. This with modification limited to a new subframe, half-shaft, drive shaft loops, exhaust, engine calibration, slicks, roll cage and bucket seat. Well done, boys.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit can haul on the track

Tue, 19 Aug 2014

Line up any two comparable vehicles, and eople are going to want to race them. Need proof? In its latest track battle, Auto Express wants to know which commercial vehicle can lap a circuit faster - a Ford Transit or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Let's face it, neither of these European vans were ever meant to be near the track unless they are delivering a racecar and a ton of parts for a fun weekend, but it's massively fun to watch them give it a go anyway.
The one thing that Auto Express really illustrates here is the modern marvel that is stability control. The driver hops curves, and these big vans lean in the corners like your friend walking home from a long night at the bar. However, because of the amazing stability systems, the vans mostly keep all of their wheels planted and never seem close to getting sloppy, despite their behemoth size.
Unfortunately, the two vans aren't exactly fairly paired. The Ford has a dual rear axle and a few other advantages over the Mercedes, but it's still hilarious to watch them go. Even better, the host breaks down everything happening behind the wheel like these commercial vehicles were two Porsches. Enjoy watching this very unorthodox battle between Ford and Mercedes.
