1957 Ford Thunderbird on 2040-cars

Year:1957 Mileage:121972

Onalaska, Wisconsin, United States

After 26 years of owning , driving and enjoying this car we have decided to sell our 57 Thunderbird. I bought this car from a private party and had it restored in 1988. The restoration was done by a well known Ford restoration shop in St Paul Minnesota. Over the years, all the mechanicals were either rebuilt or replaced as needed,  and this included the following: Brakes, exhaust, gas tank , glass, interior, complete body and paint, trim, interior seats , carpet, and door panels. The hardtop and soft top were both restored by Jewels Body Shop in Brillion Wisconsin.  The Y-Block V8 engine and Ford-O-Matic transmission perform very well. I do not know the history or actual mileage of either since they were in the car when I purchased it,  I have not had to do any repairs to either. The car has always started and run smoothly. Everything on the car is original stock condition with only one exception, we had the radio rebuilt and had the radio shop convert the tuning mechanism to include FM stations. The radio looks completely stock but has the capability to pull in either AM or FM channels. All the other gauges work as they should including the clock!  The Wide whitewall radial tires are COKER brand and the battery was replaced last fall. The speedometer reads 21,972 miles. We bought the car in 1988 and at that time the odometer read 89,000. So we have put on about 33,000 miles in 26 years. Most of which was in the first 15 years or so. I kept receipts for the parts and the restoration work that was done on the car and will send along with the car to the new owner.

We have always kept the car stored inside our garage year round and it is driven weekly during the summer and fall months , mainly for fun and cruising enjoyment. We have taken it to many local car events and shows. The new owner will also get the manuals and miscellaneous items shown in the last picture. These include the ORIGINAL FORD DIVISION DELIVERY INVOICE / WINDOW STICKER, dated 10/17/1956, FROM THE DEALERSHIP in Park Ridge , Illinois, Mark Gant Motors, shop manual, concours manuals, electrical and trim manuals. They are all old , but still in good condition.

I have a reserve which I feel is a fair price and reflects the current book value according to the latest OLD CAR's PRICE GUIDE.  This is our first attempt at selling this car.

If you have any questions or want more pictures , don't hesitate to use the ask seller , I will send any and all info to you promptly. If you want to visit us and view and/or drive the car, just email me and we can set up a time to do that. I am retired now and have plenty of spare time for that.

Shipping to your location is the buyers responsibility. Your funds must be wired to my bank before the car is released for pickup.

Shelby GT500 and Roush Stage 3 go head to head at the drag strip

Wed, 07 Aug 2013

The Ford Mustang is a brilliantly affordable source of horsepower, with a base 300-plus-horsepower version available for well under $30,000. Jumping up to about $35,000 will get you a solid 420 horsepower from a high-revving V8, while those with some extra disposable income can get a pair of 600-plus-horsepower monsters. Both the Roush Stage 3 with its Phase 3 package and Ford's factory Shelby GT500 even crest the 650-horsepower mark, with 675 and 662 ponies, respectively.
Naturally, someone needed to find out which of these hi-po Mustangs was the quickest. And while this video is quite obviously a dealership commercial, at least there's some solid drag racing between two of the most powerful performance machines available for under $100,000.
With two NHRA drag racers at the wheel, the Stage 3 and GT500 go head to head for three races. Scroll down below to see the results in the full video.

How and why Ford is rolling out Vignale in Europe

Wed, 09 Oct 2013

We know that Ford is positioning the new, upscale Vignale brand in Europe to fill a niche market of customers who want a bit more luxury, a lot more service and the same reliability and dependability that a non-Vignale Ford offers. But so far, we've been in the dark regarding how the Blue Oval will sell Vignale vehicles, how many of them will be created, and what the new sub-brand has in store for the future.
Gaetano Thorel, Ford's European marketing head, recently was interviewed by Automotive News and shared details about Ford Vignale. Thorel says, "The Vignale trim line will be priced like an ST model but attract a completely different type of customer." Specifically, he says it will attract customers in the upper 15 percent of the price band who don't want a performance-oriented ST model. He adds that Vignale cars will be about 10 percent more expensive than Titanium-trim cars. About 500 of Ford's European dealers will sell Vignale Fords, Thorel says, "in areas that make sense." The automaker expects 10 percent of its European sales to be Vignale cars, which equates to about 5 percent of its global sales. When asked if there are any other Vignale models planned beyond the Mondeo, Thorel said, "There is nothing written in stone yet."

Automakers' rush on aluminum may result in shortage

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

Aluminum is the new buzzword in the automotive industry. The latest Range Rover and Range Rover Sport both take advantage of the lightweight material to shave huge amounts of body fat (only it's called "aluminium" over there). Audi and Jaguar have been using the stuff for years in their A8 and XJ, respectively, and now, aluminum is going mainstream, arriving on the 2015 Ford F-150.
While we're excited to see aluminum make an impact outside the premium market, its widespread adoption apparently won't come without some problems, notably in terms of supply. "There isn't an automotive manufacturer that makes vehicles in North America that we're not talking to," Tom Boney, of Novelis, the largest global supplier of aluminum sheetmetal, told The Detroit News.
According to Boney, Ford's use of aluminum on such a large scale has forced auto manufacturers in "every boardroom" to reconsider their plans following the F-150's unveiling, for one simple reason: there's not exactly enough aluminum to go around, at least in the short term. The auto industry presently only accounts for six percent of the aluminum sheet produced, but as the material is adopted by more and more brands, that figure is expected to swell to 25 percent within the next six years.
