Up for auction is a very nice driver quality 1957 Bird, with only 4 owners. This Little T-Bird runs out grate. Engine has had a fresh tune up, with new plugs, plug wires, cap, Electronic ignition, carb rebuild, oil change, and everything checked as it should. All new brakes have also been installed with new master cylinder, wheel cylinders and souse.  It starts very easy and runs strong, with it's low miles, only 57,508 on this car from new. Everything works on the car but the clock. There is one chip on the windshield but all the rest of the glass is good. Chrome is bright and all panel fits are good. All the books pictured and the original owners manual go with the car. This owner found the car garaged, and not driven for years. He bought it from the daughter of Mr. Pietro and here is how the story go's.

This bright-red 1957 Thunderbird was Pietro's baby. Though he was born in Italy, Pietro was all-American in his choice of cars. The bigger the better, the faster better than that. This classic-Bird was his favorite.

Pietro became the car's third owner when he bought it in 1981. It had been painted red shortly before or after the sale - family members cannot remember and there is no documentation - but otherwise, Pietro kept the original intact other than the color which was originally (Willow Green.)

The car is a Thunderbird 312 Special V8 245 HP, 312 CI, Fordomatic, with power steering and power brakes; 57,508 original miles. It has a cream-colored hardtop with the classic porthole window. It includes a rare, optional automatic seat adjustment control. The interior is complete, with working AM radio, forced air heating system, etc.

The exterior finish has some chips and imperfections and a new owner will want to repaint it. The interior is in excellent condition.

Pietro died in 1989 and the car passed to his daughter who has kept it garaged and well maintained. It remains a fun driver, perfect for a summer-evening's trip to the Dairy Queen or a cruise along a back country road. The V8 purrs like a kitten - a big, powerful kitten.

This is a great driver not a show car. It has had no damage and has no rust. With new paint it would be a jem.

Buyer is responsible for shipping and all shipping costs. We will help with loading on our end and in anyway we can. I'm listing this little Bird for a friend and will take all questions to him. For more information please call Bill (208)750-0000

Jurassic Park made a big impact on these Jeep drivers

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

For a certain cohort of young folks, Jurassic Park is a touchstone film from their childhood. Not only did it play into practically every little boy's love of dinosaurs, the movie included some great action scenes and special effects that still hold up today. In its latest video, The Aficionauto takes a look the Jurassic Park Motor Pool, a California car club with over 40 fans who created replica vehicles from the iconic film.
The club is made up of an interesting cross-section of people. Many of them were Jeep Wrangler fans that already loved off-roading and Jurassic Park, and liked the idea of bringing them together. Like any close-knit club, it ends up being about community and people coming together to share their interests. It's quite a heartwarming video. Also, be sure to stay until the end because The Aficionauto teases a future Jurassic Park-themed vehicle. Scroll down to check out the motor pool.

Autocar pits Formula Ford against Germany's finest

Wed, 25 Sep 2013

Ford has quite the racing pedigree, but usually, its racers are relegated to the track. Not the new Formula Ford EcoBoost, though. It's a turbocharged, open-wheeled racer complete with a 200-horsepower, 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine... and it's legal on the roads of the UK.
That's stressed in this video from Autocar, with the mag going so far as to show the car's tax disc and license plates. Being a road-legal offering, it's tempting to see just how well an open-wheeler that delivers racecar-like performance while also netting over 100 miles per gallon (assume this is on the British cycle, for obvious reasons) stacks up against modern performance cars.
Autocar lined up the Formula Ford against an Audi R8 V10, a BMW M6 Gran Coupe and a Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG in a number of situations to see which would come out on top. Take a look below for the full video.

Ford taken to task by gov't for Chicken Tax end-around

Mon, 23 Sep 2013

Ford is in a bit of a pickle for importing and selling Turkey-built Transit Connect cargo vans as passenger vehicles in the US, then converting them to commercial-vehicle specification stateside in an effort to bypass a 25-percent tax imposed on vehicles imported for commercial use. Automakers are required to pay a 2.5-percent tax on imported passenger vehicles.
The Blue Oval got into trouble for this in a January ruling in which U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials asked Ford to stop the practice of importing the Transit Connect vehicles with passenger seats, then removing and shredding them. Now Automotive News reports that Ford is appealing the ruling. The 25-percent "Chicken Tax," as the tariff is often called, is 50 years old and was enacted as a response to a German tariff on chickens. Like Ford, Chrysler bypasses the higher tariff, but it does so in a different manner. It partially disassembles Sprinter cargo vans before shipping them to the US, then rebuilds them at a plant in South Carolina.
But the ruling against Ford's strategy states that it "serves no manufacturing or commercial purpose" and is there to "manipulate the tariff schedule," Automotive News reports. As Ford's appeal goes through, it is importing the Transit Connect and paying the higher tax, hoping for a favorable outcome and planning to build the next-generation Transit Connect, which it plans to launch before the end of the year, in Spain.
