Cool.

Very Cool.

Stone. Cold. Cool.

Doesn't matter if you are trying to be THE MAN, or THE WOMAN.

That's what you BECOME in this very rare, original unmolested automobile in Thunderbird Green, with very special options.

Why is this a special car?

1.  It is 100% original. Period.

2.  1956 is the rarest year of the 1st Generation Thunderbird Class. ("55-'56-'57) Fewer 1956's were made than any other year.

3.  The Avocado green color was THE color of the Modern 1950's sophisticated and forward thinking automobile buyer. Very Avant Guarde. This color defined an entire era. Absolutely Visionary. A few years later, you could get a kitchen appliance in this color, and a few years after that you could get your entire kitchen in this color. But in 1956, this Avocado color, known to Ford as Thunderbird Green, or sometimes referred to as Sage Green, was done only here, in the Ford Thunderbird. Only 600 were made in this special color, out of 15,000 plus cars made. That's less than 4% of the 1956 Thunderbirds that were made in this special color combination.

4.  This is the real deal. It has not been re-painted, re-imagined, re-accessorized. It's just as it rolled off the assembly line. Most of the paper labels are still on the hoses and engine parts.

5.  In 1956, the Hardtop was an option, and the Opera Window in the Hardtop was an additional option. Special, Rare, Cool.

6.  In 1956, in order to increase the space in the trunk,  the spare tire was moved to a position on the rear bumper in what was later to be known as a Continental Kit. They should have called it the 1956 Thunderbird Kit, because it never looked better on any car, anywhere, in any year. You can't get that on the 1955 or the 1957, unless the car has been messed with. That's why the 1956 is So Very Special in Thunderbird history.

7.  It has the power steering, power brakes, telescopic steering wheel, Ford-O-Matic, and especially the hot 312 c.i. engine with the 4-bbl carb, but not the too-hot dual 4-bbl carb. There are very few of the dual 4-bbl that survived the first 10,000 miles. The dual 4bbls were hot rodded without mercy trying to keep up with the Corvette of the next few years. But that was not the purpose of the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird was build as a personal luxury statement car, not as a racing car. Those who understood this did not but the Thunderbird with dual 4-bbl carbs. That's one of the reasons this specimen survived.

No disappointments here. No Rust Ever. Just a very nice car kept in a very nice heated garage for its entire life. Probably the finest totally original 1956 'Bird in the country. Some like this have sold for over $80,000 at the big auctions. As a bonus, this one is in the famous and rare Thunderbird Green, which inspired an entire "avocado" generation of design in late 1950's and 1960's home decor. If you are looking for a collectible car which is also an artistic and design milestone, this is the automobile for you. It is literally the kind of car that an artist who understands the importance of the 1950's in the world of design might keep in their living room. On the other hand, you will probably want to drive it, especially on those hot August nights.

If you are the person who feels drawn to this automobile, you will never have to apologize for this purchase.

Bid with confidence.

New Info:

In answer to some questions:

Yes, I have more pictures. Just email a question and ask.

Yes, the car is available for inspection or mechanical review in the quaint retirement community of Grove, Oklahoma on beautiful Grand Lake of the Cherokees. We have a lake cabin available for the overnight stay of qualified bidders who are inspecting the car.

No, we won't be revealing the reserve at this point. Here's why. The reserve could be reduced or lifted at some point in the auction, and we don't want to publish a number that might not be accurate later on in the auction. However we will say that the car is priced such that the new buyer will be smiling.

Ford brings FPV Falcon production in house [w/video]

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

For the first time since 1976, Ford of Australia is bringing the assembly of its stonking Ford Performance Vehicle line back in-house to the company's Broadmeadows and Geelong facilities. That's a point of pride for FPV, which builds high-performance versions of the Australian Falcon model like the F6, GS and the heroic GT seen here.
In the video below, we hear FPV employees talking in hushed tones about the important legacy that cars like the GT have for Australian gearheads of all stripes, and how proud they are to say that hand-built machines like this GT R-Spec with its Boss 355 engine are now rolling out of their home base. For our part, we're just dying to drive this version of the Coyote V8; the engine is rocking a "Miami" supercharger from Harrop and makes some 450 horsepower.
Continue on below for the video, or you can check out some images of the new FPV at the facility, as well as a gallery of the GT R-Spec car.

Ford shows off V8-powered Ranger headed to Dakar Rally

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

Avert your eyes now if you're jealous that the global version of the Ford Ranger is not offered in the US. Ford's midsize pickup is being tuned up to take on the 2014 Dakar Rally, and the result is a truck that is probably even cooler than any F-150 SVT Raptor we've ever seen in the States. Ford is actually building two versions of the truck for Dakar, which will run from January 5 through January 18, covering more than 5,000 miles from Argentina to Chile.
Starting with a fully composite body and a 5.0-liter V8 plucked from a Mustang, nearly every aspect of the trucks have been purpose built to take on the grueling race. This includes things like the six-speed sequential gearbox, liquid-cooled rear brakes and the 132-gallon fuel tank. As proof that Dakar is more about endurance than speed, the engines used in these race trucks will be limited to around 350 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, and will max out at a top speed of just 105 miles per hour. Scroll down for Ford's official press release offering more information about the trucks and teams being prepped for Dakar.

Four Wheeler crowns Ultimate Factory 4x4... who wins?

Thu, 15 Nov 2012

Nearly every automaker doing business in the SUV or pickup truck segments offers a package designed to improve the off-road capabilities of its wares. But, of course, not all such factory kits are created equal. How, then, to separate the wheat from the chaff? Gather each of them up and put them through their paces, naturally.
The folks from Four Wheeler and PickupTrucks.com joined forces to run just such a comparison test, with the winner named the Ultimate Factory 4x4. A total of seven vehicles showed up to the fight: the 2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, 2012 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X and Xterra PRO-4X, 2012 Ram Power Wagon, and 2012 Toyota 4Runner Trail and Tacoma TRD T|X Baja Series.
With the contestants in place, the whole crew put each vehicle through a battery of tests that included skidpad and acceleration measurements, a hillclimb, a rocky stairstep course and a rock garden. Considering the nature of the beasts, on-road ride and comfort were not part of the routine.
