The S-10/S-15 were introduced to replace the Chevy LUV/Isuzu P'up trucks; the engine itself is the same engine offered in that line.  The transmission is a stronger Borg-Warner 5-speed (rather than the Isuzu unit) with the GM hydraulic clutch. This one has been a project of mine; I'm parting with it because I injured my knee and have been off work for 4 months.  It's a no-frills base model truck - rubber floor, no headliner, no a/c, roll-up windows and manual locks - it appears that in a past life it was a part of a fleet, or a company truck.  There is an aftermarket, detachable-face stereo installed.  Because I don't think the truck came with a radio, there's no antenna+.  I do have an antenna cable and base to hook up, just never got around to it.   The interior is worn, but decent. The dash has cracks typical of a 29-year-old truck, and the seat has a few worn-through spots.  I have been driving the truck around town, and it's been great.  It gets 30 mpg reliably.  It cruises well at 55-60 mph, but struggles over that due to the lower gearing of the transmission, especially into a headwind.  Installing new rear shocks helped with the highway drive-ability, but the bad front shocks make it a little sketchy over bridges or railroad tracks. When I bought it, there was a very pronounced vibration in the steering wheel.  I had the front wheels balanced, and that helped.  The shop that did the balancing also said the tie rods and ball joints are good, but the idler arm could be replaced.  The odometer has been rolled - previous owner thought only once.  The gauges work (speedometer and fuel gauge), with warning lights for battery, temperature, oil pressure, and seat belt. Here's a further breakdown of what's been done and what's needed:

The Good:
- New Rear Shocks, anchor plates, and hardware for mounting suspension to axle housings
Shocks came from previous owner, hardware from LMC Truck
- New Vacuum Pump
- New Alternator
- New Battery
       Have all receipts
- Power Steering works well
- 2-speed wipers and washer fluid jets all function.

The Bad:
- Typical rust around bed wheel arches, driver's side rocker panel and cab corners.
- Clutch cylinder leaks
- Needs front shocks
- Idler arm could be replaced
- Parking brake cable is worn, and hangs when engaged.  It works, but sometimes it doesn't let go when the release is pulled
- Left turn signal does not return with the steering wheel as the right signal does.

The unusual, all done by previous owner:
- Manual glow plugs
Rewired glow plug circuit to push button below the steering column.  The original drop resistor is still used, so only 6.5 volts go to plugs
- Electric fuel pump and inline filter added under driver's side cab
- Stock fuel filter head removed, clear fuel line and inline filter under the hood
- Stock horn replaced with Ahooga horn

Other items included in auction:
- Replacement door weatherstripping
- Stock fuel filter head and water-in-fuel sensor (filter pictured is used)
- Trailer plug harness
- Factory GM Service Manual

2015 Chevy Colorado to start at $20,100*, GMC Canyon at $20,995**

Tue, 05 Aug 2014

General Motors has just announced pricing for its new midsize pickup trucks, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Chevy's truck starts at $20,100, *not including $895 for destination, and the GMC starts at $20,995, **not including $925 for destination. These prices are for the base, extended cab models with the 200-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine.
Comparatively, these prices fit nicely with the $18,125 starting MSRP of the Toyota Tacoma and the $21,510 of the Nissan Frontier. Compared to the Colorado, the Canyon's extra $895 gets you niceties like LED running lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a four-way power driver's seat.
Both trucks come standard with the 2.5-liter engine, and a more powerful, 305-hp 3.6-liter V6 will also be available. Pricing has not been announced for the upcoming diesel model, which is expected to launch for the 2016 model year.

GM issues stop-delivery for 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon

Fri, 03 Oct 2014

General Motors is issuing a stop-delivery order for its latest midsize pickups, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, because the driver's side airbag might not be wired correctly. The total number of vehicles affected is still being determined.
According to the statement from GM, the problem, "affects the vehicles' two-stage airbag system by reversing the deployment sequence and disrupting the deployment timing of the driver airbag stages." That means in an accident the bag may not work correctly.
Most of the affected trucks are still on the assembly line, in transit or unsold at dealers, says GM. Until a way to repair the problem is found, customer deliveries are stopped. However, "a small number" of them are in the possession of buyers. GM is contacting these people by phone and by FedEx letter to have the vehicles returned to dealers. In the meantime, they'll be given a loaner to drive.

GM able to add diesel to half-ton pickups if market demands it

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

A few years ago, the trend in half-ton pickup trucks was ultra-luxurious trims, often with the words "limited" or "platinum" tacked on after the model name. That was well and good, but we like this latest fad a lot more - diesel engines. First, Ram came to bat with a 3.0-liter, V6 turbodiesel for the 1500, then Nissan announced that the next-generation Titan would be getting an eight-cylinder Cummins diesel.
Now, word is coming in from AutoGuide that General Motors can, if it so chooses, drop a diesel engine into its light-duty trucks. The plot thickens, though, as it turns out that said diesel would be the same one Ram is using for its truck. According to AG, that engine comes from VM Motori, which GM owns a sizable chunk of. Therefore, GM can snag the 3.0-liter, V6 diesel for its trucks just as easily, if not more easily, than Ram.
If it's so easy for the Detroit-based manufacturer to access the engines, why not offer the a diesel-powered Sierra and Silverado from the start, then? According to GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson, The General doesn't seem so confident in a diesel pickup outside of its HD offerings. According to Wilkinson, the cost-benefit ratio doesn't line up for customers, thanks to both the impact on the truck's sticker price and the higher price of diesel, in general (the national average for a gallon of diesel is 43 cents more than a gallon of 87-octane unleaded).
