 Honda Accord
Honda Accord EX-L 2014, like new, selling due to company providing a car.   Car looks new, champagne red, palomino colored leather, non-navigation model, no dents, dings, scratches, always driven with exceeding care, mileage represents about 5000 highway miles per month.   Purchased first day of March.   All accessories shown on invoice sheet.   All oil changes performed as scheduled with Mobil One synthetic oil.  24700 miles

Car is in pristine condition and very well taken care of.

Fuel Economy

This car achieves respectable gas mileage for a midsize sedan, at an overall 31 MPG (55% weight given to city MPG of 27, and 45% weight given to highway MPG of 36). This means it is 6.9% more fuel efficient than its similarly-sized peers. Assuming 15,000 miles driven annually (55% city driving and 45% highway driving), and an average gas price of $3.70 per gallon, fuel costs will add up to $1,790.32 per year.

Range

During city driving, Accord owners can expect to cover about 464 miles on the 17.2 gallon tank, 38 miles more than the class average. On the highway, a maximum range of 619 miles is right on par with rival sedans.

Drivetrain

This model is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.4L Inline-4 engine, sending power to the front wheels through an automatic transmission. Its 185 horsepower is adequate, but nothing to boast about (the average 2014 midsize sedan has 182 HP). As for low-end grunt: in a class where 184 ft-lbs is the norm, torque meets expectations, at 181 ft-lbs.

Real-World Acceleration

Absolute horsepower numbers only paint part of the picture when it comes to how quickly a vehicle can accelerate. Extra weight hinders straight-line performance, which is why auto experts often refer to the power-to-weight ratio for true apples-to-apples comparisons. This model's ratio of 18.2 lbs/HP is an ordinary number (the segment average is 18.5), making it roughly as quick as the average sedan in its class.

Driving Dynamics

Independent of power, curb weight (weight of the ready-to-run car with a full tank of gas) offers hints at vehicle performance. Lower weight generally translates to shorter stopping distances, better handling, and higher cornering limits. Knowing this, keep in mind that this car is similarly heavy to other midsize sedans in the 2014 model year.

NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.

Senna's McLaren drives Honda up the wall

Wed, 11 Sep 2013

Honda is getting excited for its imminent return to Formula One with McLaren. So excited, in fact, that it got its new/old friends from Woking to loan it one of its old F1 cars. But not just any old F1 car...
On display at the Honda stand in Frankfurt this year is the 1988 McLaren MP4-4 in which the legendary Ayrton Senna drove to fifteen out of sixteen grands prix that season to take the championship in spectacular style.
Honda provided the engine for that car, a 1.5-liter turbo V6 with upwards of 600 horsepower to propel less than 1,200 lbs. Of course this being a static display car, it's likely been stripped of its engine, gearbox and most other internal mechanical components. But that doesn't make the sight of it any less memorable.

Honda recalls 2012-13 Fit Sport models over stability control issue

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Honda is recalling 43,782 examples of the 2012 and 2013 Fit Sport in the US and close to 2,000 more in Canada. During federal compliance testing it was discovered that the software for the Vehicle Stability Assist allows an excessive tilt angle before applying the brakes to prevent a crash. The issue only affects Fit Sports equipped with a certain kind of tire.
Honda will notify owners in mid-May, at which time owners can take their cars to dealers to have the stability control software updated free of charge. There's a press release from Honda below with more details.
