1994 Honda Civic Vx - Cannot Smog In California on 2040-cars

Year:1994 Mileage:324473
Location:

Shingle Springs, California, United States

Shingle Springs, California, United States

I am selling my Honda Civic VX because it will not pass CA smog testing due to a cracked exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold is California-specific and is unique to the VX and CX Civics which makes the part relatively rare, and as a result I've been unable to find a replacement part; the manufacturer has discontinued it, no aftermarket company offers it, and I was unable to find any used replacements.

You may have better luck or more patience finding a good CA-specific manifold. Or, since there are many other Civic engines that would fit into the VX, you could swap in a different engine. The VX is very light (300lbs lighter than the Si HB) that with a different engine it would perform really well. Yet another option would be to take it out of state; the non-Cali parts (new and used) are much more abundant.

The previous owner was the original owner and used it to commute ~100 miles per day on the freeway.  The car still runs great; last timing belt change was at 300,000; last oil change was about 200 miles ago, and coolant was replaced about 100 miles ago.  No leaks, no overheating, and negligible oil consumption (about 1/2 to 1 quart per oil change).

The car is being sold as-is; this is your chance to get a legendary fuel miser (I averaged 50mpg during the time that I drove it) for little money and a little work.

Thank you for bidding.

Pros:
  • AC works (blows cold) + heater works
  • Starts and runs great, even with the cracked manifold
  • Amazing Fuel Economy without the expense or complexity of a hybrid
  • Not riced/hacked
  • Minimal surface rust
  • Includes MPGuino (small computer for tracking fuel economy)
  • Includes factory service manual
  • Includes both California and Federal ECUs (Federal is installed right now)
  • Includes 4 wire and 5 wire (installed) O2 sensors
  • Includes passenger side mirror and passenger mirror block off (installed)

Cons:
  • As mentioned, cracked exhaust manifold so it cannot be smogged in California unless a replacement part is found and installed
  • Intermittent speedometer/odometer
    • The odo shows 324,473 miles; another ~30K to 40K miles have been added since the odo went out
  • Some dents because tree branch (see pictures)
    • A tree branch fell on the car in 2009, denting the roof and the passenger-side area around the hatch
  • Only one speaker works
  • CV joint boots torn; probably needs a CV joint rebuild as it's making noise while turning
  • Drivers seat bolster torn

Honda recalling 25k Odyssey minivans over side curtain airbags

Fri, 02 May 2014

Honda's refreshed 2014 Odyssey (now with 100-percent more vacuum power!) launched last year, but is now being called back for issues related to the side curtain airbags. According to Honda, 24,889 Odyssey minivans are affected by an issue that may cause the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning light to illuminate or, even worse, cause the side airbags to not deploy in a crash.
What went wrong, exactly? We'll let Honda explain:
During assembly of the electrical coupler for the side curtain airbag on the passenger's side of the vehicle, it is possible that the shorting terminal, which is used to prevent deployment of the airbag before it is assembled into the vehicle, may have been damaged. A damaged shorting terminal may illuminate the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) indicator as well as prevent the side curtain airbag from deploying during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Honda Vezel leaked in Mugen trim

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

Just last month at the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda revealed its new Vezel crossover, a production version of the Urban SUV concept that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show. According to new reports, the model already has a three-month waiting list in Japan alone. But that doesn't mean Honda's tuning division, Mugen, is waiting around to spruce it up.
Pictured here is the Mugen-tuned version of the Vezel leaked from a sales brochure in Japan. While there's not much information to go on, Mugen's take on the Vezel appears to be wearing a custom aero kit, with more pronounced lower bumpers and side sills, a more Acura-like grille treatment and different wheels.
Whether we'll ever get a Mugen package like this when the Fit-based CUV arrives in North America remains to be seen, but we've historically gotten very few of these tuned-up Hondas. In fact, we're still not even sure what the tiny crossover will be called when it arrives here, but something tells us it won't arrive carrying the Vezel moniker.

Honda Civic Tourer caught testing ahead of 2014 launch

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

Honda showed off its Civic Tourer concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and at that time, we were told that a production version would be coming to market in the very near future. Obviously, the sleek lines of the concept car will be dumbed down slightly for consumers, but that doesn't mean the Civic wagon will be a bland machine. The Euro-spec Civic's angular front end looks like it will blend nicely with the rakish rump that we saw on the concept.
Our sources suggest that not only will the Civic Tourer be a class-leader in terms of cargo capacity, but it will likely be a pretty engaging car from behind the wheel, as well. Honda is hoping that the Tourer will account for roughly 20 percent of all European Civic sales after it goes on sale.
Expect to see the production car debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, with the first customers taking delivery in early 2014. In the meantime, have a look at the camouflaged swoopy wagon from all angles in our gallery above.
