2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

I hit a patch of ice and spun into a guardrail a week ago. The front end was damaged and the 2 front airbags deployed. The frame in the front needs to be straightened somewhat, but the front wheels and the suspension seem unaffected. The engine was not hit. The engine starts and runs fine with no check engine light. I have been running the engine every day to keep the engine and IMA battery healthy. It appears that with a little work on the frame in front the car could be fine. I just don't have time to work on this now. The car has a clean title and is ready for immediate purchase. (I didn't have collision insurance on this car so the insurance company never looked at it, and I didn't cancel the CT registration after the accident because I planned to fix it.)

This car has a new IMA (hybrid) battery that was installed just over a year ago in the fall of 2012. The battery is still under warranty for almost 2 more years and the warranty is transferrable. Please see bumblebeebatteries.com for more info.
I will also include a wiring harness to connect this battery to the Genesis One grid charger. The harness hasn't been installed yet but it's easy to do. The IMA battery and charging harness together cost about 2300.

Other features of the car:
• JVC HD radio and CD player
• 5 speed manual transmission
• new seat covers and floor mats
• clean interior, no rips or stains
• good tires with lots of tread left
• new 12 volt battery installed just a month ago
• always very well maintained with regular oil changes
• there are video monitors and a CD / DVD player in the 2 headrests for entertainment in the back seat
• antenna for sirius satellite radio on the roof
• includes the official (green) Honda repair manual for this car which costs $100
• the car gets great gas mileage--50 mpg on the highway if you drive carefully

Parts that will need to be replaced to drive the car:
• front windshield (broken by the airbag)
• the 2 front airbags
• radiator and oil cooler
• front bumper and grill
• A/C and water pump belt
• splash shields under the engine
• headlights

$2600 or best offer. I would like to move this quickly.

Scion FR-S pitted against oldtimers RX-8 and S2000

Tue, 07 May 2013

There are very few vehicles available today that compare directly with the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ twins. A case could be made for the Mazda MX-5 Miata, and possibly even six-cylinder versions of American coupes like the Ford Mustang. Pretty much everything else is either too expensive or is powered by the wrong set of wheels.
The boys from EverydayDriver on YouTube decided the only fair way to judge the inherent qualities of the Toyobaru twins was to pit them against two standard-bearers of years past: The Honda S2000 and Mazda RX-8. Neither of these cars is an exact matchup, with the Honda boasting a convertible top and the RX-8 offering more practicality via a rear seat and two reverse-opening doors for easier access. What they do offer, however, are similar performance stats and proven reputations for excellent handling.
None of this talk answers the real question, though: Which one wins the comparison test? Scroll down to watch the video, and be prepared for something of a surprise conclusion.

Former Honda CEOs chide current boss about quality

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

Taking charge of a major corporation will never be without its challenges, and one of those - as Honda CEO Takanobu Ito is finding out - is filling the big shoes of those that came before. Ito's predecessors are apparently not pleased with what he's doing to the company, and are wasting no time in telling him so.
According to Reuters, two former Honda chiefs have recently visited Ito (pictured above with his predecessor Takeo Fukui) to talk to him about the Japanese automaker's quality issues, which they apparently regard as eroding the company's image. Nobuhiko Kawamoto, who served as CEO from 1990-98, reportedly came to Honda headquarters in Tokyo to deliver "stern words" to Ito last month. Kawamoto's immediate successor, Hiroyuki Yoshino, reportedly met with Ito under similar circumstances earlier this year.
Kawamoto and Yoshino are part of a larger group of former Honda executives who are concerned with the declining quality of the company's products under Ito's leadership. Where Honda once focused more on quality, collaborating more closely with parts suppliers, more recently the company has, in the eyes of those former executives at least, shifted its focus to quantity and to new technologies. That's what, the report alleges, has led to Honda recalling so many of its vehicles in recent years.

Honda recalling 204k CR-V, Odyssey, Acura RDX models over rollaway risk

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

Honda has announced a recall over a possible rollaway risk that affects 204,169 crossover and minivan models. The specific vehicles in question are the 2012-13 Honda CR-V and Odyssey, as well as the 2013 Acura RDX.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "the brake-shift interlock blocking mechanism may become slow and allow the gear selector to be moved from the Park position without pressing the brake pedal." In other words, these vehicles could unintentionally roll away.
NHTSA states that this scenario may only happen during sub-freezing temperatures, but notes that this means the vehicles fail to conform with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114: Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. Honda will notify owners of the problem, and dealerships will install an updated interlocking mechanism free of charge.
