Hi,
Up for bids is my RESTORED 1994 Honda Del Sol Si. It has a 127HP SOHC D16Z6 VTEC engine. The engine and transmission now work perfectly with very smooth and brisk power delivery. The car is a restored FLORIDA car that is RUST FREE and DENT FREE. It was purchased four years ago from a dealership in Sarasota, FL and then driven by me back to Ohio. It was parked for the first two Ohio winters and then occasionally driven in the next two Ohio winters. Two years ago, I had the car repainted at MAACO due to a substantial fading of the paint from the intense Florida sunlight. The paint level chosen was MAACO's top-of -the-line "original factory quality" basecoat plus clearcoat. The repainting cost nearly $1000. I'm selling the car because I recently bought a newer car and I don't need an extra car. I believe that this automatic transmission Del Sol is preferable to the manual transmission version since the gas mileage is still very good (about 35 mpg) and it is much more comfortable and convenient for city driving. Further, it eliminates the possible cost of a worn out clutch replacement which would cost about $700 to $900. Also, I believe that the 1994 version of this car is also much more preferable than the 1993 version because it has BOTH a driver's and a passenger's airbag and because the air-conditioning uses the newer R134A refrigerant as opposed to the older and now obsolete R12 refrigerant. The car also includes a fully working cruise control. EVERYTHING WORKS ON THE CAR (except for the Pioneer CD stereo's "eject" function). A CD can be removed if one carefully grabs the partially ejected CD with one's fingertips. This is a ONE TIME NO RESERVE auction. This car will not be re-listed. Don't miss this rare opportunity!!!

During the last month or so the following maintenance was done to the car to make the car great for the next owner:
1) Installed a new Bosch oxygen sensor (and a new standard exhaust manifold) to make the engine run much more like it did when the car was new (much smoother idling, more power, lower emissions, better MPG)
2) Installed a new radiator since the existing one had a slow leak and was corroded
3) Installed a new high pressure air-conditioning hose between the compressor and the condenser since it was leaking refrigerant, then recharged the AC with R134A. The AC is now ICE COLD and no further leaks have been detected
4) Installed new door key lock cylinders and had the cylinders keyed so that they use the existing (ignition and trunk) key. The key locks work very easily and perfectly now, just like a new car!!!
5) Installed a new driver's side power window motor to restore normal window operation
6) Installed two new high quality P185/60/R14 front tires (and had a front end alignment done) that match the same one year old (like new) rear tires.
7) Installed a new rubber valve cover gasket (it does not leak now)
8) Installed new "Civic" and "del Sol" decals on the back of the car
9) Installed a new oil dipstick
10) Installed a new FRAM oil filter and changed the oil to Mobil 1 synthetic (high mileage) oil.
11) Very thoroughly cleaned the inside, both door jams, trunk, and alloy rims and tires.
12) Very thoroughly hand washed the car and then hand waxed and buffed the car (with Turtle Wax)
13) Installed new pre-owned but very good quality OEM cloth seats (which have no rips).
14) Installed new aftermarket floor-mats
15) Installed a new steering tie-rod end. (The front end is now very tight, with very little vibration. and the car drives very straight!!!)
16) Installed a new rubber brake pedal cover
17) Replaced the worn out particle board underneath the trunk liner with a sheet of 3/16" thick plywood cut to the correct size (30" x 32").
18) Cleaned the front and top of the engine with an aerosol spray can of engine cleaner
19) Spray painted black the metal windshield wiper arms and the trim strip behind the rear window. The rear trim was masked off and the wiper arms were removed during the painting.
20) Installed new license plate bolts for both front and rear plates
Previous maintenance:
Four years ago: installed a new starter, new fuel filter, new Bosch platinum 2+ spark-plugs, new air filter

Two years ago: installed a new battery, installed a new muffler (still in good condition), replaced the connecting rod between windshield wiper motor and windshield wipers (due to a worn plastic ball joint), replaced the plastic pad on the brake pedal arm that presses against the brake-light switch. Replaced front brake-pads. Replaced the hood with a NEW hood (before repainting the car) because of a dent in it. Installed very good quality Michelin bendable windshield wipers.

One year ago: Installed a pre-owned (but good condition) driver's side headlight/turn signal assembly

The four matching tires are very high quality Kumho Solus KR21 tires. Their ratings are:
Treadwear 640, Traction A, Temperature B

The car easily passed the last year's Ohio emission testing, indicating that the motor is not excessively worn and the catatalytic converter is in good working condition.
The emission levels were:
HC=9.6 ppm, (Ohio maximum limit=147.0 ppm)
CO=.19%, (Ohio maximum limit=.82%)
NO=40.6 ppm (Ohio maximum limit=1072.0 ppm)
evap press=28.20 (Ohio minimum limit=6.0)

The car includes an installed trailer hitch (and a trailer taillight wiring connector/adapter)which I used to tow a small u-haul trailer (4"x7") a few times. It can be handy to have or it can be removed if not wanted or needed since it is bolted on and not welded. The drives's side door panel has three 1/2 inch long cracks in the vinyl and one other worn spot in the vinyl. There is a one inch long tear in the rubber moulding at the top of the passenger side window. The car body has a few (hard to see) minor dings on the right rear quarter panel near the antenna. Since the paint is now two years old,  it has several/many minor paint chips, scratches, and blemishes.  The four wheel disk brakes are in very good condition, and all of the tires are in like-new condition. Both doors open and close very easily, (tightly and in nearly perfect alignment) using either the outside or inside door latches. The car's oil was regularly changed by me during my ownership of the car at about every 9000 miles with synthetic oil (which is a normal interval for synthetic oil) and a new oil filter was installed each time.

Ugly Moto makes beautiful motorcycle art [w/video]

Thu, 08 May 2014

Ugly Moto is a horrible name for a company that makes such wonderful motorcycle art. The creation of artist Francis Ooi, the company's illustrations focus on some of the iconic racing bikes of the 1960s and 1970s.
The artwork has an elegant simplicity that really makes it pop. It would fit just about anywhere from a home office to the bedroom of a young gearhead. Ooi has completed six illustrations so far covering classic cycles from Honda, Ducati, Yamaha and even Harley-Davidson. According to his site, the Suzuki RGB500 ridden by Barry Sheene will be the next one released. All of the prints are priced at $65 and are limited to 100 copies. They are all about 16.53 inches by 23.58 inches in size.
According to his website, these prints are just a hobby for Ooi and his real career is as the creative director at an ad agency. He creates the illustrations on his Mac, and he estimates that each design with about 800 components and layers takes about a month to complete. You can get idea of the process involved in the time-lapse video below.

Honda launches Project Drive-In to save these American icons

Mon, 12 Aug 2013

Honda wasn't really a major player in the automotive industry when drive-in movie theaters were popular in the US, but the automaker is doing its best to preserve the place where automotive and cinema histories collide. Using Project Drive-In, Honda is helping bring awareness to a story we brought up last month, where we saw how a move away from 35-millimeter film could put some of the few drive-in theaters remaining in the US out of business.
As production studios switch to digital film, theaters are required to upgrade to digital projectors, which Honda says will cost about $80,000 for drive-ins. While Project Drive-In asks people to donate money to the cause or pledge to go to a drive-in theater, Honda will also be donating projectors to five of the remaining drive-ins based on votes received on its website. Scroll down to watch a short video describing Project Drive-In, and be sure to vote, pledge and even contribute to save the drive-ins.

Honda begins Micro Commuter testing

Fri, 19 Jul 2013

Autocar is reporting that Honda is about to start testing prototypes of its Micro Commuter, a petite EV that'll do adorable battle with the Renault Twizy if it reaches production.
Honda first showed the Micro Commuter, a so called super-urban vehicle, in November. Like the Renault, it features a 1+1 setup, meaning there's a central seat up front and a small backseat behind it. Honda has designed the tandem runabout for versatility, featuring a body that can be adapted for everything from child hauling to elderly passengers.
A rear-mounted electric motor draws power from a 15-kilowatt, lithium-ion battery, granting it a top speed of 50 miles per hour. With 37 miles of range, the Micro Commuter could be a neat urban solution. That said, these were figures that were announced in November, so we wouldn't be surprised to see them change as Honda gathers data from its new prototype testing program.
