We're the second owners of this excellent 2000 Honda Insight hybrid with under 28,000 miles!  We've owned this for a little over a year. We bought it with just 16,000 miles on odometer from the original owner to use as a commuter car but are no longer commuting now due to a job change.

We have the original sticker price and maintenance/service records from the original dealership where it was bought. The IMA battery was changed in March of 2012 by the original owner and all recall services were also made by the dealer. Everything works the way it should and we've had no issues or problems. Both owners being non-smoking adult drivers, the interior is without damage. No accidents, no dents or dings anywhere with only very tiny paint flakes from rocks and a couple small top-coat scratches from careless people when parked in public lots.
This has been well maintained and serviced by a Honda dealership since new. It has been garage kept and never driven in snow by both owners. We did drive it during winter on clear roads to maintain the IMA battery.
Truly a nice commuter car that averages 60-65 mpg. With a strong tail wind we got over 90 mpg a few times! The price of gas makes this the ideal commuter car with many more years of driving life ahead.

With such low mileage on this first year Honda hybrid, a smart collector could look to the future desirability of owning the top EPA rated fuel efficient production vehicle of all time. Or just drive by the gas pumps as you frugally commute back and forth for many years to come.

Affordable, lightweight Honda roadster revival in the works?

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

There's a joke phrase from a popular movie that gets tossed around the Autoblog offices when ever a big change or announcement is coming: "Hold on to your butts." It's usually accompanied by a video of Samuel L. Jackson. That's the advice we'd recommend for reading this article. GTChannel is reporting that a new, small, lightweight, quick successor to the Honda S2000 is being "seriously considered."
Citing an unnamed source within the Japanese automaker, GTChannel goes on to list a few interesting tidbits about the new vehicle. From the sounds of it, though, if Honda is planning a new roadster, it's in the absolute earliest stages of development.
What's apparently being discussed is a car that's smaller than a Mazda MX-5, in terms of its dimensions. Under hood would be a VTEC engine, displacing anywhere from 1.3 to 1.5 liters, with GT Channel making the apt suggestion that the 1.5-liter, 132-horsepower mill from the Honda Fit could make its way into the new roadster. Curb weight would be in the realm of 2,000 pounds, which would make a 130-odd-hp engine seem absolutely heroic. Rear-wheel drive would be a given, although we aren't sure about the site's suggestion that a five-speed manual will be on offer. Styling could draw from the N-One, a popular, Honda-badged kei car.

2013 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year finalists announced [w/poll]

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

2012 is almost in the books and automakers are spending December gearing up for the 2013 auto show season, which tips off next month at the Detroit Auto Show. Traditionally, the latter opens up with the announcement of the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards, and this year figures to be no different.
But up until this moment, we didn't know which six vehicles would be parked ahead of the stage as finalists, with executives and engineers waiting for the winners to be disclosed. Whittled down from October's "short list" of nominees (11 cars and 10 truck/utility vehicles), the finalists are as follows:
2013 North American Car of the Year:

Honda adopts English as its official language in meetings worldwide

Mon, 25 Nov 2013

Japanese was clearly the language of operation while we visited Honda's global headquarters in Tokyo last week, as well as its newest factory and principal test track. Chief executive Takanobu Ito (pictured above) spoke to us through an interpreter. But according to the latest reports, the Japanese language is being phased out at Honda in favor of English.
This according to Bloomberg, which points out that tire manufacturer Bridgestone and rival automaker Nissan have implemented similar measures, as have Japanese retail giants Fast Retailing Co. and Rakuten Inc. Honda's shift from Japanese to English comes as part of a shift in focus from central decision-making to a more regional model, but while English has clearly emerged as the international language of business, it's no coincidence that it's also the dominant language here in America. Bloomberg points out that over the 12-month period that ended this past March, North America accounted for a massive 47 percent of Honda's revenues worldwide.
