Westlake Village, California, United States

You are looking at a very clean 2002 Honda Insight (First Generation) that has approximately 125,000 miles (see odometer picture).  The body panels are very straight with some rock/debris chips and some paint touch up which is visible to the eye upon close inspection.  There is no other noticeable flaws (or known damage).  The previous owner replaced the battery pack in 2009 when the car had 98,390 miles. The previous owner also replaced the windshield after a tree branch fell and broke the original windshield a few years ago. We have maintained the car to recommended specifications through a local independent Honda service center.  It's a fun car to drive and it's very unique.  Freeway performance is very good;  gas mileage is outstanding and ranges from approximately 45 around town to 60 plus on the freeways (your results can vary depending on driving style). It is being sold as-is, where-is - the car is located in Southern California and buyer will assume all responsibility for pick-up and shipping.  We will assist you in your efforts to have it shipped anywhere in the Continental US.  Payment criteria is a $500.00 deposit upon winning the auction (within 2 days) via PayPal with the balance to be paid by certified bank check or wire within 5 days following the deposit.

Thanks for looking and please ask if you have any questions.

NOTE added January 27, 2014 - The "Maintenance Required" dash light is constantly lit. The light has been on since purchasing the car in 2011 and the previous owner reported that he had the same problem.  This light indicates when it is time for routine maintenance and my mechanic told me that it was not necessary to track down the fault that triggers the light - we have maintained the car according to Honda standards (have all of the records).  There are no other dash warning  lights illuminated.

Ariel to revive motorcycle business with debut at Goodwood

Sat, 07 Jun 2014

If you're a parent, the name Ariel might conjure up one of the Disney princesses, but auto enthusiasts know it as a hardcore, boutique British sports car maker. Before being revived to make the skeletal Atom, the business was also a British motorcycle company best known for its four-cylinder bikes. Now, the modern iteration is looking to the past with plans to unveil its own cycle at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed from June 26-29.
Given Ariel's cars, you might expect an absolutely minimalist motorcycle weighing practically nothing. However, according to its boss speaking to Visor Down, there's no point in trying to build another racer; that market is sewn up. Instead, it's developing a performance cruiser with a more tailored design approach. Buyers can select a variety of different components to adapt the cycle to their style. It shouldn't be lacking for too much speed though; power comes from the 1,237cc V4 engine from the Honda VFR1200F with around 170 horsepower on tap, and it also offers the VFR's six-speed, dual-clutch gearbox as an option.
Ariel admitted that bike on display at Goodwood would just be a test mule and didn't say when the production version would be ready. It seems this idea has been a long time coming, though - we reported in 2011 that the company was working on a bespoke motorcycle with multiple design options around a Honda engine. Pricing at the time was rumored to sit around 20,000 pounds.

Analysts say Honda's growing woes in Europe not just the economy

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

There is no denying that the European auto market is taking its lumps right now - just ask Peugeot - but Honda might be taking this downturn on the chin a little harder than some of the other Japanese automakers doing business on the continent. Automotive News Europe is reporting that things have gotten so bad for Honda that it will be cutting 800 workers from Swindon, England plant that builds the CR-V, Civic and Jazz (a.k.a. Fit). This will be the first time Honda has made such cuts in more than 20 years.
Despite an increase in output last year over 2011 (165,607 units compared to 97,459), the Swindon plant is still running well below its full capacity (250,000/year), and its 66 percent capacity is less than the expected breakeven point of industry analysts (75 to 80 percent). Unlike in the US, however, Honda's new CR-V and Civic aren't selling well, and the similarly sized Nissan Qashqai is outselling the CR-V at a rate of more than five to one. Slow CR-V sales are blamed on a relatively high price and the crossover's conservative styling. On the complete opposite side of the spectrum, the report notes that Nissan continues to experience growth at its UK operations, leading analysts to suggest that Honda can't blame the sour economy for much of its woes.

Honda gets weirdly R-Rated with new Civic Type-R launch video

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Honda is still about a year away from bringing back the Civic Type R to challenge Europe's hot hatch ranks, but the wait isn't stopping the brand from starting its promotion in the UK with a truly strange ad campaign.
Titled R-Rated, the marketing plays with the idea of Honda's Type R badge not being something for every driver, and its 60-second short film Disruption definitely isn't for everyone. The teaser video is meant to personify the spirit of the hot Civic by combining aggressively weird imagery with a glimpse of the new model. It cycles through things like a pack of wolves, androgynous models, a lady with a samurai sword and a flaming speed camera before getting to what we all want to see - the car. It's a weird, by turns creepy, video that feels like it's trying to be outlandish without always showing there's much thought behind the madness.
Perhaps the most frightening thing about the Civic Type R is that there are still major doubts about whether its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an estimated 280 horsepower will make it to North Ameircan showrooms. We understand the business case may be tough, especially when the CTR's hatchback bodystyle isn't sold in America at all, but we think Honda's North American showrooms could use a bit more performance edge, and an affordable halo car like the Type R could do just that.
