Cape May, New Jersey, United States

This van runs great, is in excellent condition, and looks great.  We have kids and there is normal wear and tear inside the vehicle.  There has been no smoking in the vehicle.  I don't even have a list of items that are wrong with the van because there is nothing wrong with it to my knowledge.

We hit a deer last year and had cosmetic work done (replaced windshield, front bumper, hood, other minor stuff) by an insurance certified dealer / mechanic (Toyota dealer). Also, we replaced the passenger sliding door with a NEW door in 2013 as well (done by Honda). I have all the paperwork.  The oil / regular service has been done on schedule.  The air bags did not go off because the impact was minimal and nothing beyond cosmetic work, as noted by the insurance inspectors / mechanic.

WARRANTY:
A.  The initial 3-year / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper is expired because of the miles.

B.  If you purchase this van, I will pay you $100 to offset / cover the cost of having a mechanic inspect the vehicle.

C.  Further, if anything is wrong with the engine in the first 10,000 miles that you own this van, I'll pay you up to $2,000 dollars to assist with repairs.  I have two of these vans and am confident that this van is in excellent shape and that you are getting a good, fair deal.

The tires are original and are getting close to life expectancy / need for replacement.  I had the oil changed last week and the mechanic felt they were okay for a few thousand more miles.

It has the Honda Navigation system (awesome), hands-free phone capabilities, satellite radio capability, and Ipod adaptor / connector in glove box .  It does NOT have the DVD system.  It does have the sunroof, heated front seats, and power everything.

I've priced it just below the low end of the KBB value range ($24,700 - $28,400).

Lesson Learned:  The local dealers are offering only $20,000 for trade in / purchase because the cosmetic work / accident shows up on the Carfax report.  It's unfortunate that the value is impacted that much because the van has NO evidence (mechanical or visual) that anything occurred.  However, I suspect that the van will be sitting on the dealer's lot, within minutes, with a $28,000 sticker price and the accident will be disclosed as "not a big deal," because it was not a big deal.

I am straight forward and am genuinely concerned that a fair deal is done.  I'm not willing to jeopardize my integrity for a couple thousand dollars. If you are interested, please get  the van thoroughly inspected by a Honda dealer and you will find out what I already know about this van: it is good-to-go.

Honda issues bizarre non-recall on Odyssey over badge placement

Wed, 02 Oct 2013

Without looking under the hood or at a vehicle history report, one of the easiest way to tell if a car has had body work done is to check the location and placement of the exterior badges. A crooked, misplaced or missing badge can be a telltale sign that there has been some sort of body or paint work. For this reason, Honda is suggesting that some owners of the 2014 Odyssey take their vans into the dealership for a little rebadging.
The topic was brought to light after Consumer Reports received a notice from Honda saying that the "Odyssey" badge on its test vehicle was incorrectly installed at the factory. The badge is supposed to go on the driver's side of the liftgate (as shown above), but the customer vehicles had it placed on the passenger side of the car. Not a huge deal unless an owner is trying to sell the vehicle and the improperly installed badge leads potential owners into believing the vehicle may have been damaged in some way. Here's what Honda said in its letter:
On some 2013 Odyssey vehicles, the Odyssey emblem was incorrectly installed on the passenger's side of the rear tailgate. The emblem should be installed on the drivers' side of the rear tailgate. American Honda Motor Company highly recommends that you participate in this Product Update. The placement of the emblem may indicate that the vehicle has had repairs performed that are consistent with it being in a crash. This could affect the resale value of the vehicle.

Automotive April Fools' joke roundup [w/videos]

Mon, 01 Apr 2013

Happy April, everyone. And we all know what this first day of the month means: April Fools' Day. Today is a national holiday for pranksters with the Internet acting as a serious enabler, and it's always fun to see what kind of vivid imaginations exist out there in the automotive world. The abundance of fake news gets a little old as the day rolls on, but we did manage to get in a few chuckles thanks to a handful of major automakers and automotive news outlets that got into the pranking spirit this year
Some of our favorites this year includes Subaru showing what happens when you combine a bunch of rumors, a Corvette some may have already thought was a joke or Honda providing some in-car innovation circa the late 1980s. Honestly, we're still waiting for official confirmation from Mitsubishi that the recently introduced 2014 Mirage is an elaborate April Fools' joke using a failed design intended for the 1995 Geo Metro. We dug up as much "official" OEM foolishness we could find, as well as some of our other favorites, and posted them all below.

2015 Honda Fit

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

The last time we left our subcompact hero, the plucky Honda Fit was getting a bit long in the tooth. But the second-generation model was still holding its own rather well, and for the enthusiast on a tight budget who wanted it all, it remained the car of record in its class. If you desired an endlessly practical and reliable little hatch that was fun to drive, it didn't get much better than the Fit. Even with nearly every competitor having been fully freshened since the model's introduction in 2009, the Honda managed to fight off also-ran status simply because of how incredibly functional and great to drive it was. Long story short: we loved this car.
Of course, there were a few caveats to the Fit's superhero status. It wasn't particularly fuel efficient, only mustering up, at best, 33 miles per gallon on the highway in a segment where 40-mpg quickly became the new benchmark. What's more, its onboard technology and infotainment was seriously showing its age. While we'd praise the Fit's behind-the-wheel goodness all day long, this shining beacon of great steering and suspension tuning never proved to be all that wonderful for long-distance highway cruising.
Now, say hello to the 2015 Fit, hitting dealerships this spring. Worry not - it's still clever as ever from a packaging standpoint, and comes fitted with lots of newness both inside and out. It's a far more competitive vehicle than its predecessor, and has everything it takes to fight even the toughest of classmates. But just as before, our recommendation doesn't come without a few caveats.
