Up for auction is a 2005 hyundai accent GT.  This car had the following parts replaced within the last 10000 miles; new timing belt(replaced by Hackettstown Hyundai dealership in NJ), 4 tires(firestone all weather), new rear struts, both front end tie rods replaced, engine oil pan, alignment done 2 months ago.  Car runs smooth and transmission shifts without any problems.  NJ inspection good until 9/2015.   This has been a great commuter car but a recent job change requires me to have a larger vehicle.  check engine light recently came on.  car drives the same as it did before so im guessing an O2 sensor may be the problem.  I average about 30 to 33 mpg.  Exterior has very minor scratches for an almost 9 yr old car.  Interior is in excellent condition.  All in all it is a very nice car to get back and forth to work in needing nothing besides frequent oil changes to keep the car reliable.  I have no reserve set for this vehicle. I do reserve the right to end the auction early as it is for sale locally.

Hyundai-Kia fuel-economy errors trigger $300M in federal penalties [w/video]

Mon, 03 Nov 2014

This amount includes $100-million in civil penalties, the largest such fines in EPA history.
Hyundai and Kia are getting more than a slap on the wrist for overstating the fuel economy of an estimated 1.2-million vehicles in their 2011-2013 model ranges. The Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Justice and the California Air Resources Board are hitting the automakers with collective penalties valued at around $300 million for Clean Air Act violations. This amount includes $100-million in civil penalties, the largest such fines in EPA history. Specifically, Hyundai is paying a $56.8 million penalty and relinquishing 2.7-million greenhouse gas emissions credits. Kia is paying $43.2 million in penalties and giving up 2.05-million credits.

Hyundai recalls 883k Sonatas over detaching shift cable

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

There are plenty of things that can go wrong in a car, some more vital than others. Automakers try their best to make sure they don't, but things slip through, like the shift cables on the Hyundai Sonata.
Hyundai and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have found that, on 883,000 units of the MY2011-2014 Sonata manufactured between December 11, 2009, and May 29, 2014, the shift cable in the transmission is prone to detach from the shift lever. As a result, the gear indicated and the gear engaged might not match, which could set the vehicle in motion unexpectedly. Worse than that, the Park position might not engage altogether, and without the hand brake pulled, that could lead the car to roll away without warning.
In an entirely separate recall affecting a much smaller number of 2015 Sonatas, Hyundai has found that the front brake calipers could fracture. This second recall affects a relatively small 5,650 units manufactured between April 25 and June 16, 2014.

Hyundai in hot water over suicide-themed commercial

Thu, 25 Apr 2013

There's a surprisingly long and storied history of automakers creating suicide-themed advertisements. You'd think the companies and their marketing firms would have figured out by now that such ads always result in a swirl of backlash - see examples from Audi, Citroën, General Motors and Volkswagen, all pasted down below, as proof.
It seems somebody at Hyundai didn't get the message that many people don't find suicide a laughing matter. A video making the rounds on the web that was, according to Hyundai, produced in the UK, depicts a man trying to commit suicide by pumping exhaust fumes into the passenger compartment of his car. As it turns out, the self-assisted death doesn't quite go according to plan.
Scroll down below to see the ad from Hyundai, a slew of similar spots from other automakers, and an official statement from Hyundai. After that, we suggest reading this piece from our friends at AOL Autos to see how deeply such thoughtless advertisements can affect people.
