 Selling my 1970 Jaguar XJ.
This car is my daily driver. She has around 40,000 believed original miles, and I believe I am the third owner, however, I have no documention to prove.
The good:
Paintwork on this car cost someone a sore arm. It is extremely slick and smooth with very few blemishes. They window seals have been replaced as have the window scraper seals. Has a new headliner and the seats are in great original shape with no rips or tears. Stiching is in good shape with no burst seams. The carpets are dirty, but original I think. A/C works, blows cold, although it does not have the air volume of modern cars, so at best I can say it keeps up but will not freeze you out, it is 134a converted. The entire HVAC syetm work, which for those of you who have played with it, is kind of a big deal- all vents work, recirculation, heater, vent, and A/C when you want, where you want. Everything works, all windows, blowers, fuel guages, lights, etc. Many conversion and upgrades on this car. I do NOT purport it to be original in mechanical aspects, in fact, I know its not. She has a 1985 Daimler DS420 engine and transmission in her. Neat thing is... Daimler came with Jag installed GM TH350 3 speed transmission, which this has. No John's Car conversion here. I have added the MK10 intake, triple SU 2" HD8 carbs, which have been rebuilt, and modified an MK10 intake to suit. The engine runs strong, does not smoke. I have installed the polished valve covers on it. It has a 14" electric cooling fan in a shroud installed. It is pure Series 3 XJ for Radiator, oil cooler, condensor, compressor, front suspension, brakes, steering rack, power steering pump, crank pulley, oil filter housing and filter, and exhaust front the downpipe back. The rear suspension has been rebuilt, with a 3.54:1 PowerLock diff. This car will MOVE when needed. Also has a Lucas HE coil, and I'm not sure about the distributor, but I want to say it a 45DM6 from the S3 cars, with a Pertronix unit installed. I think it could use a bit more static advance as above 4500RPMs she begins to run out of power (S3 provided 15 degrees or something like that, these things run well at 35 or so). She also has two new fuel tanks and senders. And the stereo is fantastic, 4 MB Quart 5.25" door speakers (the rears are under the seat) and two 10" MB Quart subs on the rear deck. They are powered by an Alpine amp that is turned down so that it doesn't just go boom boom boom. Sound quality is great. I have my doubts that it was american spec to start with, as she has 7" outer headlights and no sidemarkers.
Now, the bad bits:
Upper part of rear seat has sun damage (?) as in the leather is hard but no split seams. It has responded well to conditioning with leather creams, but reverts back to being hard in a couple months. Has oil leaks, namely the oil return hose from the oil dump off the pressure relief valve. Needs some steering rack boots. It has a chip in the passengers fender where the door opened and nicked the paint (has been filled in, need wet sanding and buffing), there are two ding in the hood where the valve covers are closest to the hood (I think someone had acorn nuts and slammed the hood and then realised what he did), and there is a scrape on the valence under the fuel tank on the passengers side (courtesy my 3 year old daughter.... Kids, sheesh). There is a slight fuel smell when completely full and windows are down. Bumper chrome has some pitting or blemishes, but no rust and present well. All other chrome is in fantastic shape. I do have the chrome for the front and rear windows to go with, along with a heated rear window to replace the non heated one on the car currently. The blower switch need an occasional thump to get high going, and the fuel changeover switch always works the pump, but not always the gauge. Engine fans should be wired in with the A/C, as currently its not.

I do have a manual conversion available to go with for extra $$$ if anyone is interested, consisting of a bellhousing, flywheel, pedal box, master and slave cylinders, 4 speed with O/D box, and driveshaft.

And thats about that. She runs awesome, my wife and her took her to the Mitty this year, Chattenooga earlier this year, were planning a beach trip shortly in it if it does not sell. I am not afraid to drive it anywhere. I do not NEED to sell it (Selling mostly cause it get 11mpg as a daily driver, and its too nice to use up as a daily driver), so I will wait for a reasonable offer. I know whats in it, I've been watching the market. I will trade this car for a BMW M5, 02 740iL (plus cash) or 750iL, or 540i with a 6 speed. For more info, call Gavin at 205.902.7625. Also, bid what you think its worth to you. And good luck.

Jaguar Project 7 concept is an F-Type in a D-Type mold [w/video]

Wed, 10 Jul 2013

In addition to the XJR, XFR-S and XKR-S GT models Jaguar is bringing to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, the manufacturer announced that the F-Type-based, D-Type-inspired Project 7 design study will make its "dynamic" debut at the festival, with driving duties assigned to Mike Cross, Jaguar's chief engineer of vehicle integrity. Here's the cool part: With Jaguar's Director of Design, Ian Callum, leading the team responsible for Project 7, it went from the drawing board to track testing in only four months, Jaguar states, with a claimed 0-60 time of 4.1 seconds and top speed of 186 miles per hour.
Project 7, which was named in honor of Jaguar's seven wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will be making runs up the hill at Goodwood over all three days of the festival, which starts at the Goodwood House in West Sussex, England, this Friday.
Far from a fragile concept car, Jaguar says, the single-seat Project 7 is a fully functional sports car. It uses the all-aluminum chassis and body of the F-Type, retains that car's 550-horsepower, supercharged 5.0-liter V8 and eight-speed automatic transmission but features lots of bespoke carbon fiber aerodynamic bits, some of which were inspired by the Le Mans-winning D-Type of the 1950s. The most obvious nod to that classic is the rear fairing with integrated rollover hoop - the F-Type's convertible top is gone. The windshield was also lowered, giving the roadster a more rakish silhouette as it sits on 20-inch forged-alloy wheels with carbon fiber inserts.

Jaguar considering lightweight F-Type Club Sport?

Wed, 02 Apr 2014

In the market for a Jaguar F-Type? Then let us commend you, first of all, on your good taste. But you've got a difficult decision ahead of you: Do you go for the power of the V8 or the lighter weight of the V6? It's a tough call, even if the ~$30k range in price from the entry model to the flagship doesn't phase you.
Well, to make the decision easier (or potentially more difficult), Jaguar is said to be looking into yet another tempting option: that of a lightweight Club Sport model. Tipped to be based on the coupe (and not the heavier roadster), the F-Type Club Sport would allegedly shed a good 400 pounds or so off the curb weight, not so much through the removal of one component or another but through a "holistic" approach that would call on all aspects of the car to play their part in ditching excess weight. That could mean everything from carbon-fiber body panels to a stripped-out interior denuded of sound-deadening materials and creature comforts, says Auto Express.
In developing the rumored F-Type Club Sport, Jaguar is apparently facing a similar dilemma to what buyers are pondering: will it base the track-focused model on the top-of-the-line F-Type R, with its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 driving 542 horsepower to the rear set of lighweight alloys but weighing down the schnoz? Or should it try to get more power out of the lighter 3.0-liter supercharged V6, which currently nets 340 hp in base form and 380 in S spec? Let Jag know what you'd do by leaving your thoughts in Comments.

Watch the trailer for Jaguar's short film staring the F-Type and Damian Lewis

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Jaguar continues to think well outside of the box when it comes to marketing it's new F-Type, now furthering plans for a short film which highlights the sexy roadster. Desire, featuring Damian Lewis (star of the hit series Homeland), Jordi Mollà (unforgettable in Bad Boys II) and Shannyn Sossamon (that girl you had a crush on for like a month in 2002 after you rented A Knight's Tale), Jaguar is clearly pulling out all the stops for this one. Well, nearly all the stops anyway - the "Ridley Scott Associates" billing isn't quite the same has having the man himself, if we're splitting hairs.
The short video below is still just a trailer for Desire - the full film will make its debut sometime in April, we're told. The sketched out plotlines tell us that Lewis' character Clark, "...delivers cars for a living, running into trouble after a chance encounter with a mysterious, young woman (Sossamon) in the middle of a lawless desert." The car looks good, at any rate.
Call us crazy, but the Desire trailer feels an awful lot like a spoof on the cool-but-overly-serious short films that BMW has done in this vein, already. Maybe we're just being cynical? Tell us what you think in comments after watching the clip.
