2002 jaguar extended wheelbase VDP. Vanden plas model has much more room inside and at 6'5'' i really notice it compared to my XJR. She has around 103,500 miles and bc of the needed octopus coolant hose repair, the miles will not move up much as she is mostly just garaged now due to HOA issues. Unfortunately, My HOA has towed me 4 times for having too many cars and I need to sell two quickly sooooo the Jag has to go at no reserve starting at a penny...She is a great car that I have almost completely fixed. She has a few problems left I will mention below, but she has a lot of important work done on these Jags and myself and my uncle in UT have been the only owners since 30k miles. She is garaged and washed and waxed regularly so for her age the paint is still nice with no AZ sun damage. I have over 7000 in maintenance records. In the last 10k miles we have done the valve cover gaskets..(MY DAD AND I DID THOSE), power steering pump and hose, fuel pump and fuel filter, new front brakes and new front drilled and slotted rotors, 2 mobile 1 oil changes, new battery with warranty, AND NEW FRONT DOOR CABLE. Since I have owned it at 60k miles we have done the UPGRADED TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS (OVER $2K JOB), SPARK PLUGS, MOTOR MOUNTS, TRANNY MOUNTS, ENTIRE COOLANT SYSTEM HOSES AND TANK..EXCEPT THE OCTOPUS HOSE WHICH NEEDS REPAIR!!! WILL GET TO THAT LATER....LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS, UPGRADED TEHERMOSTAT HOUSING AND THERMOSTAT, SHOCK LOWER MOUNT, SUBFRAME MOUNT, UPPER BALL JOINTS, SWAY BAR LINK, CAMSHAFT GASKETS......A LOT! ENGINE HAS ONLY SEEN MOBIL 1 THE BAD ON HER : RESTORED REBUILT TITLE, NOT SALVAGE...I GUESS THERE IS A DIFFERENCE? FROM SOMETHING IN 2003...NEVER BOTHERED ME AND IT WAS EASY TO GET GOOD GEICO INSURANCE ABS LIGHT ON..RESEARCH THIS IT IS VERY COMMON AND IF U HAVE SOLDERING SKILLS IT IS DIY...RESOLDERING OF METAL PINS ON ABS MODULE OR ..PLEASE NOTE YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO ANYTHING AS WELL AND CAN LIVE WITH THE LIGHT IF YOU DO NOT MIND BC THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS ARE NEW AND BRAKES WORK PERFECT. MARKS ON FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS...PURELY COSMETIC...SOME SCRATCHES HERE AND THERE TYPICAL OF AGE... CURRENTLY HAVE A CHILD SEAT AND BASE SOMEHOW STUCK COMPLETELY IN THE BACK MIDDLE....HAVING THAT LOOKED AT, BUT SOMEHOW THE DAMN BASE PIERCED THE BELT I THINK...SO WORST CASE WE WILL HAVE TO CUT THE MIDDLE SEATBELT IN THE BACK...HOPEFULLY NOT THOUGH.. PASSENGER MOST HEADLIGHT LENS GLASS IS BROKEN...SOME JACKASS SMASHED A BEER BOTTLE ON IT I THINK...U CAN FIND THE LENS ON EBAY OR JUNKYARDS... THIS IS THE MAJOR ISSUE..OCTOPUS HEATER HOSE BEHIND ENGINE WAS NOT REPLACED WHEN THE REST OF THE COOLANT HOSES AND TANK WERE REPLACED FOR SOME REASON...PROB THE BEHIND THE DAMN ENGINE LOCATION, AND IT IS NOW LEAKING AND YOU NEED TO FIX IT AS THESE CARS AND COOLANT LEAKS ARE NOT A GOOD COMBO...OCTOPUS HOSE IS OEM #MNC6733AE FOR 175.00 ON EBAY AND I WAS QUOTED 2.5 HOURS REPAIR BY Jag and on my Jag forum many people have done it themselves..it did take one guy 8 hours though...WITH THE HOSE YOU HOW IT IS NOW YOU CAN TOP OFF AND DRIVE SHORT DISTANCES, BUT YOU REALLY NEED TO DO THIS ASAP AND SHE WILL BE A GREAT CAR FOR SOMEONE AS I DID ALL THE MAJOR REPAIRS YOU RUN INTO. SHE IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO WARRANTY. I am not a dealer and if the buyer is from instate i know there is no sales tax..She is currently garaged, but I can arrange showings...thanks and good luck! someone will get a nice steal on her...68k msrp when she was new... SO YES SHE HAS A FEW SMALL ISSUES, BUT WITH THAT OCTOPUS HEATER HOSE FIX SHE WILL BE A GREAT CAR AT A STEAL PRICE...SHE STILL GETS A LOT OF LOOKS WITH ALL THE CHROME..RIMS ARE GF DRIVEN ON SO DO HAVE MARKS, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE IN PICS STILL LOOK GREAT FROM 5 FEET..RIMS ARE ALLOY TECH AND WERE 1500 NEW. 20 INCH. EMAIL ME OR TEXT FIRST 518-774-7840...I WORK A LOT AND DO NOT ANSWER CALLS AT WORK SO TEXTS WORK BEST UNTIL I CAN FIN TIME TO TALK...THANKS AND GOOD LUCK photo 049.jpg photo 048.jpg photo 047-1.jpg photo 045-1.jpg photo 044-1.jpg photo 043-1.jpg photo 042-1.jpg photo 041-1.jpg photo 040-1.jpg photo 039-1.jpg photo 038-1.jpg photo 035-1.jpg photo 033-1.jpg photo 032-1.jpg photo 031-1.jpg photo 030-1.jpg photo 028-1.jpg photo 025-1.jpg photo 024-1.jpg photo 023-1.jpg photo 022-1.jpg photo 021-1.jpg photo 020-1.jpg photo 019-1.jpg photo 018-1.jpg photo 017-1.jpg photo 016-1.jpg photo 015-1.jpg photo 014-1.jpg photo 013-1.jpg photo 011-1.jpg photo 010-1.jpg photo 009-1.jpg photo 008-1.jpg photo 007-2.jpg photo 006-2.jpg photo 005-2.jpg photo 005-2.jpg photo 003-2.jpg photo 0022.jpg photo 001-2.jpg photo 002-2.jpg

Lapping Le Mans with 1956's version of a dash cam

Wed, 01 May 2013

Mike Hawthorne and Ivor Bueb won The 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1955 driving a Jaguar D-Type. The following year, a few days before the race, a British broadcaster put cameras on Hawthorne's car, hung a mic from a plate on his race suit and had him narrate a lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe.
It is compelling viewing. A new pit complex was built after the massive accident on the front straight in 1955, but this was still a time when crews prepped for the race on roads that were open to the public. Hawthorne's lap includes maneuvers to avoid bicyclists and cars, and gems like letting us know that doing 185 miles per hour down the Mulsanne Straight was where you could "relax a little, recover your energy." Watch him work it like the men of old in the video below.

Jaguar bringing all-wheel-drive F-Type to LA Auto Show [w/video]

Thu, 06 Nov 2014

Jaguar's big splash at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show was showing off the slinky F-Type Coupe; perhaps one of the loveliest car shapes on the road today. This year the company won't have a show-stopping new design to offer, but the news that all-wheel drive is coming to the F-Type range is, nevertheless, pretty spectacular.
Mixed in with news about a technical partnership between Jaguar and the Bloodhound SSC World Land Speed Record program, the British brand announced this morning that it will show the first AWD F-Type Coupe at the 2014 LA show later this month.
Jaguar tells us that the sure-footed cat, in AWD F-Type R Coupe form, will run from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds, with a limited top speed of 186 mph.

Jaguar F-Type Coupe is here, will debut on stage in LA

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

When Jaguar previewed its new sportscar two years ago with the C-X16 concept, it showed a coupe form. But when the car hit production as the F-Type, it rolled out in roadster form only. Not that we're complaining, but we all knew it wouldn't be long before Coventry revealed the production coupe, and that's just what it's doing at this month's LA Auto Show.
Jaguar hasn't given us much to go on yet - just a single shot of the vehicle from above and nothing in the way of technical details - but we all know the drill. The F-Type Coupe will essentially be the same as the existing roadster, only with a fixed roof - with a large glass panel, mind you, to let plenty of light in and keep the cabin from feeling markedly more claustrophobic than the open-top version.
That ought to make it a little lighter (though not much) and a little stiffer, but otherwise we can expect more or less the same specs as the convertible. We'll have to wait until the evening of November 19 to know for sure, though, so watch this space for more.
