27,000 Miles, Serviced, Drive It Anywhere on 2040-cars
Kingston, Pennsylvania, United States
This is a very nice 1988 XJ-S.
The car has somewhat over 27,000 miles.
I recently went through the car and serviced everything that needed it:
New Water Pump
New Belts
Oil Flush and Change
Brake Fluid
Transmission Fluid Flushed and changed.
Ignition upgraded from dual-coil to single coil
changed the fuel filter
and addressed some annoying issues with sending units to dashboard cluster.
The car has minimal surface rust in a few small areas, but generally rust free, absolutely no penetration or lower side rust whatsoever, due to the miles I'm sure.
Car also needs a headliner, but they're available as replicas right here on eBay, or can be done by any competent upholsterer for even less.
The wood veneer is bad in spots but not all spots, restoration kits are also available here on eBay for less than $150.00.
This is a nice car that is driven by me frequently.
It's inspected in PA till 3/14 but only has about a thousand miles since the state inspection so it'll pass the next one easy enough.
This is a super-nice car that I've worked on a bit to put into great shape. Could be driven daily relatively drama-free, runs very cool, lots of sweet V-12 goodness: 65 MPH is around 2,000 RPM and if you give it a stomp, it pins you to your seat. Not a sports-car as much as an English version of an Eldorado. I have other Jags that I'm currently driving and using and don't want to use this one through the NE winter season. If you've always loved these cars or have already had them, this is the one you want.

Jaguar design boss admits X-Type was a mistake
Thu, 19 Sep 2013History has a way of repeating itself, especially in the auto industry. When Jaguar was owned by Ford, the British brand attempted to field a competitor for the BMW 3 Series, called the X-Type. Based on the bones of a Ford Mondeo, it aped the styling of Jaguar's flagship model, the XJ, while borrowing liberally from the Ford parts bin. That was 2001.
Now, in 2013, Jaguar is planning a new 3 Series challenger based on the platform previewed by the C-X17 Concept, while Ford is attempting to take the latest Mondeo upmarket. The moves have both brands recognizing where, why, and how the X-Type failed. "It didn't look mature or powerful or anything. It was just a car," Jaguar's current head of advanced design, Julian Thomson, told PistonHeads. Basing the X-Type on a front-drive car while giving it styling that was meant for a rear-driver lead to proportions that "were plainly wrong," Thomson told PH. Ford's European head of quality, Gunnar Herrmann, added that the X-Type was "a fake Jaguar, because every piece I touch is Ford."
For what it's worth, the X-Type's successor in the segment will sport rear-drive, with plenty of input from Ian Callum. Thomson described the new model, which would challenge the 3 Series as having, "Big wheels right to the ends of the car, low bonnet, short overhangs, very low cabins." Sounds good to us.
2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT claws at the driving enthusiast in us
Wed, 27 Mar 2013If you still find yourself coming up a few seconds short per lap in your Jaguar XKR-S, the British automaker has introduced the XKR-S GT - a cat specifically tuned for the racing circuit - at the New York Auto Show.
While Jaguar has left the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 unchanged (550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque), it has tuned and tweaked all the items that really make cars go quicker on the track (e.g. suspension, aerodynamics, contact patches, brakes). A once-over reveals upgraded go-fast goodies including a new ventilated hood, extended wheel arch spats, reworked front end with a bespoke front splitter and canards, a massive rear wing, height-adjustable adaptive dampers, active exhaust, carbon-ceramic brakes and sticky Pirelli Corsa tires. Try as we might, the driver in us can't find anything we not to like about this enthusiast-tuned coupe.
Of course all of the upgraded XK goodness doesn't come easy, or cheap. Jaguar will limit North American sales to just 30 units and price each at $174,000. Learn all the juicy details in the official press release below.
Jay Leno's Garage features funnyman's 1963 Jaguar E-Type
Thu, 25 Apr 2013Jay Leno looks inward on this episode of his eponymous garage, checking out a 1963 Jaguar XKE that he bought earlier this year. It is an example of his favorite kind of car, that being original and unrestored. He bought the E-Type from its first owner, a woman who purchased it new, held on to it for 50 years and took excellent care of it. Having never been in an accident, Leno says even the paint is 85- to 90-percent original.
In the video, the XKE sits in front of two heavily modded XK120s and another '63 XKE, but Leno said all he's done - and all he plans to do - is clean it up and put on a modern set of wire wheels for safety.
He's not on any junket and there are no guests, it's just a guy talking about an object dear to his heart. If you need a refresher on the excellent genes of the new F-Type, check out the video below.
