1985 Jaguar Xj6 on 2040-cars

I have owned this car for about 12 years.
The Good: All recent rotors and brakes. The rear inboard discs are in good condition. The suspension is very tight. The tires are almost new and are mounted on Dayton wire wheels. All the gages work. The A/C works, power windows and door locks work. The sunroof works. All the lights function properly. The car starts and runs well with no taps rattles etc.. The transmissions shifts properly the fluid is bright pink as it should be. I just made a trip back and forth from OBX to Pittsburgh in this car and it effortlessly rolls down the interstate. At speeds between 75-80 mph I get about 14 mpg. I have always changed the oil and kept up with the maintenance. There is an aftermarket in dash CD player with a 6 disc changer in the trunk. All the speakers were upgraded. The headliner is not sagging. The Not So Good The leather interior is aging and cracking in places, The car was repainted 6 years ago and is now developing rust bubbles around the glass trim. The headlight buckets have rusted through in some places, but the headlights are still secure. It recently developed an exhaust leak between the muffler and the resonator. There is a dent in the passenger rear door from some idiot at the marina parking lot who did not look before backing up. The engine uses a quart of oil every 800 miles. I have no idea where it is going. The tailpipes are clean. The spark plugs look great, there are no drips on the ground. Possibly valve stem seals. The performance is not affected at all. The cruise control does not work. The dashboard has some cracks, The wood paneling on the dashboard is degrading but still in place. Conclusion: For a car this age and mileage it is in pretty good mechanical shape, cosmetically she is feeling her age. Don't hesitate to e-mail with questions. She is being sold as is where is. Hot Rod Garage series premieres with 700-hp big-block Jaguar XJ
Fri, 23 May 2014Roadkill hosts Mike Finnegan and David Freiburger have broken up - kinda - to spin off a new show, Hot Rod Garage, that mostly gives up the driveway and parking lot wrench work for the confines of a garage. We say kinda because while Finnegan is the primary host for Hot Rod Garage, Freiburger plays guest host and the new show starts off by wrenching on the Roadkill Draguar project car.
What's the Draguar? It's a 1974 Jaguar XJ12 that's about to be force-fed a 383-cubic-inch Chevrolet long-block engine with tidbits like Holley carbs, a Weiand 6-71 roots blower and a "custom WillBlow transmission," all good for about 700 horsepower. After that Finnegan gets into swapping parts on his wife's El Camino and some TIG welding lessons.

Wed, 25 Jun 2014A bit of British nobility floods the senses when piloting the 2014 Jaguar XJ. It's an emotional rush, a perception based on physical surroundings that influence the mind in much the same manner that a stein of pilsner tastes best when consumed in a German beer garden and no sand is softer than that found on a warm Caribbean beach. Jaguar has been assembling cars for nearly 100 years, and few automakers are as equally adept at capturing aristocracy and timelessness within the rich cabins of their luxury offerings.
Jaguar would have no concern if it were the only game in town, but that's far from the truth. The premium full-size luxury segment, which includes vehicles hovering just under or at the six-figure mark, is a contentious grouping that includes the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Porsche Panamera. Each of those brings its own game to the battle, and none are easy to dismiss.
To better understand the British perspective and evaluate its latest offering on a land without royalty, I recently spent a week with a long-wheelbase, all-wheel-drive Jaguar XJ in Southern California.
Jaguar buys world's largest collection of British cars
Mon, 28 Jul 2014Whether you're looking at Bertone going bankrupt or Spyker facing (and subsequently resolving) a large tax bill, it's saddening to see an automaker having to sell off its factory collection. That's why we're glad to report that there are still some acquiring historic vehicles from their pasts. Like Jaguar, which has just bought the largest private collection of classic British cars in the world.
The collection of 543 cars was painstakingly assembled by one James Hull, a British dentist with some 50 dental clinics to his name across the UK and who was keen to find the right buyer to take possession of his life's work and preserve it for years to come.
Of those 543 cars, the majority are of British origin, including over 130 Jaguars. The collection includes seven XK120s, several C- and D-Types, a rare XKSS, eight E-Types, thirty Mark-series Jaguar sedans, nineteen XJS coupes and convertibles, some twenty XJ sedans as well as some pre-war SS models and Swallow sidecars and coachbuilt specials from the company's early days. Among the many noteworthy examples are a rare SS100, an alloy-bodied XK120 and an MK X owned by company founder Sir William Lyons himself, as well as Winston Churchill's Austin, Elton John's Bentley, and racing driver and motorcycle rider Mike Hailwood's E-Type.
