1953 Jaguar XK120 SE Drophead Coupe

Chassis No: S677155

Engine No: W8443-8S

Body No: P1157

Highly desirable LHD US-delivery Special Equipment Model

Numbers-Matching as verified by the JDHT Certificate

      A Genuine Virginia Garage Find

Incredibly solid condition and attractive original colors

We very often receive request for authentic and solid Jaguar XK 120's, 140's, and 150's. There is a trend of forward thinking investors and collectors looking to acquire original unspoiled cars to use as driving long term investments or to perform show quality restorations that can completely transform a motorcar to blue chip quality. Of course there are also those who love the cars just for what they are and can appreciate the patina of a car like this. The XK120 SE Drophead Coupe presented here offers so many options for the next lucky owner.

This original left-hand drive Special Equipment Drophead Coupe was completed on May 8, 1953, and dispatched to the U.S. on May 15, 1953 through Hoffman Motor Car Co. in New York. The DHC was the most luxurious and expensive 120's available for the first time in 1953. Whereas the roadster was a bare bones open car, the drophead coupe featured exterior door handles, retractable glass windows an insulated boot that can lower within seconds and lavish wood throughout the deluxe interior.

To enhance the motoring experience - this particular 120 was fitted with the more powerful Special Equipment package. The SE Model (known as XK120M in the States) gave a power boost to 180bhp using high lift camshafts and carburetors. The 120 also features lightweight aluminum hood, doors, and trunk. Wire wheels and fog lights were fitted as standard, as was overdrive. The options and original specifications are verified by the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate which is included with the sale.

Just discovered residing in a hidden Virginia garage alongside other equally impressive British sports cars, this XK120 DHC benefits from great previous ownership of 25+ years before being parked just over a year ago. It appears to have received a ground-up restoration quite some time ago with strong patina throughout and a beautiful nostalgic appearance in its original factory colors and woodwork.

Acquired recently in non-running condition we have turned the engine over and it attempts to start but additional servicing will be required before driving. A service of the brakes and a thorough check over of the mechanicals will be required before driving. With so many other projects in line we are offering S677155 as-is where-is and hope that the next owner enjoys the process of making her road worthy again. It's a wide open book, we welcome and encourage inspections from any interested parties.

It is important to note that this car is completely solid and with no corrosion issues. All of the numbers match including the engine block, head, transmission and body.

This is an overall fantastic opportunity to acquire a fantastic sport luxury Jaguar XK120 SE Drophead Coupe.

Petrolicious profiles one of the final Jaguar E-Types

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

There's no question that David Paddison has got a very lovely 1974 Jaguar E-Type convertible. The rubber bumpers of this late E-Type may distract ever so slightly from the purity of the lines, but that doesn't mean we're still not completely jealous of the latest Petrolicious subject car.
As usual, the team of vintage car videographers has done a fine job capturing a small moment of gear-headness with this latest installment - The Last of the Breed. We do wonder why we don't get to hear a little bit more of that famed Jaguar V12 rumble, however. There's just a whiff of engine and exhaust sound in the middle of the video, while the rest of the piece sounds like it was scored by Amy Grant's rhythm guitarist. See for yourself, below.

Jaguar buys world's largest collection of British cars

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

Whether you're looking at Bertone going bankrupt or Spyker facing (and subsequently resolving) a large tax bill, it's saddening to see an automaker having to sell off its factory collection. That's why we're glad to report that there are still some acquiring historic vehicles from their pasts. Like Jaguar, which has just bought the largest private collection of classic British cars in the world.
The collection of 543 cars was painstakingly assembled by one James Hull, a British dentist with some 50 dental clinics to his name across the UK and who was keen to find the right buyer to take possession of his life's work and preserve it for years to come.
Of those 543 cars, the majority are of British origin, including over 130 Jaguars. The collection includes seven XK120s, several C- and D-Types, a rare XKSS, eight E-Types, thirty Mark-series Jaguar sedans, nineteen XJS coupes and convertibles, some twenty XJ sedans as well as some pre-war SS models and Swallow sidecars and coachbuilt specials from the company's early days. Among the many noteworthy examples are a rare SS100, an alloy-bodied XK120 and an MK X owned by company founder Sir William Lyons himself, as well as Winston Churchill's Austin, Elton John's Bentley, and racing driver and motorcycle rider Mike Hailwood's E-Type.

2014 Jaguar F-Type V8 S [w/video]

Thu, 14 Nov 2013

Withhold judgment on the world's greatest exhaust note until after you've heard the Jaguar F-Type V8 S (scroll down now for a sneak peek). Its cackle, boom and pop under deceleration will have you rifling through its glovebox looking for a tool to remove the stereo as an in-dash audio system.
Combining modern technology with age-old exhaust plumbing, Jaguar's British engineers have developed a way to propel spent combustion gases into the atmosphere in a manner that elevates the complete driving experience. At idle, it purrs. Under acceleration, it roars. During cruise, it soothes. Perhaps most compellingly, during deceleration, it titillates.
Thankfully, the newest two-place convertible from Jaguar isn't only defined by its mesmerizing soundtrack - the F-Type would be an impressive sports car even if the world went silent.
