This 1951 XK120 has spent the majority of it's life in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.  The car has a very, dry bodyand it has very little, if no rust on it. The car does have some racing history and you can see in the pictures some of the modifications that were made for this purpose.  There is plaque on the dash saying it was raced in 1954.  The additional history will be added in the next day or two after the listing date.  As you can see in the photos the early XK120's came through with chrome plating on the seat frames and the soft top frames.  Another item typical of the early XK120's was the smooth cam covers, which are shown in the photos as well.  The car is pretty much complete, but it is not a matching number car in the fact that the engine does not match the commission plate.  The chassis, gearbox and body numbers are correct and do match the commission plate..  The engine in the car now is out of a 1951 Jaguar. Sorry I do not have a Heritage Certificate from Jaguar. The car is obviously going to need a full restoration. What you see in the pictures is what you are going to get, although  I do have a small box with some misc. pieces that will go with the car, which are not shown.   The car does  roll and steer so it can be shipped easily. I will be posting an additional photo of the racing plaque with the details.  If you have any questions please email or call Ray at 617-838-3728 or Dan at 781-630-0185.

On Jan-10-13 at 06:31:53 PST, seller added the following information:

The car was raced in 1954 with the Sports Car Club of British Columbia, which was founded in 1951. The car got 2nd place at the Empire Cup Meet Class A.  There is a website for S.C.C. of B.C. it is www.sccbc.net. , which is still an active club.  Perhaps there is a an Emeritus member still around that remembers the car.

Jaguar names its 3 Series-fighter XE, packs it with Ingenium engines

Tue, 04 Mar 2014

Jaguar is committed to emerging from the fringes of the luxury car market and into the mainstream. Just take a look at where it was a couple of decades ago and where it is now: In the 1980s, it had essentially two product lines, the XJ sedan and XJ-S coupe/convertible), and now it's got the XK coupe and convertible, the XJ sedan, the XF sedan and wagon and the F-Type coupe and roadster. But it's not about to stop there.
Coventry knows that if it's going to take on the German and Japanese heavyweights, it's going to need a compact sports sedan, and it's not about to repeat the mistake that was the X-Type. To that end, it's long been rumored to be developing a rival to the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class - it just hasn't given us much to go on. But that changes right here and now.
At the Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar has confirmed the imminent arrival of its new sports sedan, and along with the teaser image above, has given us some juicy details. For one, it'll be called the XE - fitting nicely alongside its big brothers the XF and XJ in Jaguar's growing sedan lineup. For another, it'll hit markets overseas in 2015 and arrive here in the United States in 2016.

Jaguar readying a pop-top F-Type Coupe? [w/poll]

Mon, 17 Feb 2014

Typically convertibles are spun off of coupes, but sometimes it goes the other way. Like the Porsche Cayman that was based on the Boxster, the Lotus Exige spun off of the Elise, and the Jaguar F-Type, which arrived as a roadster before the coupe debuted. But if the latest reports are to be believed, Jaguar could be planning something in between.
According to Auto Express (which has, mind you, been known to stretch the rumors out some), Jaguar is toying with the idea of offering a partial convertible version of the F-Type - something Porsche would call a Targa (and which we would too if Stuttgart weren't so litigiously protective of the name). The additional roof configuration would give the F-Type three body-styles, giving its customers more choices.
It wouldn't be the only sports car to offer three roof options: There's the Porsche 911, of course. Ferrari once offered GTB, GTS and Spider versions of the 348 and 355. The Chevy Corvette has been offered in all three forms, as was the Pontiac Solstice many moons ago. But that kind of variety in roof configurations has become scarce. Jaguar's decision reportedly depends on whether it can make the business case or not. Do you think there'd be enough demand for a lift-roof F-Type?

Lapping Le Mans with 1956's version of a dash cam

Wed, 01 May 2013

Mike Hawthorne and Ivor Bueb won The 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1955 driving a Jaguar D-Type. The following year, a few days before the race, a British broadcaster put cameras on Hawthorne's car, hung a mic from a plate on his race suit and had him narrate a lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe.
It is compelling viewing. A new pit complex was built after the massive accident on the front straight in 1955, but this was still a time when crews prepped for the race on roads that were open to the public. Hawthorne's lap includes maneuvers to avoid bicyclists and cars, and gems like letting us know that doing 185 miles per hour down the Mulsanne Straight was where you could "relax a little, recover your energy." Watch him work it like the men of old in the video below.
