Dauntless (odd fire) V6 T-14 three
speed transmission with the Dana 18 transfer case Handmade
Stainless Steel Body The body is
believed to have been hand fabricated in the Philippines. This type of body
work was relatively common in the Philippines. The details are amazing! My understanding is that a few of these
bodies were imported and fitted to existing Jeeps back in the ‘70’s. It
seems that most all of these were probably scrapped due to the difficulty of
body repair and the attractive value of the scrap stainless. This could be one
of a remaining few and I doubt there are any in better condition. After several
internet searches I have yet to find any other Stainless bodied CJ5’s out
there. There are no dents or any other evidence of any body damage. This would
lead one to believe that this jeep did not see any hard off-roading in its
lifetime. The stainless has a brushed looking finished similar to a DeLorean
but it could be polished to a chrome like finish if desired. Many of the
accessories are also stainless; this includes the bumpers, roll bar, review
mirror, gas tank, dash board, tail gate, trailer hitch, can and tire rack, jerry
cans, etc. I was told by
the previous owner that the transmission has had a recent rebuild but it does
leak, and shifting into second can require a bit of double clutching. This is
not in need of immediate repair but may need attention at some point, parts are
available and inexpensive. The remainder
of the drivetrain and all other systems are working as they should. This jeep
runs and drives well. The odd fire engine runs very strong and has pleasingly
unique sound. Most all wear parts have been replaced, including the clutch,
brake shoes, all hoses and belts. The starter, distributer, Holly two barrel
carburetor, gauges, fuel pump, shocks are new or near new. Other than
the body a few deviations from stock have been made. They include the addition
of power steering, tilt column, Select-O disengaging front hubs, HEI
distributor, Skyjacker soft ride leaf springs, chrome long tube headers, and
late model replacement seats. These and items like the clear shift knobs give
it a very vintage 1970’s Vibe. This vehicle could be brought back to 100% stock
(other than the body!) with very little effort. This is a
rare, and possibly one and only, opportunity to own a truly unique vehicle like this. Clean
California title and registration in my name. I will be
happy to assist with arranging any shipping required. Thank you for
your interest. |

Consumer Reports digs Mazda3, disses Jeep Cherokee
Tue, 11 Feb 2014Consumer Reports has just rendered its verdict on two of the more important cars to launch this year - the Mazda3 and the Jeep Cherokee. Considering the value a "Recommended" rating carries with the public and the viciously competitive markets these two cars compete in, Consumer Reports' view could have some impact on their initial success.
For Mazda, that's a good thing. CR spoke quite highly of the Zoom-Zoom brand's compact sedan and hatch, testing both models, and citing the excellent fuel economy and snickety-snack manual shifter as high points. Downsides to the 3 included a ride that is agile but "nervous," a bit too much noise and a cramped back seat. Still, the 3 was good enough to earn its place in the ranks of the "Recommended."
The Jeep didn't fare quite so well, with CR calling the polarizing CUV "half-baked." Although both engines were tested, the magazine called the 2.4-liter four-pot underpowered and its nine-speed automatic unrefined and unresponsive. That's particularly damning, considering the 9AT's role in future Chrysler products, including the extremely important 200. Overall, the Cherokee missed out on the coveted "Recommended" rating.
YouTube tallies votes for this year's top five Super Bowl spots [w/video]
Tue, 19 Feb 2013When we asked you to tell us which of this year's 16 car-themed Super Bowl commercials you liked best, you chose the Farmer commercial from Chrysler Group, advertising the Ram trucks, over Audi's Prom commercial in second place. Turns out the voters in YouTube's Ad Blitz poll agreed, voting the same commercial to the number one spot from among the field commercials in every category.
From there, however, they went in a totally different direction. Budweiser's The Clydesdales spot came second, Samsung's The Next Big Thing took third. The Jeep Whole Again ad scored fourth in the YouTube poll, fifth in our poll of auto commercials, and the Hyundai Team spot got fifth from the YouTubers, but ninth in our poll.
The voting results don't match up with the viewing numbers, though - while Farmer has more than 13 million views, The Next Big Thing is well beyond 21 million. You can read the press release below and see all five spots, lined up for you, one more time.
Chrysler defies NHTSA, says it won't recall 2.7M Jeep Grand Cherokee, Liberty models
Wed, 05 Jun 2013Facing a possible recall totaling around 2.7 million of its most popular SUVs, Chrysler remains insistent that the 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty are safe vehicles. This comes on the heels of a recall request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for these two models due to fuel tanks mounted behind the rear axle, which could possibly be ruptured during severe rear-end collisions, leading to an increased risk of fire. In response to the allegations, Chrysler says that it does not agree with NHTSA nor does it plan on recalling either vehicle.
Chrysler said both SUVs "met and exceeded" the requirements for fuel-system integrity, and cooperated fully with NHTSA since the investigation was opened in 2010. While 15 deaths and 46 injuries have been reported from fires caused by rear-end collisions on these models, Chrysler is claiming that the vast majority of incidents cited by NHTSA were "high-energy crashes," including one where a stopped Grand Cherokee was rear-ended by a tractor trailer going 65 miles per hour.
The automaker wraps up by saying "NHTSA seems to be holding Chrysler Group to a new standard for fuel tank integrity that does not exist now and did not exist when the Jeep vehicles were manufactured." Scroll down for Chrysler's official response to NHTSA, but we're pretty sure this isn't the last we've heard on this issue.
