I bought this Scrambler two years ago from the land conservation company that I work for, so i have known this Jeep for over 20 years. It was used as a project supervisor's field vehicle on an average of 2 or 3 days a week. This Jeep originally came with a 4 cylinder. When the Conservancy bought it in 1991 from a local family the engine was upgraded with the factory new in the crate V6 it has today (The engine upgrade occurred at 39K on the odometer, so the overall milage on the chasis/body is 121K). The mechanic who did the installation still works with me today, he has kept all maintenance records since that time. When I bought the Jeep I painted it, removed the carpeting and coated the tub in Rhino liner. I installed the back seat with 3 seat belts, and generally just cleaned it up. I put new 30x9.5 trail diggers on it last fall, so there is still 90% meat on those tires. The Jeep starts every time and runs fantastic.  I am offering the jeep for sale because i'm moving/downsizing and loosing my garage space. The Jeep comes with a full Best Top soft top with doors (uninstalled, new in the box), two bikini tops, and two half doors.

All that good stuff said, here are the things that I haven't been able to fix or add:  there is a small 3 inch  crack in the right front fender by the headlight, it was my intention to replace the stock fenders with stainless aftermarkets. The speedometer needle bounces a little and doesn't hold steady, with that, the fuel gauge doesn't work and I think the sender is stuck in the tank. The dash board controls are needed, heater pull cable, blower control knob, act. see photos. The light pull switch knob is there and works fine.
There is a leak in one of the steering line hoses where they attach to the power steering reservoir so i have had to add steering fluid about every 100 miles. Thats about all i can think of. i never bought new fender flares, but there are several styles out there and the holes are still there for the stock style that i removed when i painted it.  There is very little rust, there was some bondo on the right rear fender area that i discovered during painting, seemed minor. The Jeep has a really nice custom box hitch under the custom rear bumper. The spare tire is great, and mounted on the tail gate, so i don't use the gate, never have removed the bolts that hold it in the up position.
Last but not least, I would like to do a cash sale. I do not have a pay pal account. I need good old american dollars at time of pick up. The Jeep will be in Wilmington, CA (Long Beach) so please do your homework if you intend to bid.  I would like to complete the sale within 3 days of the auction close. Please contact me with any questions, serious buyers only please!! This is a real deal CJ8, either you know what it is, or you don't! Thanks for your consideration.

NHTSA investigating power modules on Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans

Mon, 29 Sep 2014

The Center for Auto Safety is officially petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to begin scrutinizing alleged problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on about 24 Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans. The advocacy group claims that the part's failure can cause affected vehicles to stall or not start at all. NHTSA is still looking into the accusations and deciding whether a full investigation is actually warranted.
The CAS petition claims at least 70 TIPM failures, but according to NHTSA, six of the complaints are for models that don't have the modules. In 34 of the reported cases, the vehicles refused to start, and in 17 of them the engine stalled. There were also two allegations of smoke and one of a fire. However, none of these affected airbag deployment or resulted in a crash.
This petition isn't the first TIPM-related problem for Chrysler Group. A recent report in the New York Times alleged that it found 240 complaints potentially related to the issue on NHTSA's website alone. In September, the automaker also recalled 230,760 examples worldwide (188,723 in the US) of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango replace the fuel pump relay circuit inside of the TIPM-7 with one external to the unit. The original part could allegedly cause the models to stall without warning. Even earlier, the company also recalled about 80,000 examples of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro in 2007 to have the module reprogrammed.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

Jeep's Super 'Ute Is Fun Thrown In The Face Of Conventional Wisdom
Let's talk asses for a moment. What do they have to do with the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, you ask?
Well, we're here to tell you that this SRT can haul some. Lots of them, as a matter of fact: Jeep has increased the towing capacity of its most powerful SUV to 7,200 pounds. Assuming the average donkey weighs about 400 pounds, the Grand Cherokee SRT can haul ass to the tune of 18 burros, give or take a covered trailer or so, which is significantly more than it could in previous years. In 2013, the machine could manage 5,000 pounds, while the first generation was rated at just 3,500. The increase is mostly attributable to a new eight-speed automatic transmission and beefier rear axle, and it's a welcome update for those who'd like to use their SUV as, well, an SUV with an emphasis on utility.

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT gets power increase, minor tweaks for 2015

Tue, 02 Sep 2014

As a brand within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, SRT may have an uncertain future, but it's pumping out some seriously mean machines anyway. The supercharged Hellcat V8 may be gobbling up most of the headlines with its 707 horsepower, but even the Grand Cherokee SRT is getting some small updates for the 2015 model year.
Most importantly for many enthusiasts, the Grand Cherokee SRT is getting a slight power bump. Don't expect the 700+ hp from the Hellcat, but this SUV sees a modest 5-hp and 5-pound-feet of torque improvement to bring output to 475 hp and 470 lb-ft for its 6.4-liter V8 with an eight-speed automatic. The minor change doesn't change the sprint to 60 miles per hour, clocking in at the same 4.8 seconds, or the tow rating at 7,200 pounds. Still, more grunt is never a bad idea.
Another new addition is the Active Noise Canceling system as a standard feature for this powerful SUV. It adds four microphones around the vehicle and uses the stereo system to nullify extraneous sound. However, Jeep claims that the meaty exhaust note from the V8 still gets through into the cabin for driver enjoyment.
