1983 Jeep Cj8 Scrambler on 2040-cars

For sale is a 1983 Jeep CJ8 Scramber, it was originally purchased from Davenport Motors Inc.  in Elizabeth City North Carolina.  It changed hands in 1987 according to the title, and spent the rest of its life in Bena Virginia. I believe it is mostly original, accept for a new re-manufactured engine that it received in the early 90's.  It has a 258 Inline 6 cylinder engine, T-176 4spd transmission, and a Dana 300 transfer case.  The front axle is a Dana 30 and the rear axle is a Model 20, both wide track.  When I purchased it, I removed the rusted windshield frame, fuel tank and tail gate.  I have a YJ windshield frame to replace the old, and a newer tailgate.  I also replace the fuel tank with a new one along with new fuel lines and recovered the front seats with military canvas.   The rear differential cover has ring gear teeth marks from some type of failure in the past, but it has been repaired.  I have the cover off right now to replace the fluid, and I also have new axle seals.  I have the front diff cover off as well.  I also have a new radiator and shocks that needs to be installed.  With these parts installed, it is a good running, driving jeep. It does have some rust, the rocker panels are the worst of it.  There are rust holes in the passenger floor board corner, and there is rust at the very rear, center of the tub and a 308 caliber exit wound in the passenger kick panel.  I have already sold the top, doors and bulkhead.  This is somewhat of a project, but it is a solid jeep.  The windshield glass will need to be switched from the old to the new windshield, and it will need a set of mirrors.  I sand blasted and painted the wheels, and have a great set of Jeepster hub caps that fit.  Vin# 1CJJM88EXDT021019 Let me know if you have any questions, I will be glad to answer or add pictures.  Jeep is also for sale locally.  Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping cost.  Thank you

Jeep going bigger with new Grand Wagoneer, smaller with sub-Renegade?

The headlines are still rolling in for the new Renegade that Jeep unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last week, but already reports are surfacing, citing sources within the company, about what Chrysler's iconic off-road brand will do next.
Speaking with Auto Express (whose reports we tend to take with a grain of salt or two), Jeep chief Mike Manley suggested that two courses of action are currently under consideration at Auburn Hills to develop two very different new models - one smaller and one larger than anything Jeep currently makes.
One plan would be to make an SUV or crossover even smaller than the new Renegade, although it isn't immediately clear what platform it would take. The Renegade (pictured above in Trailhawk spec) will be built in Italy alongside Fiat's upcoming 500X, but uses a heavily modified platform. We figure the smaller model, if approved, could base itself on the new Fiat Panda Cross.

Chrysler axes old V6s, goes all-Pentastar

Old technology has a way of lingering on, particularly at Chrysler headquarters in Auburn Hills. So while the Pentastar V6 has replaced the older engine architecture in just about every application, it still soldiered on in some export markets. But the introduction of a new 3.0-liter Pentastar V6, produced in Michigan and meant only for the Chinese market, has put the final nail in the old engine's coffin.
Fitted into the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler just introduced to China at the Chengdu Motor Show, the downsized six uses the same architecture as the larger 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. But because of its 2,997cc capacity, it can be exported to China without the increased duty the 3.6-liter or even 3.2-liter Pentastar engines would incur. The 3.0-liter V6 develops 230 horsepower at 6,350 rpm and 210 pound-feet at 4,400 rpm.
Admittedly, it's unlikely, but even though the engine was said to be created solely to undercut tax thresholds in China and Europe, the 3.0-liter Pentastar has recently surfaced in rumors of an application here: as the boosted heart of a potential Cherokee SRT with anywhere from 375 to 410 hp.

In our First Drive article on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee we said, "our informal and thoroughly unscientific opinion is they're going to sell tons of them. Why? Because it is very good." So far, it appears the public concurs. Of course, it's very early - the new compact utility has logged just one month of confirmed sales, but Larry Vellequette at Automotive News says dealers have told him that the second month of sales will be even better, a message that mirrors what we've heard from company execs.
In its first, severely truncated month on sale, the Cherokee sold 579 units. With all of November to play with, though, dealers moved 10,169 of them - compared to 11,753 Wranglers and 14,798 Grand Cherokees. That helped propel Jeep to a 30-percent year-on-year improvement for the month, Chrysler Group to a 16-percent improvement and the group's 44th consecutive month of sales growth, exceeding analyst expectations in posting its best November numbers since 2007.
If it can just keep replicating the its first month of sales, the finalist in North American Truck of the Year voting will smoke the trade done by the outgoing Liberty, which didn't break 7,900 units in a month in the last four years of its life (and normally didn't get close to even that). In March this year, Chrysler said it wants to build 250,000 Cherokees in its Toledo assembly plant for global sales. It's early yet, but with second-month sales quoted as being as "strong as death," the bookies might be resetting the odds.
