Year:1900 Mileage:100000

Essex, Connecticut, United States

Offered for your consideration is a 1986 Rolling Chassis which has been painstakingly restored for my own Jeep CJ7 project which I haven't managed to complete. The frame and axles were completely stripped by a combination of sandblasting and wire wheel. Once stripped of all paint and corrosion, the body mounting brackets were all weld reinforced with large flat steel washers. A new rear cross member was installed.  The remainder of the frame was in excellent condition. When the welding was completed and all welds were ground smooth, I carefully sanded all surfaces with a fine grit to prepare a smooth base for a quality paint job.  The frame and axles were protected with POR-15 and then chassis coat black. Both finishes were sprayed on by a professional in a local body shop. Shock towers were removed, refinished and replaced.

The axles are stock Jeep Dana 30 and AMC 20 and are fitted with new seals, new bearings, new calipers, new cylinders, new rotors front, new Drums rear, new stainless front rotor dust covers, all new brake hardware components, pads, speed bleeders, etc. New Russell stainless braided brake lines. All new stainless pre-bent brake and fuel lines.
Brand new Mickey Thompson MTZ Radials 33 in x 12.5 in mounted on new American Racing Turbo Style polished aluminum rims. (Tires retail for $250.00 ea, Rims $125.00ea)
New Black Diamond Suspension 3.5 inch lift springs mounted with a $470.00 Quadratec brand Wrangler Leaf Spring Conversion with upgraded longer and wider Wrangler springs perched upon heavy duty spring plates with integral skidplates and all heavy duty bracketry.

CJ Frame has a new M.O.R.E. Mountain Off Road Equipment front spring reversal kit installed with properly welded pivots as well as fully greaseable M.O.R.E. heavy duty shackles. Total suspension lift is 4.5 inches.
All new Rough Country Shocks and steering stabilizer.
All the work is done. Ready to have the engine and transmission installed.

The new parts installed on this chassis add up to $4300.00 not including the frame itself, the original axles, or the numerous man hours invested in this project. This is an incredible opportunity for someone interested in completing a restoration project. The most difficult part of the job has already been completed for you. The fuel tank skid plate sitting in the frame has already been sold and is not included in this listing. Likewise, I have included two photos of my tub for information only. It is not included in this listing. Please try to excuse all of the dust, shadows and reflections in the photos. This chassis is actually much nicer than it appears in the pictures.

I also have many other new parts available as well as a fully restored and painted Wrangler tub, new painted fenders, new painted hood, BestTop Supertop, BestTop Seats, Borla Stainless Header and Cat Back Exhaust, AGR Super Pump and Super Box2, Kentrol Stainless, etc. Let me know your needs.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.  Thanks, Rich 860-767-0729

Finding surfing spots in the UK is tough work, even in a Jeep

Sun, 06 Jul 2014

You truly have to love surfing to practice the sport in the United Kingdom. The area isn't exactly teeming with warm beaches full of sunbathers, and absolutely no easy spots to find big waves. To be a UK surfer, you need to be a fearless adventurer, not to mention quite lucky. And driving a Jeep might help, too.
Surfers Oli Adams and Micah Lester are traveling around the British Isles in a Jeep Wrangler Overland trying to find the best surf spots out there. These guys don't fit the laid-back surfer stereotype, but that's because finding waves in the UK is hard work. They say that the waves at some of these spots only exist for about three hours every year when the current and winds are just right.
To find these surf spots, the Jeep's offroad capabilities are paramount. In some areas, as you'll see in the video, there isn't even a beach, just jagged rocks. It would be like the movie Endless Summer, that is, if it could start snowing at any moment. These guys are clearly dedicated to their sport.

Jeep reveals annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari concepts

Wed, 20 Mar 2013

Jeep has unveiled its annual spate of concepts before the Easter Jeep Safari. Those start with the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept (below left), complete with the company's EcoDiesel V6 engine. Designers threw in a set of 35-inch Mickey Thompson tires wrapped around 17-inch Rubicon wheels, and a set of custom fender flares help keep all that rubber under wraps.
Meanwhile, the Wrangler Mopar Recon (below right) packs a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 good for 470 horsepower. All that grunt gets to the ground via a five-speed automatic transmission and a set of a Dana 60 axles frond and rear with 4.10 gears. The Recon also makes use of a 4.5-inch prototype long-arm kit and a set of prototype eight-lug bead lock wheels.
The Wrangler Stitch (below left) builds on the momentum of the Wrangler Pork Chop Concept. Engineers once again set out to strike as much weight as possible from the vehicle, and actually managed to trim the curb weight down to 3,000 pounds. That effort has given the machine the same power to weight ratio as the Grand Cherokee SRT8. Plenty of carbon fiber, door deletes and a chrome moly roll cage all help trim those pounds, and a set of DanyTrac Pro Rock 44 axles with 4.88 gears and ARB lockers front and rear let this machine scramble over whatever is in its path.

Airbag fault on 1M recalled Jeeps getting second look from NHTSA [UPDATE]

Mon, 02 Jun 2014

UPDATE: Here is the statement we received from Chrysler regarding NHTSA's query: "Chrysler Group LLC advised the National Highway Traffic Administration of the six reports and, in accordance with the Company's long-standing practice, is cooperating fully with the resulting investigation. Customer safety is paramount at Chrysler Group. Customers who are concerned may call 1-800-853-1403."
It appears that Jeep's repairs for nearly one million Grand Cherokees from 2002-2004 and Liberty models from 2002-2003 might not be over yet. The vehicles were first recalled in November 2012 because the front airbags could suddenly deploy without being in an accident. Now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a recall query into them because of reports of inadvertent activation on some already corrected vehicles.
The original problem affected over 919,000 vehicles worldwide, including 744,822 in the US, and was caused by a degrading circuit in the wires that control the airbags. In some cases the airbag warning light would come on just before the premature activation, but in other cases it would just happen. The automaker installed an "in-line jumper harness with an integrated electrical filter" meant to eliminate the power spikes believed to be the cause.
