Not available in the domestic civil market, the CJ-10 was a 1/2- or 3/4-ton Jeep with square headlights (such as those found in the later Wrangler) and a nine-slot grille unusual. They are often seen in CJ10 to were locked in the factory low range and only fender mounted headlamps featured. The CJ-10A, also known as Flightline Tow Tractor, was a reliable hitch used for towing planes on runways around the world. The U.S. Air Force bought most of the CJ-10As. The CJ-10A was produced from 1984-1986. There are several forums where people have easily turned these into four drive by unlocking the transfer case and adding a front drive shaft to the Dana 44 front axle. Some of these short-lived Jeeps blurred the line between classic SWB CJs (Junior Jeeps)and the Full-Size Jeeps (Senior Jeeps). 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets surprisingly comprehensive update, new diesel power
Mon, 14 Jan 2013Traditionally, automotive journalists can be heard muttering something to the effect of "Geeze, it's about time!" whenever a vehicle's midcycle refresh is revealed. As we routinely see and drive new models many months before the public even claps eyes on them in showrooms - and then go on to tweeze apart their minutia in our daily writings - perhaps some impatience is to be expected. With so much exposure to a given vehicle, it's fair to say we tire of most cars and trucks far more quickly than the average consumer.
The alterations are handsome, if not subtle touches from the "If It Ain't Broke" school of design.
Which is why we're pleased to say "Oh, is it time for that already?" when it comes to the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The current WK2 Grand Cherokee hit the market in 2011 and climbed its way into our hearts with its rugged good looks, go-anywhere capability and surprising refinement. We're not yet tired of its appearance or performance, but even so, we're very glad to see Chrysler giving its flagship Jeep some attention, including a much-anticipated diesel powertrain option and some other economy-minded measures.
Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango to lose color options temporarily
Wed, 19 Nov 2014In the market for a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Durango? Well, if you fancy a more expressive color for your new SUV, you'd better get your order in, or plan on waiting until well into 2015.
The SUVs will be limited to just four monochromatic shades - black, white, silver and gray - until at least February, thanks to an upgrade to the paint shop at the two vehicles' Jefferson North factory. For the Grand Cherokee, that means it's losing more than half its color palette while the Durango is dropping two-thirds of its color catalog.
The loss of colors is inconvenient, but the upgrade will have a slightly bigger effect on the overall supply of SUVs, as Chrysler will need to end its relentless build pace at the factory for a three-week shutdown starting on December 22. The good news for fans of the SUVs is that once the work is completed, we should see a gradual expansion of the color palettes for both the Durango and Grand Cherokee, beyond even what's offered now.
